My first car was one of these. 1.3L engine with wider than normal tyres. Great little vehicle. It handled like a skateboard.

I'm surprised there's not rust around the front and rear screens, the way those seals have split at the corners. Hard to know if replacing them would just be asking for trouble, or a worthwhile step to keep the tin-worms out.

Great to see a Rover 100 / Metro in such good condition - I didn't realise they still had Hydragas suspension - was that dropped for the face-lift version? My mother-in-law bought an N reg one new, that had the new front (you are right, the version you have has aged better than the later version) - I remember it being delivered on the 31st of July with a promise not to drive it that day ... back when Rover had too many new cars going out on the first day of the new letter to deliver in a day!

Engine cutting out when hot could be ect sensor,which I think is in the radiator on them.usually accompanied with hot starting issues,and heavy petrol smell due to over fuelling.

Interesting Alex! I wonder if the engine has OBD1? Or a Rover diagnostic tool? Hoping you get to the bottom of that issue as well as dealing with the Hydrogas.

Has it got a hard ride? They suffer the same problems as all the hydragas cars. I had mine changed last summer. Transformed the car

Yes, Ive only driven it locally but yes it was firm.

you could get replica tax disc to cover the period from new up to the oldest tax disc you have. that would be cool

I noticed the indicators are on the left stalk .. I had an H reg (1-Aug-1990) Maestro with the same stalks ... I can't recall which way round they were; does anyone have any idea when Austin Rover swapped the stalks?
