A friendly suggestion. While grinding, drilling, cutting or doing other work where fine dust is produced, pls ensure you wear a proper nasal mask. This will save damage to your lungs in the long run. This maybe inconvenient while working but is a life saver. The fact most Doctors won't tell you is, when it comes to lungs(unlike heart or kidney) there's very little medical advancement and cure. Pls don't expose yourself to COPD or Fibrosis or asbestosis. All caused by fine dust. Thanks for reading. Take care.

Look into getting some peel ply instead of using tape. You can get it from any composite shop. It helps with resins and glues so it doesnt stick to your tools
@JPGavanCricket5 жыл бұрын
jayvandyll most of the time the tape just works for a small amount of compression but mostly to have a barrier between the bat and wooden blocks

Great work... Highly appreciated... Only one thing that may be improved is the filler you filled in front side of the bat is clearly visible after finishing... If the color tone matched with the original wood ..No one could have noticed that its an old bat 😊👍

From dud to hundred. Love the concept of these challenge vids to test your skills! As mentioned by others, the music is a tad loud when you’re talking. One more from me, look at moving the camera to free standing when using the draw knife. One of a cricket bat makers/repairers greatest skills is the use of the draw knife, so show yours off without the camera shake. Looking forward to the next one of these! Great job.

Is it any good as a bat for hitting balls with? a) the face was all dried out and cracked - won't it just keep on cracking? (and you didn't seem to feed the wood with anything) b) won't the filled areas have a different feel from the original wood? c) won't the filler just break up and fall out when a ball hits it, despite the plastic covering? d) although I understand the purpose of the video is to "reclaim" an apparently worthless old bat, is it really worth all that work? e) is Super Glue really any use for wood? Just interested. No axe to grind.
@JPGavanCricket5 жыл бұрын
Hey Nick, happy to discuss. a) sometimes you can only do what you can do. The damage to the face is due to wear and tear which is natural for cricket bats and will continue to happen, like it has over the last 30 years. As a repairer my job is to get the maximum life span out of each bat but no bat lasts forever. b/c) they do sound a bit different but the filler is a decent top layer to the bat. The PVA filler doesn't crack up as much as it's a bit more elastic and is better than a hard filler in terms of performance. I've done the same on top level bats and even had one used in some Aussie T20/ODI games. d) client is happy to have their retired bat back and it made some interesting content. I say yes! e) super glue is awesome in bat repairs. Particularly reaching into tight cracks. Sometimes with wood glue you can't get it all the way into small openings. I've also found it lasts pretty well in most cases.
