I have brainstormed some interesting ideas for instruments that would be interesting to watch using magnetic principles. I have to give this gentlemen props for actually going through with it. That costs quite a bit of money and time!

I imagine this would have much more stability if you had angled the magnets slightly inwards at about 2 or 3 degrees, and have 4 or 8 smaller magnets interweaving the bottom, faced outwards for rotational stability. Might try this on small scale sometime.

Dude, Super cool, but maybe check out some basic woodworking vids, and go a bit more pro? lol, fun stuff!!! I have also been experimenting with Neodymium magnets lately. A "favorite" aspect of using high strength, is how dangerous they are. I am accustomed to working with very dangerous tools (welders, ironworkers, lathes, all sorts of saws, etc.), but the magnets are an entirely different beast. I've given myself a few bad pinches, but no ER visits so far! lol. I am thinking about a crazy-ish project to float my entire 2 person sauna on a magnetic platform, maybe using plexiglass as parts of the base, so the air gap can be seen. Keep up the wacky projects!!

This idea is very interesting to me! I have been considering the same thing for a one person a homemade sauna inside a 3‘ x 6 1/2‘ x 8’T room. In my research I have discovered that powerful magnets such as these lose their magnetic attraction/repulsion at around 80°C. 😳

@@anttumurikka8728" round thick magnets" like donut shaped magnets with a hole in the center, sure. Just stick a shaft through the center to keep them aligned. How long last? No idea. But it will depend on the type of magnet, and possibly how much heat and reverse magnetic field they're exposed too.

A cool test would be to see how much weight it takes to get the top and bottom magnets to lightly touch. By graphing weight on the platform versus the distance between magnets, you could easily get some good info on magnet force that you could use in building future projects with those magnets. Cool video...I wanted to build the same thing awhile back. By the way, how much did the magnets cost?

I have noticed your build and tried it with plates and magnets along with several types of drones. The drones are mounted on these plates with magnets and the magnets makes it hover . The drone is flying by the plates and magnets not by propellers. Currently building the generator to power all the M drones internal and external power.

I think it would just “slide off” and try to flip and snap together sending whatever platform right into the ground on it’s edge. Imagine two magnets connected with a string. You have to stabilize them so that they can only face each other in a very specific way.

booty pirates, cancels weight in that it pushed you up with the same force you push down, but only once you have forced two magnets ever closer that their increased magnetic field strengths are capable of supplying the repulsive force to counter the force of gravity on the mass that is you.

I think you should up the magnets strength with copper wire around the magnets or five times the same magnets . I.e. Five magnets as one magnet on all fore ends where you placed your fore magnets at .. you should be then able to lift your self much much much higher in mid air ..

Cyclo TeChTwIsTeR spring maybe, but not shock absorber. Many shock absorbers have real springs for supporting weight, while using something else to disipate the energy in the shock. As for how to absorb a shock, one might emply active control of the magnetic fields through weakening or strengthening electromagnet's magnetic field so that rapid dispalacement of position in the lower magnets do not cause rapid changes to the magnetic repulusion supported platform.

Cyclo TeChTwIsTeR, as for practical. No it would not be. It would require massive unsprung weight. Why is that a problem some might ask. Consider a car, as it drives down the road and hits a bump it jimps and the spring quickly pushes the tire back to the ground. If the mass of the tire is 100 times more, it will take 100 times longer to push it back down with the same spring. Ir one could use a spring that is 100 times stronger, but that would also push the rest of the car up as the spring pushes the tire back down. Unsprung weight, is all weight not supported by the springs and works against shock absorbing.

I am currently doing a similar design for a physics project at my school. For the past month I've been trying to figure out how to stop the top from turning and causing the magnets to collide. No matter what I do, they continue to collide. I've tried putting the tension cables in different positions but nothing works. The second I apply force downwards, the top part turns and falls out of the magnetic field. My magnets are 2 × 2 × 1/2 inches polarized through the thickness. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. P.S. I only have 2 days to figure this out.

Bryan Milam, considering the springy feeling, it might have feeling of instability which could cause one to unconsciously react. Notice the jittery movement at 5:02 . You'll have to focus on relaxing your natural tendency to react. The more stability built in, the less unstable it will feel. So, if focusing on letting go is meditation, then yeah, it could be a new way to meditate.
