I am not an expert, but maybe you don't need a brain to feel pain? Maybe a plant has a brain but we don't think it is because it does not work the same way.
@fbmhmanchester6 жыл бұрын
You may be right about feeling pain without a brain, but you would then have to define pain differently. Likewise, a “plant brain” that works like ours but looks completely different would probably require a group of cells that is heavily networked and can process signals. Nothing remotely like that has been found in plants, and not for lack of trying. So we can’t think of a plant organ or tissue that would have the information processing capacity of a brain, but maybe we’re not looking in the right place.
@mgabrielle23436 жыл бұрын
You do need a brain and consciousness to feel pain. If you put your finger in a flame, it will hurt you and you would know it is a burning sensation, but if you do happen to cut off your finger in an accident, you could BBQ your finger and you won't feel any pain because finger is no longer connected to your nervous system, and has lost all contact with brain and with your conscious that resides in your brain. (Don't cut your finger to prove this point! ) I was 4 years old when I did my first experiment on feeling pain, my father had a boil on his big toe, he asked my mum to lobe off the top part of the boil and all that puss inside oozed out, she sliced the top of the boil and left at the side, all the while I was watching her do this, she went to get some more cotton wool to clean the wound, in the mean time I picked up that piece of flesh that was top part of the boil, and took it in my mouth and bit it as hard as I could whilst observing my father's face for any reaction, he was not watching me do this, or he would have stopped me I am sure, and I noticed he did not screamed or felt any pain, whereas I thought he might scream mad when I bit into that flesh. But instead it was my mother who screamed mad at me when she realised what i was doing, I had no idea how disgusting and full of germs that bit of flesh I had put in my mouth! this was my first scientific experiment at age 4 and quite a set back as my mother stopped me in my tracks!

I apologise for the extremely late question but I have a question I just want to ask a lot. Is it possible that there exists a nervous system in plants that is entirely different from those of humans and animals but exists. As in how we humans have responses, sense , reactions, thoughts and memories due to our nervous system and the nerve impulses could there be a similar in function but different in composition nervous system for plants ? And what of one that may involve 'voluntary' reactions if it may exist.If this is unlikely to exist then are you implying that plants reaction to stimuli (like in the case of a Venus fly trap, mimosa, the wall nut trees anti competition response etc) function not as a system but a direct impulse between receptor to effector organs (don't know if it's the right word) in a involuntary manner. If humans entire stimulus, sense and nervous system is based on transfer via electrochemical nerve impulse then is it also the same for the plants? (Electrochemical cell impulses?) And lastly in an episode of mythbusters when testing a polygraph machine with leaves the plant responds to 1) physical stimulus 2) mental thought. (Basically he thinks of burning the plant and it reacts) What are your thoughts and opinions on this ^

@mgabrielle23436 жыл бұрын
Glad that you confirmed my own theory that plants cannot feel pain since they do not have a nervous system and a brain, because pain is realised inside your brain, so plants evolved to survive by means of feedback , if for example the roots can't find water in soil, they will grow quickly to find water, sun flower has sensors that will make it face the sunlight, they sense gravity and so know which way is up, but having said this, they actually do not have a gravity sensing but use other senses such as feel air, wet soil, or temperature difference to determine which is up, if a seed starts to germinate downwards, it will soon sense that it is heading into the earth rather than coming out of it up through, by means of temperature difference , plants grow by instructions from DNA, their role is to grow and grow AND send chemical signal for their survival, but they do not have brains to feel pain, we can eat them without any conviction, they are meant to be eaten. Animals are not.
@fbmhmanchester6 жыл бұрын
Plants sense temperature, drought and light, and so do we (and other animals). Because we have evolved separately, the way we sense the environment and respond is slightly different. Occasionally though, similar ‘engineering solutions’ have emerged independently. Some plants are carnivorous and eat animals such as insects, frogs, and mice. And of course im sure you know what a predator is. As far as your personal conviction that is subjective and taught/ an evolved emotional response more or less. A human is omnivorous and can survive eating either.
@mgabrielle23436 жыл бұрын
Let me google to see if jelly fish has any brain and nervous system, I thought they didn't and I was right. I did think they had basic proximity sensors which tells them if they are in danger or an intruder may be around so they could automatically respond to any intruder, just by "cause and action" mechanism or autonomous system of respond . For example if you make simple self drive toy car, you may have given it sensors such that when it sees an obstruction it stops and automatically goes back a short distance and then turns right or left and proceeds and if it sees an obstruction again, it does the same again, and again, and it may even have a light sensor that responds to changing light or shadows and so one can programme it to do whatever when it sees light intensity becoming brighter or dimmers, so this toy car does not have brain or even artificial brian, and cannot feel pain even if it is crushed by anything. so here is the google answer for jelly fish: "jellyfish don't have a brain or central nervous system, they do have a very basic set of nerves at the base of their tentacles. These nerves detect touch, temperature, salinity etc. and the jellyfish reflexively respond to these stimuli.most likely they don't have but work on senses (proximity senses) when a predator is near they release defensive mechanism, autonomous system

