Never had a problem receiving with the 1899T. Transmitting is another matter, however.

Respectfully, the 1899t was designed to use the 817 as part of its ground plane, so you wouldn’t be able to trust the numbers the manual gives you. You’re right to say it’s a seriously compromised compromise antenna, and 5 watts leaves one with little to no signal to waste!

Hello. I am just wondering what are you currently using on the 705 as a portable antenna? Thanks
@thehamjazz2 жыл бұрын
Hey buddy thanks for your comment. I usually you the 705 at home qth as ft8 rig and when I’m out testing antennas and don’t want to bring a battery, there is no better rig than the 705. Having said that, if I did go out and activate with the 705, I would use 2 x 16ft wires that I have cut for 20-17-15-10 meters and erect it in an “L” configuration to a binary connector at the base straight into the radio. No coax needed. Would you like more information on that set up? Cheers mate and thanks again. Simon VA7BIX

@@thehamjazz I am new to the HF field. I am just wondering do you need a tuner for your set up?
@thehamjazz2 жыл бұрын
@@tangjinbh4fdj970 that my friend is a great question. GENERALLY - I try and make all of my antennas for portable operations resonant. Do you own a HF radio? if so, which one? Cheers mate

@@tangjinbh4fdj970 fantastic radio buddy so with the 705, definitely no tuner. So I use either the L shaped wire, which is resonant on 20-10 and also use it with the PREDator antenna. I’ll do a video on the wire antenna in the new year when it warms up a bit haha. Cheers mate!

I couldn't get my 1899T to work either. Just nothing!
@thehamjazz2 жыл бұрын
Hey Bill, it's a pretty useless antenna. However, it does receive well which is something. I did get it somewhat resonant for 20 meters, with a 12 foot counterpoise. It might actually be a fun antenna to use for FT8. Oh wow that's an idea, hmmmm hahahaha. Good luck with the 1899 Bill - miracles can happen hihi.

@@thehamjazz I struggled but finally got the 1899T to work. About 170 contacts on FT8 (80, 40 and 17 meters only).
