Muscle strain is tied to strength level and further improved by weapon skill, so taking a weapon trait is pretty based (you can also disable it/ reduce it in sandbox options) vertical sound might be fixed? in b41 if you make noise on a rooftop, the entire building floods up, we didn't see that Devs confirmed zombies don't take fall damage, but we confirmed that zombies that fall far enough turn into crawlers

Zombies not taking fall damage after falling up to 32 storeys is pretty nuts. I feel like if you can kill a zombie by stomping on their head, they should also die by being pancaked on the pavement by gravity. Especially if the same fall would kill the player character. Maybe someone will mod it in

Zombies can take fall damage or even die if you change "zombie fall damage" in sandbox settings. Recently found it out while trying to survive in another skyscraper

I think sleeping on chairs can be reintroduced and balanced by anything that’s comfy, like the aforementioned couch and recliner. Chairs like bar stool, metal folding chair, or wood bench even? Imagine sleeping on that, especially routinely (since PZ can be situationally demanding like that sometimes)

As someone living roughly 40 miles further south than Louisville, I can attest that being in just your underwear and sneakers will not prevent you from being too hot on a summer's day even if you're sitting still in the shade. If you're lucky, at night it will cool off to around 70F (21 C) except in the middle of summer when it "cools off" to 80F (27C). And you don't stop sweating at night because the humidity goes up when the temperature goes down. Good times. I think it would be hilarious if you could go down to the ground floor and see a literal mountain of dead zombies. Bonus points if you built the pile up so much that it was too short a distance for the zombies to die.

Melee builds got nerfed to heck and back in B 42. Even with 10 fitness and strength I get exhausted after killing 8-10 zombies, definitely needs some tweaking, because people are just going to spam Molotovs more now. I don’t think making melee more taxing was a bad idea, but the second problem is the devs also jacked up the zombie count outside of suburbs in towns.

The weapon proficiency always had far more to do with getting tired from combat than the fitness stat. We’re all used to the nearly finished versions of patches that are pushed to test. This patch is really on the internal treating phase right now and I bet a lot of stuff changes.

@ this is kind of bad though lol. I went from not excited at all to sort of excited. The guns are much better now, you just have to actually aim at what you want to hit rather than get in the neighborhood and rely on the auto aim. But I’ve played it for maybe 4 or 5 hours now and it’s just tedious. I turned muscle fatigue off but you get tired much quicker anyway. Why they did both I’ll never know. It’s the same game essentially just far more tedious. Decided I’d shelve it for a while and see what they do with it.

From what I've been reading, they did not (knowingly) use genAI imagery in anything. Worst case scenario one of the artists they contracted /could/ have used it without being transparent, but nothing has been confirmed and they are looking into it. I'd recommend being very careful about potentially spreading info like that without full context

there's some pretty damning evidence, particularly the scene with jackie jay LBMW, and I'm not talking about the image thats made the rounds with all the annotations, there's things like the headphone jack turning into a pencil, artists don't do that. I really don't care all that much but they commissioned art, not AI art, I doubt they'd remove it from the entire game like they did without their own suspicions

“Realistic” is tossed around in regards to this game and it’s just super unrealistic on its face. All the cars are gone, but the people remain. The stores don’t look looted, but they have almost nothing in them. Gun stores have less ammo than I have in my house right now in rl. Lots of immersion issues. They got rid of the “peak zombies,” concept, which was another thing that made zero sense. So if you choose normal pop you get the old peak pop right off the bat.

And what do agitated and scared people do when the car in front of them isn't moving? They honk... the reason so many zombies are on the Muldraugh main street, is because the people got trapped at the Muldraugh crossroads due to the blockade to the south, made a crapton of noise, carnage started, and people started running back to Muldraugh. (Or that's my reasoning, anyway :D)

​​@@Bhamloud47 I'm not a gun person, but, as another example, walking into someone's kitchen and seeing that they have 1 tin of peaches and 1 raw steak and 1 fork in their entire kitchen is "unrealistic". But there's a balance between making the game challenging (by forcing you to explore and go to multiple places to find food, weapons, ammo, etc, and come into contact with zombies) and making it "realistic" (by putting every type of gun and all the ammo you'd ever need in a single gun store). If you want more loot, because you want more "realism" in that way, then you can change the loot spawns in sandbox settings. Or you can pretend that all the guns were purchased after the lockdown, and the people looting the grocery stores used the front doors instead of breaking through the windows and the employees who were on shift just like tidied up after them. That doesn't seem unrealistic to me either.

i noticed if you keep going backwards while aiming (even on 0 nimble) the zombies will start their grab animation but never actually grab you which eliminates the need for shoving unless you actually want to shove. I don't know if that was a thing before but by now i never push and just keep going backwards if i need space because they will create it by themselves now.