I don't think anyone can eat any tree if at all, but we can eat its fruits, and may be bark, etc, but certainly not a whole tree. Sir J. C. Bose, the Indian Scientist worked on "life in plants in 1902.Bose strongly believed that plants had a sensitive nervous system, not unlike that of animals, and that their responses to external stimuli could be measured and recorded. His belief was strengthened by the results of his experiments. Encouraged by the results of this experiment, Bose began studying how plants behave differently under different environmental factors such as temperature, chemicals, electricity, gases and humidity. The more responses he got from his plants, the more detailed his efforts became. Bose was astounded to discover that an electric death spasm occurs in plants when they die, and that the actual moment of death in a plant could be accurately recorded. As he later wrote: “All around us, the plants are communicating. We just don’t notice it.” Determined to reveal the wonders of plant perception to the world, Bose described his experiments and their results in his 1902 paper,” Responses in the Living and Non-Living”. He wrote how plants grew more quickly when exposed to nice music and gentle whispers, and poorly when exposed to harsh music and loud speech. He even mentioned how plants became depressed when exposed to polluted air and darkening skies. In short, his work showed that plants could feel pleasure and they could feel pain. Ask someone else about the gut brain or the nerve system elsewhere in the body and try to incorporate that info in. The definition of brain gets less certain in those discussions. Lol If worried about plant pain being a reason not to eat them I think that's unrealistic. The ecosystem never cared about this. In fact it's encouraged because of a need to clean up and keep life cycles healthy. It's humans that don't know what to do with waste, not nature. Some plants react to being cut to stimulate new growth and so like sheep now some grow so much through that evolution they need regular trimming. It's the plants facing a crisis that are more likely to arm themselves, like the grass did all those years ago when bovine nearly ate it into extinction. Now we have grass that can shred your insides if you eat it. This doesn't even mention the plants that can eat meat. Lol Even some plants refused veganism. Go figure. Point is don't feel guilty. It's just good if we can be aware of the overall system we impact. Most creatures don't get to experience that awareness, so we're lucky to witness wonders.

I've a question. Plants don't have brain. We have brain. And we know that the most of the works in our body happens in the command of brain. So, how trees grow? How does it grow in the direction of light? What thing stimulates it? If you say It's DNA. Then why can't we say that plants feel nature and pains through DNA?

we don't feel things through DNA. we don't need a brain or any thinking power to grow, digest things, have a pumping heart, and fight infections. All cells have a set of commands automatically triggered by strings of glucose attached to peripheral receptor proteins.

I am a proud supporter of vegetarianism and Veganism and personally feel that they get a very bad rap despite them doing nothing wrong. I can’t help but look at Plants not only from a Scientific perspective but also a philosophical and ethical point of view. Comparing an animal to a plant 🌱 is an unfair comparison because, the twos biology differs greatly. While perhaps in a way trees don’t feel pain the same way that animals and humans do I personally still believe that trees are aware of what happens to them. I love trees 🌳 I have done since I was a kid and I even used to talk to them because no one seemed to care about them but me. I also love animals tbh I love both plants 🌱 and Animals more than humans (not because I believe humans are unimportant) but because we are a very ignorant and arrogant species. Plants are one of the most important parts of the ecosystem without them we would live in even harsher conditions. I value all life regardless of its intelligence or it’s species. Animals are also harmed in the long run by plant 🌱 consumption and deforestation because many animals live in these natural environments so again they are very important to our ecosystem. I try to look after them as much as I can because they are a strong symbol of nature, we as humans have a responsibility to reduce the amount of Animals and plants that we kill on a daily basis to cut down carbon omissions and save our planet 🌎, learning to finally coexist with life on this planet in peace ☮️ and harmony. Please try to be as echo friendly as you can. All it takes is one person to make a difference xx

I think "plants don't feel pain because they have no brain" depends on what we regard as pain. In terms of evolution, pain is a stress signal to alert us of potential danger that could harm us. Plants have that. There are plants that release certain chemicals when in danger. They don't have to say "ouch" for us to know they're in pain.. to a plant, that chemical response is ITS PAIN. Nature isn't centered around human biology.

Eating meat is wrong for humans fir sure because animals feel pain but humans are omivores which means we can survive by consuming non meat biological material. We have been blesses with a choice. Animals or plants. We're not cursed like carnivores who have to murder of animals in order to survive just to murder another day. If you truly want to avoid causing another creature pain in this world, stop worring about weather your gunna hurt a plant or not and instead become a non meat eater. You'll feel spiritually terrific for the choice in each passing day. There are a great number of plants out there that want fauna to eat parts of them like apple trees for example. Human eats apple from tree, then poops somewhere in the wilderness thus planting seeds in a new location because seeds are designed to survive the digestion process. Bats in South America spread plant seeds all over the place because the seeds survive in their poop. Evolution has found ways to spread their plant kin far and wide to ensure survival. Being Vegetarian is a great way to live. Feels absolutely wonderful to follow the Vegetarian path.
@misterauctor7353 Жыл бұрын
Eating meat is right. Evolution says so.
@RighteousnessWillPrevail Жыл бұрын
@@misterauctor7353 Actually evolution says we are not. Because if you for example eat Pig's, Cows, Chickens Raw and plenty of other Fauna. You will either get very sick or die. And we don't have hunting teeth. There's your proof. We only eat meat because we cheat evolution by using fire or extreme heat to cool the flesh to make it safe and digestible for our weak stomachs and frail immune systems. The truth is is that the human race is actually getting weaker against the natural world because we keep inventing new medicines and technologies to help fight off dangerous bacteria ect. But in doing so, we don't allow are bodies to naturally adapt to the harshness of the natural world. If you keep a ridiculously clean house and stay there often, you increase your chances of getting sick becsuse you make your immune system lazy and undisciplined. The more luxurious of pleasantries we indulge in and the longer we do in life. The more and more we lose disapline. That's why when people live in times of peace, they develop weaker willpower and disapline. Same goes for sickness. You have to purposely expose yourself to suffering and harshness in order to keep a strong body and spirit.
