I think I had no idea and kind of just took it as it was revealed. I was certain it wasn't the one armed man for some reason .When they said it was Renault I thought it was odd but wemt with it. Leo kinda confused me but I went with it. It felt like those two weren't the most interesting so obviously it could only be Bob after them. The reveal of his host suprised me. Overall I was pretty clueless. I kind of just accepted whatever the show told me lmak because I didn't really know what to make of any of it. I didn't really see any of the characters as having done it except Jacobi.

I love how generational differences can deeply change how we interpret media. Like apart from the confusion over catalogs, I love how certain you were about Andy the "crying cop" being the murderer, and how you kept going back to that theory. And if this show came out today, yeah you'd have a pretty strong point. But in the media climate that Twin Peaks was released in, the "crying cop" was novel, and maybe even decades away from being a trope. Showing a cop having an emotional breakdown to a murder was something that simply didn't exist on TV at the time, so it would have never read like a red herring or a ploy, but as a kind of genuine emotion no one had been brave enough to show us. Like that is possibly the biggest moment in the opening scenes that tells us "this is not a regular cop show".
@chasebridges4 ай бұрын
oh wow! I didn't even realize that. That's really interesting
@shaynegryn4 ай бұрын
@chasebridges yeah, like without getting too deeply into it, Twin Peaks is like a post-modern deconstruction of prime time TV. The premise of the show is what if there was a murder in a small town, but then it actually affected people like they were real humans? Have you made it through season 3 yet? Because there were some moments in this video where I was like ok you're gonna get a kick out of season 3.

@shaynegryn4 ай бұрын
@@arbyswitch5580 It really is! And coming from a loving place. I can't recommend Maggie Mae Fish's videos on this strongly enough. Twin Peaks makes so much more sense when you take yourself out of viewing it within the world of Twin Peaks, and look at it in the context of what the creators were responding to. Like it's as much satire as it is homage. Lynch and Frost recreated and heightened the parts of Soap Operas they loved, while deconstucting and subverting the parts that they found harmful.

David Lynch doesn’t include anything for no reason. Cryptic, cinematic, and deeply instinctive do not equal meaningless. Every frame and line in all of his work is stuffed with rhyme and reason, it’s just not always (or even usually) literal and direct
@bumblebflame9911 ай бұрын
@@jacksonburnette207 Hate to sound like a pretentious twat, but this is very tue. Lynch is such an odd, but nuanced man, and he is hell bent on putting the entirety of his vision into his work regardless of how little sense it makes to the viewer. I've watched the 90s series like 4 or 5 times fully through by now, and every time I do, I unravel the massive onion that is Twin Peaks. It always amazes me at how much I've not picked up on the last viewing. I always explain Twin Peaks to people as "sometimes, the show will make absolutely no sense, but you will feel something." Each time I rewatch it, those moments of "not making sense" dissipate, and I'm left with an explanation I didn't have before and that feeling I once felt bolstered ever more.

Something I think a lot of people who came to twin peaks later miss is it's context within the evolution and history of serialized tv, up to this point serialization was pretty much limited to daytime soaps (all my children, guiding light) and prime time soaps (Dallas, Dynasty). And Twin Peaks really bridges that gap from Prime time Soap to serialized drama that wouldn't be fully realized until arguably The Sopranos in 98. So a big reason why your board is absolutely covered after only a few episodes is this is at its core, a very artistic, very avant garde, soap opera. I don't say this to devalue it in any way, I think every genre is a potential medium for art if the auteur is talented enough and I think this is one of the best shows ever made. But I think the death of the prime time soap and generally the extremely rapid evolution of radio/television as a storytelling medium has left anyone under 30 missing a pretty key piece of context in fully understanding the show. Apologies if this came off at all as pretentious, there are a million ways to enjoy art and none are more or less valid than any others, I'm just a huge TV history nerd so I wanted to share :)

it's actually a rather shallow and juvenile soap opera

That's why one of the major theories says that the point was to make us value Laura and her death's impact on the community hence why the mystery gets dragged on so much

Love this comment, thanks for sharing. The way Twin Peaks sort of disguises itself as this blend of soap opera and police procedural/whodunit mystery and slowly unveils its supernatural elements over time is I think what makes it so special and unique so it's awesome to understand the historical context behind that.
@lopa-u9f Жыл бұрын
you seem to be confused@@regista4 it disguises itself as supernatural, all the while being very much about a real thing (the possession of father by bob is symbolic for the reality of the man just simply being evil) all the rest of the stuff (log lady, cooper's visions) are just lynch being lynch - surreal abstraction not supernatural symbolism (white lodge, black lodge, orchids and queen of hearts and and and)

Can we expect part 02 after this video reaches 100K views? Eagerly waiting. I have watched this video multiple times. It's a hidden gem in the interwebs.

I always tell people "Just make it to the end of Ep.3..." because that's when it really starts to grab people, but if they make it to S.1 Ep.8... they're hooked for life! 😂 Especially love the dialogue from S.2 E.2 where Lucy recaps most of the cliffhangers for Cooper 🤣 and that doesn't even include all the stuff they don't know about yet

Dude, this is awesome. I love twin peaks like nothing else and this is some of the most entertaining content related to the show I’ve seen. I really hope you talk about season 3, and try to decode it in this type format, because the rabbit hole is deeeeep.

"It's safe to assume that we met the murderer in this episode." uh oh. given the nature of Twin Peaks & David Lynch this is probably the worst (and by extension the BEST) show to do this with. very excited to watch. what a fun video concept!

Love Twin Peaks and David Lynch's work (also gotta give credit to Mark Frost). Great video so far. Kept me up last night from going to sleep. Without spoiling anything, there was a point in the video where you said something and I was thinking to myself "Oh he's on to something." Keep going though, I wanna see if actually get it.

Sitting here as someone who watched through the series twice, it's interesting seeing all the crazy ass theories you came up with. Like, this is the first time I've seen someone actually accuse Norma or Andy as the killer.

Season 3 is SO “out there,” and SO good! Also after you finish seasons 1 & 2 - before you move on to season 3, be sure to watch Lynch’s feature film prequel: FIRE WALK WITH ME.

Great video! It's been absolutely wild watching your picks as someone who's seen the show all the way through. The killer reveal only happens part of the way into season 2, so it won't be quite as daunting as you thought, but most of the other mysteries (and some new ones) continue all the way to the finale, so it's still well worth watching. Have fun and good luck in your deductions!

This is a great concept. Just wanted to show some support since Twin Peaks content really doesn't get the views it deserves! Props on the editing and script too. You've got a knack for this style of content. Keep at it.

As someone who's rewatches Twin Peaks on the regular your videos were very entertaining, and not in a bad way! I love Twin Peaks but I don't have many friends who have seen it so there's no one to talk to about it but seeing your videos was refreshing because it reminded me of my experiences watching it for the first time, and also because it was great seeing a completely different and funny take on solving the central mystery!
