To answer a question you had at the end: The reason Calendar Man is involved is as a narrative device. He's basically a greek chorus to provide exposition and remind the stakes/emotion of the situation. Remember the original work was a 13 part comic series. Having Calendar Man show up every few issues to recap the mystery and occasionally add a ticking clock is more entertaining than having Batman talk to the bad computer every act break.

Wasn't he also jealous of Holiday in the comics for stealing his thing and tried to kill them? That would explain why Two-Face didn't break him out, because maybe Two Face figured out who Holiday was and didn't want Calendar coming after them?

@oliverthedum2129 Yeah exactly. Happen on New Year's Eve. There's a pattern break (2 killings in December) and then Harvey comes home with wet hair right after a killing on a boat. Gilda thinks Harvey did it and just leaves the killing to "him" after that point.
@fedweezy4976
@fedweezy4976 Ай бұрын
@@oliverthedum2129 Gilda did Halloween (one falcone to start it), Thanksgiving (revenge for the murder attempt), Christmas (again, weakening the falcones). Dent does New Years (picks up where Gilda left off) this is all explicitly stated by Gilda (although she could've misattributed the new years eve murder to Dent just bc of the hair. After new years and starting on Valentine's Day (Alberto's Birthday) the killings shift to the Maronis because Alberto takes up the identity of Holiday. Then all the killings after (except maybe April fools bc the silhouette looks like a woman's) are Alberto either killing Maroni's men or covering his tracks (coroner and Carla). Though everything after the arms dealer is ambiguous imo. Yes Alberto had motive to kill the coroner, but they mention that Holiday had to be someone who the coroner knew in order to get that close, and Dent is the only one who fits that description. Same with the arms dealer, he mentioned he got one order every month, any one of them could've killed him. Carla might've been killed by Alberto to cover his tracks, or it could've been Dent or Gilda just killing her because she's a Falcone.

I think it’s very funny that your theory of the movie being themed after “Men leaving their loved ones alone to prioritize work” actually fits much better with the comic. Since in the comic Alberto is the first Holiday Killer because he never was able to spend time with his father (since Carmine was always working and his birthday was the same day as Valentines Day) and Gilda being the second Holiday Killer to be able to get Harvey’s attention while he got lost in his work.

This one was very easy to follow and I really liked your explanation at the end for how you got to the answer. On the topic of green screen vs suspect board I'm torn. I LOVE the image of you looking absolutely crazy in front of a board of suspects tied together with string. On the other hand, I liked being able to see more snippets of the movie while you talked. If there was a sort of hybrid system that would make your videos perfect.

Oh also, idk if you have any interest but it would be neat to see you try to solve the mystery in the original comic. The holiday killer is a different character there. Of course, the comic Holiday Killer was probably already spoiled for you in the comments here (or maybe you mention it at the end of this video, I haven’t finished it yet), but if you somehow don’t already know then I would love to see you try to solve the comic next Halloween. Side note, personally, I really like the choice they went with for the movie adaptation, and I think it was smart to change the killer to preserve the mystery for comic fans, but I know it was a point of contention when the film released. I love comics and I’m a bit of a historian for DC, but man I hate to call myself a comic fan sometimes because some people take things wayyyyy too seriously or are just insane. But I will agree with the fans on the Batman: Hush adaptation. That movie also twists around who Hush is to keep the mystery but it is a really whack change

Love your videos so much! It would be so cool if you ever did a video solving one of those murder mystery kits like the cryptic killers one, it comes with a folder filled with evidence documents pictures etc and I feel like the reveal is actually logical and you’d have a great chance at cracking it

Gilda being the Holiday killer just doesn’t make sense to me. Why would she kill Alberto? Why does Holiday have the face of a guy if she’s a women? Why kill Carmines daughter? And the Maronis?.

I found it hilarious when Batman said "I had no idea I had to be a detective." This is his first real case, he was just punching small time thieves before this.

If there was ever a holiday based killer in Batman I'd just assume it was Calendar man

The Long Halloween, yes. I already forgot plot of the movie, even through remember comic plot. They are very similar but different in a couple major ways. And yes, I like comic plot in these aspects more. Spoiler: In the comic Alberto faked his death and after that he is responsible (as i remember) for 1 Holiday killing and after that he took responsibilities for all Holiday killings, because he was a fan and a copycat of the Holiday killer. In the end Albert is in Arkham in a cell near calendar man, became friend with him and took the name of the Holiday killer for the future. Real Holiday killer is Harvey Dent and his wife, Dent took the blame for all killings in the end and his wife burns the evidents that she started it all and was true Holiday Killer. As i remember she wasn't able to have a child with Dent because Harvey spend all his time working, so in frustration she just started to kill mafia. I explained the differences pretty badly, but I hope everyone gets it.

