Over the past few weeks my 2009 RenaultSport Twingo RS developed a misfire that was getting worse and worse. Tried replacing the 4 pencil like ignition coils but that didn't work. Today we try to solve this.

Water enters through the ignition coil packing. The cause is the upper cowl top. Water leaks from the gap and falls around the spark plug. I have taken countermeasures. From Japan

The renault 1.6 16v lumps do suffer coils and need sparks at same time, if my memory serves me correct they are never 100% smooth at idle anyway. Think it is just a charactaristic of them engines. Renault scuttle issues are present on every model in their range lol.

I've got the same issue with cylinders 3&4. Whoever replaced the coil pack on 4 put the securing bolt in too tight and has sheared. I was a bit reluctant to to use excessive force on the spark plugs in case it did snap. But seeing as I need to get the manifold off to sort the coil pack retaining bolt I'll leave it until then.

I had same on cylinder 4 coil pack retaining bolt. I tapped it out and then installled a 10mm bolt not an 8mm.

Let us know if the new sparkplugs solved the issue completely, thanks!

Yes new coils and spark plugs sorted it all. Also resealing the scuttle and windscreen plastic cover.

Check your central coil pack. Different ignition setup to the 1.6 engine.