Not sure if the fatigue reduction in drinks is bugged or not, but from what I've felt in B42, I think your character becoming tired is now linked to how much muscle fatigue you have. Might explain just how long it takes for your character to become tired without the wakeful trait

muscle strain is a good mechanic but could do with more tweaking. low strength characters minds of well also play with low fitness because any amount of prolonged combat will put you on your ass and slows gameplay pacing to a crawl. i guess that's what sandbox is for anyway. the default Apocalypse settings were always intended to discourage gungho. other than that i miss the old moodles.

I tried the new update but didn't like it. Im a walking stick that chainsmokes IRL and don't get "muscle fatigue" after two seconds. The new aiming sucks (i do think it's broken, so might not be working as intended). New shaders/lighting are pretty. Aninal husbandry is cool. Unfortunately seems like it will be the foundation for more tedium, but thank you for doing your runs, it's the only way i can enjoy the game due to the little free time i have during the week.

Indeed. Thats more or less my impression too; More busywork that is just there to be there, and just takes the fun out of the game. There is a reason that realism in gameplay shouldn't be overdone because it can easily take away the fun. And I honestly think they've gotten a bit too "real" in this update. (and yeah, that aiming looks more broken than the U.S. voting system. I.E. completely F'ed) And some of the stuff they've changed was clearly because they saw players breezing through things that are supposed to be difficult, but forgetting that those same players have 1000+ hours in-game. Its gonna scare off new players, and thats just a bad move, financially. I was considering getting the game, having watched playthroughs for over a year, but if this is the direction they're going in, I won't bother. Any time a dev makes gameplay needlessly complicated I instantly lose interest. If I wanted to play a bloody Dark Souls game, I'd play Dark Souls...

​@@NewMitchell-wh3fj Even if you are fit you'll get sore. It's not about fitness. It's about over exertion, poor technique, and over/under gripping. I've known guys who are athletes who run marathons and lift weights, but put them in a boxing ring, or give them hand tools to do manual labor, and suddenly all that fitness is useless and their hands are all locked up, and theyve pulled or strained muscles. People think "oh I have good cardio I can swing a bat". But forget about the part where you are actually hitting something. Exceptionally hard. Those vibrations carry through your gripped hands into your arms causing even more fatigue. If someone has never played a piano before, even if they are a super star athlete, their hands will still kill after 20-30 minutes of simply moving their fingers. Because they arent at all used to trying to move their hands that way. And thats just pressing simple keys. Not even a fraction of the effort in trying to kill something with a melee weapon.

This should be everyone's first build 42 challenge. I'm going to play this scenario first. Maybe as an insurgent though. The moment you had quiet, and got the food and tools.... I haven't been more relieved watching a PZ run. This really REALLY showcases the fundamental difference between B41 and B42. In 41, there were certain metrics that you had to know. If you made a mistake, it would eventually snowball and catch up with you. This shows that with B42, it's far more balanced, and you can ROYALLY screw up, and still make it through. I'm so freaking excited in place of the anxiety I used to have about learning the new build. Thank you for this, and for not losing your nerve! Powerful run, whether or not you live. I haven't reached the end yet.

I disagree on the criticism point. I don't think anything should be held back, even vitriol. If you're passionate about the game, its good to be honest about it, even if that honesty comes off as mean. You and I may not care about AI art, I may even think it's a moral good that artists are being replaced with robots, but other people do care, and they're more right to metaphorically kick and scream about it than you are to tell them not to.

O wow guns, animals, and skyscrapers, that's great, how about basic QOL updates, so people don't have to run 40 mods to make it playable, at this point I have over 2500 hours punched in this game and I've given up, the devs are lazy and rely on the modders wayyy too much for all the heavy lifting that's needed to keep this game fresh and interesting, anyone who can't see the blatant unfixed flaws in this game is just some fanboy tbh
