Reaves’ skillset is not as close to Knecht’s as you might think, plus he might be the most untouchable guy on the roster. You’d need a hell of a star and a trade on favorable terms to the Lakers to move him because his contract is a bargain value wise. People have been trying to get AR for a while now and the FO is still super high on him

He will be a good coach. But unless he wins a championship, people like you will say he is a failure.

The problem is Jeanie who would hire them in the first place to be in positions of influence because she prefers to hire people she is already familiar with like Magic, the Rambises, Rob Pelinka (Kobe's agent) instead of just hiring the most qualified people. She runs the Lakers like a small family business. When she and Phil were together, they had a power struggle with Jerry West and they basically booted West from the Lakers. And then the Lakers released a pathetic tribute when West passed, who was responsible for so much of their franchise success as a player and GM. Jeanie needs to sell the team.

Lakers "consistency" is being in NBA finals in every decade since the 1940s and winning a title in every decade since the 1940s except 1960s and 1990s. Now stop pretending to be a Laker fan, asses your franchise and try not to get depressed.

Insane is way too strong a word. The dude has 15 years of NBA experience, let’s not dismiss that by saying he only coached kids and did a podcast. He’s not some dummy off the streets. Sure he’s new at managing a whole team and a staff, but the most important thing has to be the basketball aspect and he clearly has that covered.

And Doc, who knows what he was doing for the few years in between. Mark Jackson was also far more seasoned as an analyst.

@@Nawalta If we go from 1980, looking at the list below, there have been 3 coaches (now 4 with JJ) with no NBA executive or coaching experience that went from playing to coaching...There have been around 370-400 NBA head coaches during that same stretch...Insane might be strong, definitely well outside the norm.

They just need some solid rotation players. They just got a steal in Dalton Knecht. They are a championship contender heading into the season with some rotation players who fit better.

They have a chance but a lot of luck would be needed if they don’t make changes

just need two-three solid wings and a reliable big man that can take pressure off AD by rebounding and playing with energy and blocking shots. 2 wings that can shoot and play great D. Gonna be hard to find tho.

Dalton Knecht should be able to earn some mins. That being said, they’ll need some more 2-way guys. I assume JJ will play Vando more than Ham did too. Gabe should be healthy also, and you know JJ will have some plays drawn up to get those shooters shots.
