Back in the day, I had a friend who was from St. Lucia and we communicated perfectly. He spoke St. Lucian Creole and I spoke Haitian Creole. At the end of the day, we are African descendents who speak/understand the language our ancestors had to create because our colonizers would not allow us to learn to read/write. What a group of resilient people we are!!!! Let's EDUCATE, UNITE & ORGANIZE!

I once lived with someone from St. Lucia. Someone came knocking on our door and she said "Ki yes kap konyen pot la?" Some Haitians were shocked that she used that word. Haitians say "frape." The words mean the same thing in French, except that the Haitians give a sexual connotation to the word "konyen."

We say bon soir as well. "What's the price of the bananas." "Commen pou fig la". As another person commented, the pronunciation of certain words are different in different parts of St. Lucia. Another thing, the older folks spoke patois elegantly without any english words. Nowadays its adulterated, so lots of english words are added, and pronunciations change. @ 758 🇱🇨.

lajet lol 😂 😂 but Martinique and Dominica has the closest creoles to st lucia, one difference between Martinique and st lucia creoles is the "r" sound is replaced with the "w" and sound travay(twavay), rete(wete)... I'm from Martinique, have family from st lucia & friends from Haiti, if we all talk generally without abbreviated words (map - I will, nay - I will, ma - I dont) it's easy if we don't speak too fast lol

I’m not sure if it would be possible to have a universal writing system since all the creoles are unique in their own way to also represent the different cultures/ ethnicities found in each country. A great step would be moving towards having more information or materials accessible such as dictionaries etc So far, I’ve been doing some work in my free time to find the similarities and differences between creole works and phrases. Yes you can. The French Creole is spoken with slight differentiations among Haiti, Guadeloupe, Dominica, Martinique, St. Lucia and parts of Trinidad. I believe we can also converse with people from French Guyana. When i was in Dubai i was speaking patois/creole with some people from one of the islands around Africa Reunion and Mauritius. Indeed we can converse. ive seen it myself.

Although this guy is from St Lucia he is not speaking authentic Lucian Creole. He’s probably from the northern part of the island. However I give him credit for his efforts. Try getting someone from south of the island eg: Dennery, Vieux Fort, Laborie, Choiseul, Soufriere… you will definitely get the authentic version that will surprise you even more

Colonials didn't want blacks to speak Kreyol to keep them divided and it worked, cause a Haitians don't even know a St Lucians can understand them when they speaking Kreyol.

Just hearing the related words shows how the European invaders did not want every creole nation United.🤔 Because we as a people would dominate the West Indy island as a Union instead of being devided.

Here in America certain people are called creole rather than just the language so I'm assuming some of us here in America are really Haitian. Because a lot of history been lied about. I don't know how but some of us are connected to Haitian and Jamaicans well as Nigerian spiritually without even been born there on the island or in Africa but the and I don't know people in neither place but I know I'm Haitian by soul.and I wear Haitian flag

Yes. In Belize as well, there is an ethnic group called “Creoles”. Based on the history, many of us are connected to countries like Ghana and Nigeria due to the slave trade as most of the enslaved in some Caribbean islands like Haiti and Jamaica are of those descent so I guess it would make sense why we have such a bond and it also shows in the similarities of our food. Same or similar food, but different names or cooking techniques

@Yehmanu
@Yehmanu 3 жыл бұрын
@@charlesjohnson945 because you are, the word "creole" himself doesn't mean anything, it doesn't designate really a language, but a procces of creation a complete new tongue with the language of a dominating group deeply modified and reorganized by the influence of a dominated group more numerous, by the way in function of the dominating language, the new tongue called "creole" will be french lexicon based, english lexicon based, portuguese lexicon based ... But even there, there is a trap , indeed it's not because different creoles have the same language based that they are mutually intelligible, thus french based creole of Caribbean and Indian Ocean aren't intercomprehensible

@@lonalxaia @Lonal Xaia for sure you're absolutely right, and you can even add Saint-Vincent and the grenadines and a few places in Venezuela like El Callao, Guïria or Macuro, i didn't cite them because antillean french creole is no longer the language of their whole societies today, and it is dying unfortunately, but of course we have strong cultural connections between us