so some things of interest, as well as answers to your questions (also spoilers for the graphic novel as there seems to be some differences): -"why did the holiday killer look bigger?" Gilda was likely wearing larger clothes to hide her figure and make it harder to indentify her. In the original graphic novel we never get a GOOD look at Holiday, so we can never be sure how tall or how muscular or wide they are, so it may be a holdover from that, the animators may have also cheated by making holiday look bigger to better hide the reveal -"what was the purpose of calender man?" several. One, her's a red herring, as his theming around calnders (specifically, how he'd commit crimes related to days on the calender) made him a suspect, but more so it acts as a way of helping determine who holiday is, as he'd provide some insight onto how holiday may be thinking during the story. It also is relevant in the graphic novel because he HATES Holiday for stealing his gimmick. Also since the point is we don't KNOW who holiday is for most of the story, calender man is meant to be a go between, to tell us how holiday may be as a person and thus help give them presence as a cahracter via his theorising. -Why did falcone hire a guy to shoot dent only to say "if i wanted you dead you'd be dead"? perhaps that was a lie, or perhaps he truly didn't want to kill dent, only scare him into confessing. -you seemed to be wondering what the various villains had to do with things, and the answer is really simple: in the original graphic novel it was split into several issues themed around each holiday, and part of this theming is to have a villain appear in the issue, though I can't remember if they were meant to be themed around the holiday too or just picked at random. Riddler is brought in by the Falcone's at one point to help figure out who Holiday was. now some things from the graphic novel, as it sounds like they changed some things: -Calender man brings up the possibility of there being multiple Holidays. -ALberto didn't die and in fact claims to be Holiday, and thus he is arrested and put across from Calender Man so they can argue with each other. -we still get the final reveal of gilda burning her Holiday costume in the original graphic novel its meant to be ambiguous who the true holiday was, as to wther it was Gilda, Alberto or even Harvey Dent himself, as not only could any one of them be wrong or lyign (alberto could be confessing just so people think he's a real tough guy so he can get attention) or suffering a mental delusion. I think the general consensus is that ALberto and Gilda were the true Holiday, killing a set of people each for their own reasons (Gilda so she can free Harvey from the Falcones and ALberto so he can finally get respect and some revenge).

It's crazy that even though your original guess was wrong, it was still right. Spoilers: Alberto is actually Holiday in the original comic story(kinda). The original Long Halloween is very good but the ending can be a little confusing, basically there were two/three Holidays, Gilda was the original one, she was killing the Falcone family so that Harvey would stop neglecting her, she did not kill Alberto, she thinks it was Harvey, but the thing is that Alberto did not die, he claims that he faked his death and killed his family for neglecting him. In the end Alberto is arrested for the murders and Two Face kills Falcone, puting an end to the Long Halloween. In the movie when Batman says "Alberto was the simplest solution, but a wrong one" is a reference to how in the comics Batman never finds out Gilda was the original killer, and just arrests Alberto because he is the most obvious suspect, ignoring the possibility of there being two killers(even though both Two Face and Calendar Man imply there were two killers)

When you fell for the Alberto trick, I was in a similar space. The only reason soemeone would change motives like with the first three kills is a feeling of betrayal... or if it was someone else's motive....

To your defence with your Alberto guess, in the comic he was the one convicted for the holiday murders. As far as even batman was aware he was the holiday killer

So my running theory as I watched the movies alongside your video (maybe mentioning exactly where you stopped at the beginning of every discussion would be helpful in the future) was that Gilda was the brains and she was using Dent’s second personality which he was unaware of. She even has that line “Only what was inside him (Harvey) hadn’t been ripped out. That was… useful”. So I was guessing that the holiday killers larger figure was due to the actual person in the suit being Harvey, while Gilda instigated his second personality. My theory was helped when it almost looked like holiday was different when they showed up at the end to give Harvey an alibi. So I think the “hired gun” as Gordon called it was Gilda, hence why Harvey tried to keep the police from going after her, but all the other murders were from Harvey’s hands as Gilda planned it all. There was also that one scene where the old Maroni died with no gun on the table and no tie there, then holiday runs off away from the body without ever getting close yet when the young maroni returns, the stuff is there as if a second person placed it down.

you should really try to solve the "how to get away with murder season 1" murder. for context, the first episode already ells you who are present in the murder, but doesnt tell you why, how or exactly who murders (also, for extra points, at first you dont even know who died). i just loved this series, and every season is a new mistery and repeats the formula.
