I am noticing that many people around me are naming their babies from their ancestral heritage in the United States ... It was a trend for a while to give your child the most English name possible to help them fit in like "Elizabeth" or "John" but many people are now understanding the importance of reminding the child of where his or her family originates. German immigrated parents (whose parents named them very english names to fit in) are naming their children "Hugh" and "Ada" and so on. Another option that is becoming more popular is parents naming their children non- English names and giving them an English nickname , for instance I went to school with a Sung min but she went by Sonny and a Jung Soo but was called "Jimmy".

I love it! They would have had a seriously rotten time with names from my family: my nieces are Adley and Aubri, my cousin’s new baby is Haisley (a girl’s name) and my other cousin is about to have a baby girl named Ensley. Lordt, what was my brother and cousins thinking?😂😅
@seoulrain27954 жыл бұрын
These are some particular names... i'm curious, did they hear them somewhere and liked them, or did they think of these names?
@kristi41134 жыл бұрын
• Seoul Rain • My niece Adley’s name came from her mother’s grandfather’s last name, and who even knows what my cousins were thinking. Aubri is my brother’s stepdaughter. My grandmother, the great-grandmother of all these kids, would have been very displeased with the names. My cousin Jessica and I are less than a year apart, I’m older by about 10 months. Our grandmother wanted British names for all of us (it’s our family background, most of our ancestors were English and from royalty and nobility), and she wanted my Mom and my aunt to name my cousin and me Victoria (me) and Charlotte (Jess). She got neither. LOL
@seoulrain27954 жыл бұрын
@@kristi4113 wow, this is really interesting though
@kristi41134 жыл бұрын
• Seoul Rain • Baby names got weird in the 90’s, so I can see where grandparents would want something more respectable. I must say I hoped my expecting cousin would have done so, but she isn’t going to. I don’t even know what ‘Ensley’ means...her boy choice was Rowan, which is very Celtic, so I had to applaud that one.

And to me it sounded so weird at the time cuz in korean it was pronouced je ni peo. But after I immigrated to America I decided to stick to my catholic name Clara. But my classmate out of no where decided to call me Jennifer for some reason. And From then on, everyone called me Jennifer and I changed my legal name to Jennifer now
