I have always made it a rule on our sites to never stare into the laser with your remaining eye, if you do it gets really hard to find the kettle.

I used a 2 watt laser in a lab years ago and at that power (class 4) there was no messing about. I still treat low power lasers with respect though!

One interesting thing to note, the classification is based on the output power of the emitter. Because of the optical system that turns that dot into a line, everytime you double the distance from the emitter, you half the power you're exposed to as the power gets dispersed over a wider line.
@SkillBuilder7 ай бұрын
Good point well made. Natural light is an inverse square, double the distance quarter the light. That is why it is so hard to get natural light into the back of a room when you build and extension. A wall to wall bi-fold door will only give you a fraction of the light at the back of the room.

Glad I watched this just for the peace of mind. A tradie came to my house some time ago and accidentally pointed one of these things at my eyes but it was only momentary and I think I looked away quickly anyway. I didn't notice any adverse effect after this so I guessed it was all okay, but still nice to get confirmation.

CT1 is a very good choice. Use only a thin smear, it is stronger like that

Corrected title - Can Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation Levels Damage Your Eyes?
@bbsaid2187 ай бұрын
Pretty sure you can get goggles that protect your eyes if you’re that concerned
@SkillBuilder7 ай бұрын
Of course you can get protective glasses but are you going to give everyone on the site a pair when you get out your laser level?
@Tephnos7 ай бұрын
The protective goggles work by essentially rendering the beam impossible to see properly which would make them useless for working with.

Hi, I'm new to using laser levels for cabinets and tiling & I was wondering...is it also bad to stare at the laser line on the wall as well? I bought a laser level that is a "Max. Output
@SkillBuilder6 ай бұрын
I should have mentioned that you should not stare at the reflected beam. Normally that would be on silver foil or similar but white paint can be very reflective. It think if it is uncomfortable to look at that should be your guide. I have seen red lines hours after using lasers for long periods.
@ElliotCS1.66 ай бұрын
@@SkillBuilder Wow thx for your quick response! I read that class 2 lasers aren't as harmful as long as you don't stare at beam or reflection directly, but isn't a wavelength of 635nm a little much? I'm not seeing red lines at all like you mentioned, since I was just using it for a few min...but because of the reflection on the fresh paint...my eyes feel a little discomfort. I did look at the reflection directly from 5+ feet away for a few seconds...not realizing the paint would be reflecting it! I feel like they're getting better from last night though, I just don't want to go blind 😆🤦🏻♂️ I need my eyes lol...also any recommendation on protective eye wear &/or a laser level that has a weaker wavelength if that even matters!? Thank you!

I watched a bit of footage a while back about a women who was at a festival many years ago back in the early 1970's and she was talking about when she was their she was of her nut on LSD and thought it was a great idea to see how long she could stair at the sun, well by all accounts she said she kept it up for some time and ended up not being able to see for a number of day afterwards but yet slowly over time finally regained her eyesight. For goodness sake please do not try that experiment at home or out having some fun.

If laser levels actually damaged anyone's eyes with workplace exposure, you damn well know the American OHSA would be all over the manufacturers assess about it... And yet, they're not. I've never heard of a single documented instance of it happening. Laser pointers are pretty bad because they concentrate the entire power onto a single dot. A laser level spreads that beam fairly significantly, so the exposure level is a lot less (this is also why cross line levels can be brighter than 360 degree ones).

I still find it weird how laser eye surgery is a thing. In theory then, you could actually improve your eyesight by looking into a laser level, if you get lucky. *disclaimer: do not actually try this
@MRJWC23327 ай бұрын
no, because its a different wave length with out going into physics, light has different spetrum of light ie uv or infared. now a laser beam you can have very low frequency 0 to 1.500hz but used as a pulse beam for therapy, whilst cutting process, process, Frequency is a decisive parameter and is given in Hz (=Hertz). It specifies the number of laser pulses per second. In a CO2 laser machine, the value can be set within a range of 1,000 to 60,000 Hz. but it is not good pratice to even glimps into any laser, if you go to a club before you enter there are safty signs saying strobe lighting, laser lighting and ear sound protection must be warn on poster HSE. just be careful.......
