How can bonsais survive if there is no nutrients in the soil because you are using rocks?

Great question👍 we add nutrients to the water or put on top of the soil.

So far i have not given it any nutrients. All the energy it needs is in the seed. Next year i will start giving it.

For my outdoor trees I add small amounts of nutrients to the water every time I water the plants during the growing season. But for my indoor trees i give them all year around every time I water. They are outside during summer and indoor under growlight during winter.

Hej! I had a question for you, did you trim back the sproutling? It is the bushiest one I've seen! I have a long skinny one about 15-16 cm in height now starting to sprout leaves and looking for info on when and how to trim it back to make it bushier. Yours is so tiny and so bushy, did it just grow that way or did you trim it earlier? Everything seems to recommend at around 16 cm, I am so scared to cut it in case it dies...

@@TreeVibes Mine is getting some leaves lower down as it gets taller, so essentially when those grow I could probably cut back to those? Mine is just about 7-8 weeks old. I have watched them all--they are so helpful and I am excited to see how yours turns out. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, I appreciate it!

Thank you so much 😀👍 If you cut it back just think about leaving a bit of the steam for die back. If you cut to love and to close to the young leafs there is a possibility that the new buds will dry out. And don't forget to let me know how it worked out. why rocks instead of black earth?

Lava rocks or burnt clay is mostly used. And it's for better control of watering, better control of nutrients. And the most important part is air circulation around the roots.

Sorry don't know what you mean with pebble. But you need something that can hold moisture but also free draining.

Yes its a tropical tree so it doesn't drop it leaves. I have to bring it inside during the winter and put it under growlights

No I didn't , I pulled it up from the garden like this. It have to been broken of or dried and new side shoots developed

Usually I just eat a avocado and then press it down in the a pot close to me 😁 and it works. I have even tried using toothpicks and a glass of water. 👍
