Good for you. I’m in awe of you. I was married for 47 years, child free. My husband died five years ago. For me, it’s the trauma of grief. Not loneliness. Grief takes up most of my emotional space.

I pray for your season of grief to come to an end, for all the effects of this heavy trauma to be fully healed, and for joy, peace and enjoyment of life to overtake that space. And may you begin a season of beautiful and actually fun adventures. ❤️

Sending you love in relation to your grief. As an emotion grief is so debilitating. I cannot imagine losing a loved husband (I have experienced a divorce and there was still plenty of debilitating grief around that loss/change). But I did in the last 18 months unexpectedly lose my mother. My life stopped! I was unable to function and I did not expct the weight of the grief to debilitate me so much. It is slowly lifting and I do believe that time is the only thing that works with grief. Be gentle with yourself. I have found much healing in my (pretty neglected as a result of the grief) garden. My chickens and bees bring me joy every day and I continue to find something to be grateful over each day. That helps. I hope the burden of grief lifts for you soon. Sending loving and light thoughts.

@@lifelovelettuce Thank you for your loving message. Slowly, I’m learning how to integrate grief into my life and still finding moments of joy. I’m so sorry for the loss of your mother. And glad you are finding joy in your garden. You’ve been given a special gift. 🫶

Hey Jen, I'm a new subscriber (a few days). I appreciate this series. I started a KZbin channel on March 14, 2024. I am a 70-year-old widow (17 years a widow) with 3 grown children. I've enjoyed the scenery as you walk your dog and talk about your channel's analytics. I look forward to seeing your channel grow. I'm not lonely, and loneliness is not a problem. I enjoy my company. I live in my childhood home with family close by.

A fellow 1955er 🎉 A betrayal (2005) of a spouse I met at Church. Been single for 24 yrs. I don’t date, I would buy a gal a burger a beer. Chat while on a cruise and make friends and memories. But “NO” he and she play time. Other than that, I no longer trust. Relationship wise, I’m very damaged. 😂 But I do love being around people. Good luck little sister with the channel

I am single for the past year, lots of new responsibilities, taking care of the yard, the car, the finances, etc. I do travel with my daughter and family they pay for the accommodations. I pay for my flight and food. But it’s always in the US, my concern is being able to afford solo travel.

You should be so proud of yourself. Buying and maintaining a house by yourself is not easy. Congratulations. Great video. And by the way, unless one has a good marriage or relationship, having the wrong partner could be an absolute nightmare emotionally, physically and financially so celebrate your soleness. It's a good thing.

you should totally make a video about buying a house as a single woman in your 50s. it's atrocious that the system is set up like this...women get paid less, and then they make it harder for single people to buy a house on top of that.

You've inspired me to kick my KZbin channel back into action. I was becoming overwhelmed by the 'youngies' on KZbin and I'm so plesed to see us Get-Xers getting some airtime! I can relate to being a latch-key kid and all that entailed. Currently staring down the barrel of retirement--not single--but still looking for alternatives to the 9-5 grind. Thanks for putting yourself out there ♥ Gardening and 'homesteading' on a small patch of land is my thing. Re-establishing all those wonderful skills that were lost when mother's went out to work. I'm really enjoying 'slowing down' and taking a breath after all the years of hustle for someone else.

Subscribed! I am an always single boomer. I was a latch key kid because my divorced mother worked and my father not in the picture. I don’t think being single is a detriment To finances because I decided early on to focus on retirement and worked second jobs to save and invest. I was not a high earner and lived below my means by quite a bit which now that it is second nature is really just a blessing. I am content because I don’t have to impress anyone, and I have more savings than some, Cause remember the Jones’ need to impress their neighbors and that uses up their bucks. I don’t know why, but I very seldom feel lonely.

Late 20s here. Love your videos. Congratulations on buying your home! Singleness is complicated. Yes it makes things easier financially and you have a companion but if the person isn’t bringing me peace , I’m content with continuing to wait for the right person to partner with. Thank God I have a choice and thank God I don’t depend on anyone.

