I think we are severely underestimating how long a lifetime is. In one lifetime someone could have seen Wilt, Kareem and LeBron all hold the scoring record. If you’re young enough right now you could still see maybe 2 or 3 other players break the record. A lot will change in the next ~80 years. Wilt set the record in 1966. Yes, that was a long time ago. But it was also only 57 years ago. Almost the entirety of basketball has happened in one lifetime thus far
@bware82

I think they meant "their" lifetime not in "a" lifetime, and followed it by saying they don't think there is a player young enough with the skillset to do it in the next 25 years.

You just completely disregarded the fact that Kareem had that record for over 40 of those 57 years. The next person who breaks it will literally have to average over 30ppg for over 20 years playing 70 games year in year out with no catastrophic or major injuries. The record is already out of reach for 98% of the league and he’s about to blow it into the water in 2-3 years.

@@dezz8598 only way that record is broken is some rule change.. as ridiculous as it sounds.. maybe someone suggest a 4 pointer.. but otherwise.. health and motivation is what would prevent someone from trying to break that record..

16:19 you said "we did not have those expectations from lebron" - Yeah we did though, we all read about some 16 year old playing pickup games with pros and dunking on them. We had those expectations, absolutely. Also, the scoring record that was broken, was initially held by a player who had the combination of the most unstoppable height+body+SHOT to this day (as opposed to the most unstoppable height/body in Wilt). Another MASSIVE point is this - Lebron is FOURTH ALL TIME for ASSISTS. Think about that, you can't score points for yourself if you give an assist. For those who don't quite understand how much better Lebron is than every single basketball player by a mile, here's a new stat: Let's say on average, an assist gives 2.2 points (2 most often, and sometimes a 3 pointer, but let's just give it 2.2 because I couldn't find someone with the actual number, so it sounds fair). Lebron = 38652 + (10420*2.2) = 61,675 = point value for player Kareem = 38387 + (5660*2.2) = 50,839 point value for player Michael = 32292 + (5633*2.2) = 44,684.6 point value for player Kobe = 33643 + (6306*2.2) = 47,516.2 point value for player. Wilt = 31419 + (4598*2.2) = 41,534.6 point value (might be slightly off due to averaging GP+avg assists). I don't think anyone can really grasp how lebron is far and away the absolute greatest player to have on the court, ever. LOL, he's also 9th all-time in steals. The only real argument that could be had, is if you add rebounds - which Kareem had 17,440, wilt had 23,924 (jesus god in heaven?), and lebron only has 10,667. Even if you give a rebound a point value of just "1", then Wilt and Kareem are technically still far behind Lebron.

on the scoring, agree, no one is catching Le Bron. IMHO the closest currently playing (and he as already said there is no way he's is playing that long), is LUKA - he's on 9000 point at career average of 27.6. so in theory he can get 1900 a season, and needs to play another 19 seasons to get to 45K - which puts him at age 43....

Luka is the only person in the league with a chance, but I think Jmxyhighroller did a video about it and I’m pretty sure he’s off pace compared to LeBron by a good amount. Plus Luka has had issues with injuries. I think he’s played 70+ games in a season 1x(his rookie season) and every other season he’s played 60-69 games a season. Say what you want about LeBron and load managing/resting, but he played 70-82 games every year besides one(2011 lockout and he still played all 62) until he got to LA.

To me even if someone breaks the scoring record, you probably still won't have more total points. It's just insane. When he retires, he will slowly start over taking Jordan as everyone #1.

25:21 Yes there is a team that can beat those warriors or your shit ass lucky cavs. WTF kind of statement is that? No there wasn't a roster in an NBA team that could beat that warriors team that year, but we're talking about the entire WORLD. If you can handpick a bunch of players, there is a good probability can beat any team. NBA is the best league, true, but Noah's argument is not anymore ludicrous than theirs for them to scoff at him. Calling yourself a world champ, without it being a world contest is kinda strange. I understand the reasoning. But they need to stfu with the hubris. Also Having the best individual talents and having the best team are two separate things. Fiba bronze medal game had 19 nba players participating. The gold medal game had 7 nba players in rotation.

Yes it will. Why? The NBA will take more and more defense out of the game. Let's be honest, Bron is amazing, but he does not break the record in the 80's and 90's. Not because he is not great, but they would not have let him score the type of baskets he got. Also there will be even better Mexican supplements that will allow future players to play until they are 45 at the top level. What? You don't actually think he is not taking performance enhancing drugs. Of course he is folks. So as less defense is played and better drugs are invented his record will be broken. Let's face it, he does not touch the record if Jordan took massive amounts of PED's and played for 25 yrs. What if Jordan blew his knee out and went straight to another country to have procedure's done that are not legal in U.S.

The issues with trying to compare past eras with current ones or future ones is the fact that rules change but so does lifestyles and technology. you could even argue the competition is a lot better. I mean, a lot of pros back in the day had regular jobs... It's just odd ppl still try to bring up stuff like so & so couldn't do it in this or that era, because the past is the past and you gotta stop trying to live there.

Lebron got y’all thinking what he’s doing is normal. I highly doubt there is going to be another player that is lucky enough to avoid injury and play at an elite level for 20+ years.

@@jaydot4956 People just keep trying to create ways to hate or bring others down. I'm not saying all the haters don't respect Lebron. People are so delusional about past eras and think ppl didn't take PEDs back in the day. Besides I think Lebron would do just as good if not better in other era's where he could use his body and size more.

I don’t agree that LBJ wouldn’t have the same success because if you remember: LBJ came into the NBA in 2003… The Malice in the Palace FIST FIGHT happened in 2004! LBJ is the only active player from that overlapped generation of tough ball and still started over 20ppg. If frame and conditioning would have made him just as tough. Jordansexuals and trolls don’t appreciate that yes he flops but, he literally have played more minutes than almost ANY PLAYER in NBA history with high production.

This record is more a testament to the watering down of talent with expansion teams and weakening the rules to precipitate the next Jordan. Lebron is an all time great playing in the weakest era the league has ever known. Post AND1 NBA is a lesser sport and this is why you can't compare eras. Lebron wouldn't touch 30k if he played in the bird/magic/Jordan era.
