You would have less hassle and a better system by upgrading your boats electrical energy system.
@philelliott5327

For less money you could have an upgraded solar system and lithium battery set up installed that would out perform it by a mile and add value and practically to a boat. It does have a lot of flashing lights and a reassuringly high price tag so people will still buy it.

True, but the portability is a big plus. Also this can be charged in the car and home if the sunshine isnt constant.

Can't imagine lugging it home to charge it, plus I don't have a house, or a car. I live on a boat.😂 The tiny alternator on modern cars would take many hours of driving to charge this up, so hardly a green alternative. The reality is if you live on a boat full time you use a minimum of power and buy the best solar set up. Engine heats the water as you cruise and charges the batteries as a byproduct of cruising, nearest thing to free energy you will ever get.

Might be a useful power store, but that's all it is, a store. Once it's empty, you are back to having to run the engine to charge it. Or find some shore power. So it's still a zero sum game. Narrow boats would be better with a large alternator on the engine that is matched the engine's most efficient power output. So many kW worth. Then charge lithium batteries at a high rate. Still using the main engine as the primary power source, but in a fuel efficient way and for the shortest possible time. Though narrow boat technology is mostly 50years behind the curve. So just using a quiet honda suitcase generator to charge is probably the more accessible route.

Nice ad, but it’s not doing anything which adding more batteries to your battery bank and adding another solar panel wouldn’t achieve at much lower cost and which would also save the inconvenience of plugging appliances into a separate device which is also taking up space. They have their uses, we have three Jackery equivalents at work, which are great for temporary power in the middle of nowhere, but using one as an alternative to your boats batteries/inverter just says your boat’s power system needs sorting. In that scenario, it’s just a sticking plaster, not a solution.

Have you got a power bank with a great solar set up? If yes you’ve tried it, awesome. Good to try something and decide you don’t like it 👍 if no, then assumptions are foolish because you limit yourself to a possible win in life. But hey, we’re all doing our best with the resources we have. No judgements from me
@petesmith2234
@petesmith2234 7 күн бұрын
They are a great product, don’t get me wrong. We have a number of similar units at work which we use for testing temporary CCTV systems and other security equipment at outdoor events long before the generators for the more remote areas are hired in and they’re absolutely brilliant. We did have a solar kit on the first one we bought, but it wouldn’t really power anything of substance on a continuous basis and took ages to charge from dead. Inevitably it got left unattended to charge and the panels were stolen. Unless you’re going to go to all the faff of bringing them in overnight or when you leave the boat, you’ll have the same problem. You could fix them down, but then you may as well just get another panel for the existing system and fix that down. They are good units in the right application. I was just making the point that if I had the money to buy one, I’d spend it on upgrading the existing system instead.

@@petesmith2234Yeah but this system is flexible, I've seen her use it off boat for a few things. I've seen another chap in a camper spend thousands on his system and said the power station did all he'd done, with all the time and effort, with no hassle at all.

It is worth pointing out, lifepo4 batties suffer damage if used below 5 deg, not much good on canal boat in the winter
@andrewnorris5415
@andrewnorris5415 Күн бұрын
Can use them between -20°C to 60°C and charge them between 5°C-45°C. Inside the boat where they are stored, it's going to be above 5C when charge them! This batteries also have a massive cycle life, between 2500-3500 cycles, which is amazing. Should last forever. I am pretty sure this unit has a temp sensor to protect the battery from any damage, but like I said, it's unlikely. Maybe if you are out for a while and it gets cold in the boat. But in general use it will work great.

I think it takes about half of the capacity of a hefty 12 volt 200 amp hour battery to heat enough water from cold for a 3 minute shower give or take.

Im loving the way a lot of these battery units use a nonsensical value for their capacity hence removing any ability to compare them to actual real values of power and capacity in any relatable form A 4,812.8Wh battery? Really? So how much is that in ahr ? 3? 7? 2000? No one knows... its totally meaningless but sounds good...
@philallen7626
@philallen7626 8 күн бұрын
Watts = Volts x Amps. So 4812Wh is 401Ah at 12V or 200.5Ah at 24V, or 20.9Ah at 230V.

Not really very factual you could achieve the same with extra Lithium battery and solar panel. As you say the sun is getting lower so how do you intend to charge the overrated power station. You will of course use carbon fuels. But then again it was given free hence the glowing review.

I would add that there are still an awful lot of boaters out there with mixes of batteries. Using a complete system like the one shown should enable units to be changed out as required without adverse effect. Be mindful that older batteries can display different discharge characteristics etc. One charge of the engine to bring the batteries on power will enable lots of different loads and items to be run for quite a while before the next charge. No more turning the engine on and off willy nilley. This will reduce MTBB considerablely and save a small amount of fuel also.