Solo after divorce isn’t about loneliness for me. It was about being in a financial position to escape the situation. Just like your redundancy situation divorce takes strategic planning so that those involved will survive financially. I do not mean taking advantage of the other. I mean planning for the change. First there is fear of the change, then realizing the necessity and lastly planning the separation. By that time the sentiment is over but doing the decent thing remains important.

Congratulations for the great stats on your latest video. You do have some good ideas about the various types of solo people. I am a formerly married solo and it did help me financially. In fact, I was only able to get the college degree after I was married. I was able to purchase my home when I was 40 also. Loneliness is a very complicated issue which would include personality types and how happy the marriage is.

I’m also silver but stopped being solo when I retired from a long academic career as a university professor to return to Canada to care for my elderly parents. So many women give up careers, time, and energy to care for their elderly parents. Wondering if caring for parents a factor in your life and if so how you cope.

I'm lucky so far in that both of my parents are mobile and active. They also live down the street from me, so I look in on them and they can call me if they need help with something. Having them relocate to be closer was a calculated move though. We're planning ahead.

4:05 it’s interesting to see the difference with people trying to “set you up with someone”. I worked in an office where some of the girls were obsessed with trying to find a man for me. Despite repeatedly saying I’m not interested!! Whereas another lady in the office who was divorced with two kids, no one ever once said anything to her about her love life or how she “shouldn’t be alone”. Literally nothing to her and endless pressure on me.

I was divorced when I bought my first house by myself at 28. The first one was at 23 right before I got married. When I divorced there wasn't really too much equity in that house yet but I wanted to move back closer to family. I've never really been lonely while single, Ive had a couple long term relationships over the last 25 years and I do things with friends- summer concerts, weekend trips or hiking etc. I didn't date when my daughter was young but I would go on dates when she was at my ex-husbands. There is always something going on in my area and I often will go places alone if its on a whim or I just don't feel like calling anyone.

As a divorcee, the drawback for me was both. We had to sell the house we owned in a short sale due to the economy at the time. So I walked away with nothing and had to start all over again at the age of 45. I never imagined I would be in that situation and it was very hard to deal with and very lonely.

I am in my early 40’s and separated and in the process of a divorce, long story…but I don’t feel lonely as I have 4 kids to raise , which actually makes me wish at times I had more alone time, as I enjoy the quiet. So I’m single, and in no rush to get hitched again. Might never happen and I’m fine with that too. Creating my own happiness with what I have available to me now and keep on dreaming and trying to work towards that becoming reality, one day at a time. I’m in BC as well, residing in the Central Okanagan. Vancouver Island is on my wish list though. One day…

I’ve been single but also started a family with co-parenting friends (a gay couple)I carried my own personal finances, together we carried child related finances. We lived in a 3 floor house we bought together. Tax people found this difficult: 2 families with 1 mortgage 😅After 6 years we moved to neighbouring houses which I pay for myself. Slowly Im paying of my mortgage so when I retire I’ll be having more financial freedom to go out and about. First trip will be a cruise (wanting to do that since the first time I watched “Love Boat” 😉)

Thought I'd contribute another 'take' on the 'divorced' status and a probable homeowner due to having been married. I married at 18, had a baby at 21 and left that marriage walking with an 18 month old, a guitar, suitcase & diaper bag. I worked, he didn't as he thought himself to be an up & coming guitar star - he was an excellent guitarist, but also did drugs. While at work, he sold my childhood violin, all my Moody Blues vinyls and the turquoise jewelry I had collected and allowed our car to be repossessed. I thought it was stolen, so I called the police, and they informed me of the horrible truth. So I left in the condition they now call 'homeless' or to make is sound less harsh, "unhoused" - I check the single box because I've been unmarried for so many decades. I'm happy now, and think my life experience/perspective/wisdom is going to be an inspiration for others, so I'll keep my camera rolling!
