This generation of Octavia is one of the best cars ever. Modern, but not too modern. Affordable but doesn't feel cheap. Handles nicely but doesn't break your back. Faster than most cars on the road with a simple tune. Takes 5 people and all their luggage, wagon or not. The only car I actually miss.

I had a 66 plate race blue VRS and absolutely loved it. Absolute joy to own. 4 years of faultless motoring, practical, rapid, decent looking and appreciated by those who know cars. The only way it could have been improved was if it had the Golf R drivetrain. It would have been an absolute weapon with 4x4 and 300bhp.

I drive a BMW 335D from 2017, F30 variant. 313 bhp and 4 wheel drive, goes like stink off the line and constantly puts the power down. The only real downside is that it isn't as confidence inspiring in the corners as it's like steering a barge into a bend. I had a 1 litre Seat Ibiza courtesy car a few years back, that was a pocket rocket and for 1 litre was still pretty nippy, I had 100% confidence in that and was flinging it into corners knowing it would hold the road. I find the smaller and narrower the car the better they handle in corners.

Brilliant car, Matt, you can't go wrong with a Škoda, they are always looked after by a caring owner who didn't buy it to show off. Škoda owners are mainly sensible, honest folk. Also, really practical (load liner-how many Audi drivers go that route?). Serviced regularly, no surprise. What a bargain machine. Looks great. This video made me smile. Well done.

I have a 2020 Octavia Vrs challenge. I absolutely love it. It does everything and I've given it some love with a new exhaust and a stage 1 tune. Incredible.

I've got the same vrs and enquired about stage 1, what tuner did you use and what bhp/torque . ...I was put off by insurance, who you recommend?

I used a company called Superchips. The bhp went to 300 and torque to 441. I added this to my insurance and pay an extra £12 a month. That includes the insurance company knowing about the milltek exhaust and k&n air filter. Make sure you get the DSG tune as well if you go with Superchips. It's an add on but makes all the difference as it maps the gearbox with the extra power and torque. Hope that helps ​@@stevenvater2681

I had a Tdi VRS estate from new (2017) to 3 years old, never missed a beat in the 55k miles I had it for, when I advertised it for sale it went on day 1 and I could have sold half a dozen, a lot of people know they are great cars and brilliant value for money.

I have an identical one except the TDI engine, manual gearbox and only 69k miles on the clock. Had it 9 years and still have no intention of getting rid of it. Best car I have ever owned. Quick, practical, spacious, good handling and a rare car. Just did a 2200 mile road trip through France and Spain in it this summer and it was perfect for it.

I have had my 2019 Vrs 245 Estate for 18 months and have no plans to change it. Mapped to just under 300BHP and lowered on Eibach Pro springs it really does drive well and is decently quick. It fits the whole family plus the dog in as well as all the gubbins they bring with them and will still do 45MPG on a run. Great car.

@@danpaul4975 I serve in a police service which does still use white shirts, unlike most, we used to use the Skoda Octavia VRS as our "area cars" driven by the advanced drivers, but they were done away with long ago and replaced with BMW 5 series estates or BMW X5's, those in turn are now being replaced by Volvo V90's and Volvo XC90's.

I had a 14 plate Octavia vrs as well and it’s one of my biggest regrets getting rid of it. Hunted for months to get the right one (race blue, black pack, low mileage) and wish I’d kept it. I’m with you on the wheels, generally not a fan of black wheels but some cars (this included) suit it. Keep up the good work 👌🏻

I have the petrol 230bhp face lifted VRS Octavia, and hands down, it is one of the best cars I have owned for smiles per mile. I also had this shape in a 2.0tdi SEL as a company car a few years back. I clocked up 134k in that one lol. They really are very good cars. 👍 Keep up the great work Matt.

Almost bought one when my 406 estate got written off, it was a toss up between the Octavia estate or the 508sw, i opted for the 508 as my 406 had over 200,000 miles on it and still pulled like a train, it was wrote off due a side impact from another car as i turned into the MOT station, it still passed with no advisories, insurance wrote it off giving me £700 i think, so opted for another Pugrat, and so far so good, my 2013 is still passing MOT's with only the occassional advisory, which i always have them do. Love these vids, love the honesty.

If it’s a 2.0l petrol make sure you check the WATER PUMP 😮 We had a new engine at 40k due to slow water pump failure. Very very very good car 🚗

I changed my car earlier this year as I needed a four-door for family reasons. Ended up getting an Octavia VRS saloon from a main dealer. It was an ex-demonstrator with just 1,500 on the clock and got over 7K off new list price. Very happy with it, it’s not perfect- would have liked sharper brakes for a car that’s quite nippy, but on the whole, it’s a great car.

