I should make a video on this concept actually. Regular hollowpoints have a different lead density than full metal jackets. Turning a FMJ round into a HP round wont cause expansion, the bullet's lead and jacket are just designed to stay whole. You would need softer lead.

Also a good way to make your tub reusable for shooting is kine it with a garbage bag on the inside so if your round continues through and makes a whole to re seal the tub simoly swap a new bag in and fill it with water

being the ninja that i am bro ,let me give you an awesome tip , get you a regular size garbage can , fill all the way to the top with water . shoot from a few feet above can ,use a ladder or something , shoot directly in the middle !!!

Use a counter sink drill bit tmafter a small pilot whole and yes adding cuts will help it open up.
