I've got a hard time focusing on the voice, I catch myself thinking about something completely unrelated mid hypnotherapy, and generally it doesn't work on me, or hasn't yet

Hi @bright3944 Thank you for watching and your reply. First of all I would like to say that hypnosis (which is really constructive daydreaming) can be experienced by anyone. People with ADHD tend to be quite adept at daydreaming, but with ADHD hypnosis we can make sure that such daydreaming is more focused and constructive. However, hypnosis is a very flexible state of mind and body. Now during hypnosis some level of focus is required, initially in any case, but the beauty of hypnosis is that we do not have to be super focused all the way through> For example, the therapist voice may give a suggestion and we are thinking about something else. That's okay. The human mind naturally has the ability to go off on a tangent, and that may even be part of the process. Sometimes, during hypnosis, there are even techniques encouraging this! Whereby the mind is experiencing what we call "fractionation", which is like multiple levels of experience or contemplation, or thinking about what was said earlier in the hypnosis, trying to "figure out" what the suggestions were implying. However, this is not a problem and in fact can lead to "overload" because the conscious mind is small and cannot process everything that is going on. In other words, we can think plenty in hypnosis about "other things" or even "analyse" the hypnosis to some extent (I know as a hypnotherapist I have a habit of that)and yet hypnosis can still occur as much, if more so. So thinking in hypnosis is not the issue. Neither is thinking about something seemingly irrelevant an issue. Observable or measurable progress, on the other hand, is a different matter, and it's difficult to know why you may not be experiencing what it is that you hoped for unless I had more insight into what you are intending and doing. To perhaps be able to signpost you further on how to experience more benefit with hypnosis, my question would be "how do you know that it isn't working? What would be different if it WAS workING? What would that be like? What would you see, hear or feel, that let's you know that this is working?" Of course I have no idea of what you are doing to not get the results you claim? Feel free to share more information if you wish to so that I may be able to help you improve your results. You may want to do that via this message or email me directly at jamie@hypnosisforadhd.com Finally, I would simply add not to give up! Many decades ago I used to feel the same way about hypnosis but kept it up, and found out why it wasn't working for me, and now it does!

P.S. It has occurred to me that one of the reasons WHY it doesn't seem to work for you currently, is that your understandings of hypnosis (as explained in earlier message) may be holding you back (which is not uncommon) In other words, think of the mind in layers. You give suggestion "I am confident." During hypnosis because you believe e.g. "I have to stay focused on what the hypnotist says and not let my mind wander for this to work" you give yourself a competing message to the subconscious, e.g... "this isn't going to work because I am not focusing enough," or "because I have ADHD" etc... It's like "damn, I think I broke one of the rules, so it's not going to work for me now!" (Note: most of our thoughts and beliefs are SUBCONSCIOUS, so we may not be aware of such however). Many moons ago I used to believe that hypnosis doesn't work for me. In fact I believed I was "cursed" or something. I felt like "Whatever I do it doesn't work for me... I've tried everything..." Another hypnotherapist told me to think of it like peeling back an onion! In other words, instead of doing hypnosis and focusing on "I am confident", I went back a step, a layer down of the "onion..." And started with "Every day in every way I'm noticing that hypnosis can and does work for me." I corrected it at that prior level, that deeper skin of the onion, and then I was able to move from there to experiencing benefit with other topics I wanted to work on. Finally, when clients come to me these days and say "I've tried everything and nothing works... I don't think hypnosis can work for me either..." I will reply... "And you're here for a reason, right?" "Yes." "So I'm wondering why you think this time could be different for you?"

I am diagnosed and pretty certain I have ADHD and I struggle trying out hypno videos. I do focus on the voice, I even drifted off once when I was high (experiment with weed in an attempt to be more suggestible). I also believe I may have some mild aphantasia.

Hi Base Who, thank you for your feedback. In my youth, learning self hypnosis, I was obsessed at learning to visualise because I didn't appear to be good at it. With practise, I managed it. If only I'd known then what I know today. Some people visualise with their eyes open. Ah well, I can now do both. Many people, even encouraged by hypnotherapists, think they can't be hypnotised because they don't visualise. Or have aphantasia. This is not true. Yes, I've had some clients in hypnosis, say "wow I've never been able to visualise before until today." But it's not necessary. Can someone who doesn't visualise /aphantasia still read a book or watch a movie? Yes. So there may be no conscious awareness of internally generated imagery but they still conceptualise the contents. A big component of hypnotic state is language and hypnotic trance can occur with or without visualisation. As for weed, that tends to induce mote theta electrical activity like hypnosis, so in theory could assist suggestion. However, again, I don't think it's necessary. The whole point of effective hypnosis is to induce relaxation and guide the brain into theta activity, which can be achieved without drugs. There are many advantages to this including the avoidance of some of the exacerbation of adhd symptoms that smoking weed can lead to, as well as learning now to enter a daydream state safely by choice. People with adhd are in fact adept at daydreaming. Except that that daydream state is often unfocused. Instead of maladaptive daydreaming ADHD Hypnotherapy teaches those with adhd to utilise the natural ability to daydream which they are already adept at, but to utilise it for the better, I.e. concentrated, solution focused daydreaming which enhances access to one's resources for change. I hope this message is helpful

Hi Blyss Catalyst. I will look into this, and likely I will just have it removed, as I'm not sure it's necessary anyway. But if you have any questions about anything do not hesitate to email me at jamie@addvantagehypnotherapy.co.uk and I will answer you by email in person and/or send you links/info from my site if required. MP Mortensen Thanks for the message. I do not have a video currently on this topic, but it is now top of the list, thank you for asking. For now, here is a short written response I hope you find helpful... Generally speaking, medication can be helpful for many people with ADHD. But about 10-20% cannot take it due to side effects, it is ineffective, or they do not want to take it or give it to their children. That's why we need to be open to other possibilities, including hypnosis, and take an holistic-integrative approach. Even if medication works, taking such an integrative-holistic approach can lead to greater outcomes as much of the research on combination therapy has shown, than medication or other therapies/modalities on their own. And there are many things that medication does not solve, such as comorbid conditions like self esteem issues, anxiety, or poor sleep. I like to think of medication as giving the brain it's much needed "dopamine kickstart", but then the question becomes: "Now you're brain is switched on? What are you going to do with it?" Obviously it can help focus on studies or work, but if due to our condition we've got some catching up to do, it is an opportune time to take advantage of tutoring, or some form of therapy or coaching, that we can now enjoy more benefit from. Combination therapy can also mean lower doses which can mean less side effects, including appetite suppression and weight loss, which is not helpful, particularly for children. Hypnosis is possible with or without medication but medication can certainly help and may lead to even greater success using this modality.

Just do not do the snap in my face as that wakes me up fast out of trance compared to someone without it. lol. Refactorization works best and not breathing in and out as my mind will get more active ... not less

Hi Tim. Thanks for your message. Yes everyone is different. There is no one size fits all. I believe "hypnosis" (which is really adaptive day-dreaming) is something we all experience quite naturally. But to "do it" when you want to, through the process called hypnosis, is about finding what works for you. Thanks for watching - Jamie
