Even if money is spent correctly, it can not bring happiness to all people. If a person is unhappy and suffering, due to many reasons (mental disorders, disability, loss of loved ones, etc.), money will not bring him happiness even if he spends it correctly.

For example, paying for a therapist who can help you navigate life through the pain, donating to charity when you realize there are others suffering more than you, setting up a foundation in honor of a lost loved one. It's really sad, but those who don't have enough money cannot afford to do these things. There's always prayer, though, which is a powerful, powerful thing (and is free!).

My mother once told me that the more things one has , the more one has to maintain. This i understand as having to watch over them because if you don’t sometimes other people or circumstances will find a way to make you part with them. This causes anxiety. The best I can expect of having enough money is that it may give enough independence to help myself or others in times of need or emergencies. There is a theory in managing people that paying them more does not make them happy, but paying them less than they think they should be paid (or need to be paid to live) will definitely make them unhappy. They call it a "hygiene factor", meaning you have to maintain a certain level of income to not be unhappy, but that more income doesn't make you happy. I have always found this concept useful. Our wants expand to meet our income, so if your goal is freedom, the wise path is to limit your wants.

Great video! Thank you for posting this fantastic content. I have often contemplated whether money can buy happiness and the answer I have so far come to is, yes it can. The problem lies in the semantics of the word happiness. I believe we confuse happiness and joy. Happiness is brief and fleeting whereas joy is an inner peace that lasts. Money can buy many experiences and possessions that can bring much happiness but it cannot buy inner peace and joy. This comes from elsewhere, a place where money is not the currency or has the power to provide. Joy and peace are on a deeper spiritual level beyond happiness which is more concerned with fleeting emotions, thoughts and physical feeling and experience. So yes, money can buy happiness if it is spent well, but if you desire true inner peace and joy then you need to be looking elsewhere to find it.

Being content with the way things are is definitely something money can buy, I couldn't be content with being broke and homeless. I've come to the same conclusion recently. Like to know how to spend money and to know what one really needs. I disagree. Money isn't always freedom. It greatly depends on the person's character & their use of money. Often times many people allow the money to control them & their actions, thus becoming slaves to the almighty dollar. Rich people are often greedy & unsatisfied with their wealth, being unable to satiate their incessant vain desires. In that case, money is the exact opposite of freedom. It becomes a detrimental tool of self enslavement. Also money doesn't give you the power to do whatever you want whenever you want. I couldn't disagree more with this shallow, toxic mentality. This is exactly the problem with our vain, entitled society; thinking we can just do what we want or throwing money at problems. Forbes' views seriously lack some very important nuance & context. And it seems completely contradictory to Stoic philosophy as well. Relying on an outside thing like money for your freedom or power is weak & unreliable. Your freedom & power should always come from within, never from external factors like money.

Buying something is giving us "an experience", or if we choose to see what it's giving us. 1. An expensive car - someone would buy it for status and envy, yet if that person see on where it can take you and the freedom it gives you would be the better way. 2. A pricey Rolex - Again it's purchased because you have the means to for status, yet if you see it as a symbol to use your time wisely and value the time you have is key. 3. I just bought an cheaper pair of wireless earbuds, last night. I don't see it as a frugal or worthless venture. It's something that I will use everyday, and give a lot of value to listening to music I enjoy. The things we accumulate are like words, they only hold the value in which we give them.

I think I'm pretty qualified to speak on this topic. I have dedicated the last 9 years of my life, from 26 to 35 to working. In that time I've bought and paid off a car and a house. And am now basically cruising. I've had tons of people tell me it's bad to work so much cuz I miss out on opportunities or experiences or whatever. While yes I didn't go camping or I didn't travel or BBQs with people, but the funny thing is. I never had the desire to do those things in the first place. So did I really miss out on doing things I never wanted to do? I don't think so. And as far as money making me happy? No, money itself doesn't make me happy, it's what having money brings me. Which is security, comfort and peace of mind. I'm happy not having the headache of having to deal with a leaking roof, flat tire, unexpected medical bill, or any other expense. Barring a catastrophic event, in which case money's not gonna matter anyway, I can deal with whatever comes my way. I'm totally happy going to work, going to the gym, working on my house, choosing who I want to hang out with and when I want to hang out. I can't say I'd do anything different if given the chance, it's worked out very well for me.

@yazmeliayzol624 I regret not doing any of the things I mentioned as much as I regret not sucking a dick. I don't regret not doing it. I regret not being smarter with my money. There's I'm not so and healthy. It really does depend on the person. Some people genuinely are happier alone others just say they are, possible because they don't have a choice to be lonely. The only thing I've convinced myself of is that I'm happy the way I am. And that's because I've tried everything else and I didn't like it. Other people are happy going out n drinking and doing all the things I hate, maybe they're compensating for something or maybe they're truly happy. I don't care, all I know is how I feel. and I feel happy, content and comfortable. The way I live my life works for me. I adapted to survive my environment and I also shaped it to my liking.

I honestly believe that money can buy you happiness. With money, you can live comfortably and pursue things you normally wouldn't pursue because you're busy "surviving from paycheck to paycheck". So if you're already rich and you're still sad or depressed, sorry, but that's a "you" problem because you're to weak or lazy to even try/pursue things.

I don't think most wealthy and unsuccessful people are lazy. I think they are just uneducated on how to spend their money and general usage of money that will lead to satisfaction. Whilst they find satisfaction in buying expensive and unnecessary luxury brands they tend to skip on their inner happiness and satisfaction. You do not have to be rich to live a good life, you just need to know how to use your money wisely.

Right, I’d probably still be depressed even with money but I wouldn’t care, knowing I can just attain the bare minimum of what I can’t right now. I see so many vloggers editing their lives with depression, and can’t help but think “must be nice to be sad and live lavishly.” Id rather be sad and rich than sad and disadvantaged, not to say one or the other is better, but I would use my advantage for the bare minimum to feel satisfied

I don't know if money can buy happiness, but I do know that money can reduce unhappiness in my life. At least those who have money should not have to worry about not being able to go to the hospital.
