Oh gosh, I feel your pain James! Maybe there's something in the air. I've lost three rounds of eggs due to them laying on the floor. Broken eggs,, frozen eggs. It's so frustrating. A rack of nice nest boxes and they don't want to use them. Great job on the breeding boxes. Wish you were closer, we could fix you up with a whole bunch of free stuff. I must say, I never had a single problem when my birds were all in individual breeding pens. On a happy note, my RFRP birds are finally sitting on eggs! They have their very own, floor to ceiling penthouse out in the shed. They're calm and happy. Fingers crossed, their young birds will be going to the RGOLF. :)

I don't show my breeders much these days for security reasons, but ALL of my breeding is done in single boxes to prevent fighting and to ensure accurate parentage.

Both of those are wise reasons for individual boxes. Probably wise to not show breeders too. I’ve been thinking about that more lately. Sadly there’s always that possibility of theft.

Try setting your nest box fronts back to the first position so they don't have to fly straight into the box. Then if that naughty 13 still plays up put a clip ring on each leg and tie a piece of string between the two so he trips up a little when he walks, it will solve the problem of him going into other boxes immediately. At the beginning of this breathing season I experienced something very similar with cockfighting ruining my first round of eggs I think next year I’m going exclusively reading pens so I don’t have to deal with that element and also I found one of my hands to be buried promiscuous And I wanna know who my baby daddy are lol I hope you recover from this James and I pray that you have a successful breeding season 2024 also show more the pin the dimensions and everything because I’d like to build one myself while WILLIE was building, one myself, and can use all the ideas as if I’m not a really good carpenterit’s always a pleasure Brother

Problem with the breeding boxes is that if a pigeon enters another box he cannot escape. I remove the shielding when there paired

That sucks, im pretty far behind myself due to a lot of unfertile eggs, this is the main reason I stopped open box breeding with mine to many new pairs an switched matings to take a chance with fighting birds , luckily in the winter time im able to spend alot of time with the birds an let each pair out of their box for an hour individually

I have the same problem as you so I built me seven individual boxes for my breeders. I still breed some in my main loft but like you 50% of the time they fight over the boxes and break the eggs some days old babies also got kill by that this is going to be my last year breeding in my main loft next year year all in the individual boxes. I give you some advice from experience the hawks will get under the breeding boxes and harass your birds and kill your youngsters if they can reach them . I had to cover around the boxes I use the plastic sheeting from Home Depot with the small holes on them and I take them out for cleaning and put them back easy job ,also my shelving a got a curve on them from the birds and all the poop on the top Also I install small doors in the back of the boxes so I have easy access to the nest bowls Good look .

Thanks for sharing your insight! Appreciate that! It is incredible what a determined hawk can do. Early on in pigeons I had a pigeon in an outdoor cage with 1x2" wiring. Somehow, a hawk was able to grab and pull most of that pigeon out that tight space. For this reason, I installed two layers of wire on the floor of the individual breeding pens. The layers are separated by about 1.5 inches. Hopefully that protects the birds inside sufficiently, though I may have to put something along the legs to keep hawks from harassing them.

If you tape rogue birds legs together and put him in nest boxes he isn't supposed to be in and let the birds pick on him for a few minutes he won't go in there any more you might have to do it a few times usually once is all it takes. Sometimes just being in a nestbox hobbled up will keep him from going in there again. You don't happen to have any of the distance blood lines of the pigeons you got from my dad in Orem when you were a teenager?

I might have the same problem. I started breeding early this year and of course put a few new cock birds in my breeding loft just to find out there’s crack eggs and eggs on the floor everywhere. So I had to re separate all my birds and start all over again. SMH Gona be a long year this year.