I agree, I have a mk4 VRs 245, and I always felt the brakes were a little lacklustre. I have often felt the need to put some better brakes, better tyres and lower it by a a few mm to give it that slightly more aggressive stance

Owned a tdi vrs for 5 years now ,an absolutely brilliant estate with plenty of poke when you need it.apart from regular servicing it has been inexpensive to run I would recommend getting one to anyone who needs a quick capacious vehicle that’s not going to break the bank.I agree with Matt that you would not believe it was a 10 year old car.

The 7 speed DSG they used in the 1.4 Octavia ,Yeti's & Fabia DQ200 was absolutely TERRIBLE! Recalls on mechatonics, VAG fix was to just have the box change to second instantly so pulling out at busy junctions was terrifying not knowing what gear the car fancied using. Google DQ200 DSG issues and you can find pages of people with issues

I noticed a tiny detail. You spent money on refurbishing the wheels, but you kept the old hub centres. It might have been the light, or dirt, but it did look like you'd not changed them! I'm always amazed at how much prep you do on a car and if I was in the market for one, I'd definitely look at your stock.

This video had my undivided attention from the start, due to the mention of my home city, and most importantly, the vehicle featured in it. I bought a new Fabia SE in 2015, the year after this gorgeous Octavia vRS was made. I remember drooling over one in my local Škoda retailers showroom, whilst there to collect my Fabia. I always liked the shape of this era of Octavia, this one looks beautiful, finished in candy white, the later ones look great in moon white too. If I had been looking for an Octavia this would have been on my shortlist. The only problem for me would be the wheels, I understand why you had them refinished in gloss black, but being a hopeless purist, I like everything factory original. Glad you made a profit on this one Matt, I didn’t think you’d have any mechanical issues, Škoda reliability is legendary❤.

Always loved the Octavia vRS. I've actually owned 4 of them over the years, and they've all been brilliant at pretty much everything I've asked them to do! In my opinion, the Octavia vRS is the best value for money car available in the UK. Nothing else does everything the vRS does for the money. 👍

Really good cars these MK3 Octavia's. VRS spec is an awesome car, 2.0 tsi will easily achieve 40mpg on a run and beat most things from the lights too. Top all-rounder .

I have a stage 2 2014 VRS TSI, love this car! It's a absolute blast and people don't expect it to be so rapid 😂 reliable affordable and practical cars, what more would you want. Only real weak point is the waterpump and the cooling system, they do tend to fail sometimes, it's a VW group issue those bad waterpumps.

Our youngest daughter had a Skoda Fabia Drive (French model), similar to, but a bit higher spec than the Colour Edition in the UK. It was silver, with black roof, wheels and trim. The contrast was superb and a great car. I think the black wheels would look good with the car, better if the roof was black too.

I leased an Octavia SEL 1.5L DSG estate during lockdown. It was a 2019 end of line model that must’ve been stockpiled before the factory shut down to retool for the new model. The lease was extended from 3 to 4 years and it covered almost 70K happy reliable miles. It was an absolute bargain and some of the best motoring that could be had for the money!!

One of the very best all round cars ever to grace UK roads in my opinion is the Skoda VRS - either estate or hatchback, petrol or diesel. I've owned 3, one of which was a 2009 Limited Edition VRS model - tremendous car. Boy was I sad to see that go. Fun, fast, frugal, cheap to insure, decent looking, comfortable, reliable, practical - what's not to like? The wife's going to go mad as I'm tempted to buy another Octavia VRS Matt - this time a petrol white estate ......is it sold???

I absolutely love my 245vrs. Imo its an unbeatable combination , mine is top spec with vaq diff , upgrade entertainment , brakes, headlights, wheels and seats . Best car on the road for the money.

I have a diesel version of this car 2017 with now over 140k miles… been an amazing car to do everything. Only thing I changed was the wheels. 19” rims were noisy and after two broken wheels due to potholes in Scotland I switched to 17” rims instead. Would defo get another

I don't have a Skoda Octavia VRS, but I do own a 72reg White Dacia Duster with black alloy wheels, I think it looks smart, I've driven over the Snake Pass many times, such a great road.

I must be the exception to the rule, a year ago I bought a 69 reg VRS 245 with 19k miles. Over the year I owned it, it ended up in the garage 9 times, having a new timing chain fitted at the dealer, thermostat and water pump leaking, intermittent EML, camshaft adjusters. Great car when it was working, but caused me way too much headache 😂
