The only things missing are the automatic item placer, the items that can’t be gotten from an afk farm and the items that can’t be created via afk with the use of the autocrafter and any linked afk farms. Otherwise you could have a starter afk farm setup that creates an afk factory that creates everything.

The biggest thing detracting this from being survival friendly is not the actual redstone, but the interface! If it's painfully slow to type in and request the specific item type and amount, then it'll never feel better to use than just searching a chest manually. The best way to do it imo is something like Etho's Nexus, where you have chests of items you press Q [Drop item] on to request a stack of that item type

it helps a whole bunch to code it first! since it is important to encode the recipes and shapes, it may be smart to use memory specific languages like c++ instead of python, but it helps lay the structure of the design out much more. sounds like a massive step for redstone, with a "small" step for redstone kind.

It is possible, but your requirements add some extra complexity. You're planning to have one central crafting module, which means that not only you have a bottleneck, but you need to be very mindful of your timings as you will not be able to make full use of crafter's storage feature, instead passing 9 or less items at a time for each craft. If you mistime, game lags, or any chunk unloads unexpectedly, your items will bunch up and the same items will combine, such as cobblestone for dispenser or piston recipe. "Wrong" recipes will also not dispense as normal, so you need to handle the error checking as well at that point.You also still need your system to choose the correct setup to send your items to, as well, because AFAIK the grid blocking can only be done manually and is necessary for basic shaped crafts like torches or doors for example, to say nothing of tools, weapons, armor, stairs, slabs, trapdoors, comparators, repeaters, etc. In dedicated crafting systems, you skip that problem by minimizing the timing dependent components via storing a stack of each stackable component in proper slot within the grid and nonstackable within a dropper as an example so that the hoppers do not need to worry about keeping sequence, just topping up the materials. Very compact versions of craft-storage cells already exist to the point I'd focus on the display, ordering system and the interconnectivity while sorting the items by type (perhaps storing the basic resources further back so that inflow is used to craft first rather than being stored, and it can always be re-added to the pipe) and setting up an infinite loop topping up the lacking components with comparators, filters, water streams and some logic. Probably dolphins too to make sure nothing despawns. Of course, I may be wrong - some amazingly creative redstone projects still baffle me :) I'm looking forward to seeing how you tackle this one!

No, that's not likely, music discs have a data density of 2916 bits per block. That's nearly half a kilobyte! A copper bulb stores a singular bit, in other words 1/2916 of the storage of music discs. I've been considering an extremely similar contraption to this since they announced the crafter, and figured signal strength lines would be the best way to go, but I never even considered using record boxes for storage! My idea for how to request items you don't yet have in storage was to use a stack data structure implemented attached to the CPU, letting the system determine each step to get the resulting item. For example, you request a blast furnace, so the system adds that item to the stack. While adding it to the stack, it checks how many blast furnaces are in storage. If none, it returns each item of the recipe to the CPU, which then each get added to the stack, again querying the storage to see how much of those items are available. Maybe it says it has enough iron and smooth stone, so it adds 5 and 3 of each respectively, but it doesn't have enough furnaces, so it adds 1 furnace to the stack, looks for the recipe, adds 8 cobblestone to the stack, and now it simply counts back down the stack, sending the item requests to crafting component in the shapes provided by the recipe storage. So we send cobblestone to it for a furnace, send 5 iron, a furnace, and 3 smooth stone to it for the blast furnace, and then finally pop the last item off the stack, indicating that we can return it. For that approach to work, your stack simply needs to indicate the operand (the item), the instruction (whether to request it from storage, send it to the crafter, return it to the player), and possibly a second operand to indicate the amount of each item, but you COULD also just put it on tbe stack multiple times (but you'd need a MUCH larger stack, so maybe not). You can also largely avoid adding items you already have available to the stack, I mostly just included it to make it clear what it was doing. Really your stack would be more optimized to only have furnace and blast furnace placed on it here.

@Sloimay
@Sloimay 7 ай бұрын
Very awesome project! However I don't think you'll need a CPU for it. Crafting an item is a very well defined list of instructions you need to do, and the order will never change; you can make the build be "CPU-like", but a fully-fledged CPU won't be as useful, and/or will be slower! So I'd recommend just using a frick tons of ROMs generated using the python MCSchematic library, and then use these ROMs for storing every recipe and the item IDs needed etc.. You won't need a CPU to interact with those, just some specific circuits!

My next idea is to be able to use the components independently like just using the smelter or just inputting items in the sorter or running otherwise unrelated calculations on the CPU. I also think this should be called the Creative Mode Computer (CMC)

Just a potential idea to make crafting easier. You could use a more universal setup with temporary items (like a named stackable item) instead of blocking slots like how quick carpet crafter was implemented, then a recipe with slots missing would just be encoded with the temporary items then all would be taken out by a hopper/hopper minecart every craft. Could slow it down a bit, but you would need far fewer modules and could duplicate the universal ones if needed. But that's the least of your problems... good luck :)

Are you suggesting custom sorters for the outflow? Because due to item bunching (hopper/dropper chains, especially on chunk borders) sometimes you will need to also detect that crafter failed to craft and suck up everything that's inside the traditional way. "Wrong" inputs are not ejected, so it only takes one lag spike or partial unload. That machine promises to be huge!

This is the most impressive and ambitious thing I’ve seen since somebody made Minecraft in Minecraft using redstone.

If you can make this and make it run decently quickly, then more power to you. Would truly be a marvel to witness.

I had the same idea in mind for making the holy grail work, but also have very little experience in cpu, besides basic addition, but if you want to go out of your way to find help, check for the ORE server if you do not know it, they have a bunch of very skilled redstone builders who are purely based on the computational redstone side of minecraft

this sounds awesome! itd be cool if u could set a minimum amount of items that it will automatically fill up with to help with waiting times. like maybe say never have less than 500 pistons, if u need more then ull have to order it like how u described. itd basically just use the cpu to automatically order so it shouldnt be too much work other than having to store these values

"storrage" should be "storage". This is a neat idea! I hope it gets developed further.

Funny thing is when I saw the crafter announced I also envisioned literally the exact same thing, I have some experience in cpu design but purely dealing with the logic side and not really on timing things so I have a basic understanding that in order to make this I would need 3 things, a general crafter, a redstone computer capable of taking a request for an item and an amount and turning that into a crafting recipe for that item, and an automatic storage system to hook that up to and the biggest issue I have had thus far in making it is literally redstone timings.
