You haven't learned the lesson, and no, we may not go extinct, but we will not be the dominate species. The cycle 1- growth, 2- saturation, 3- extinction, 4- evolution. Evolution happens during an extinction event. That is why there is a variety of life, and not just a primordial ooze.
