When I did 15K across SEA, it dawned on me quickly that I wouldn't enjoy a single moment if I focused on my end destination... and a lovely man in Cambodia said to me to relax, and in his broken English - "Step by step, my friend" - he really blew my mind with such simple words, but it's such solid advice in not only practical terms, but spiritual too, you cannot enjoy anything if your mind is too far ahead!

You made it Mr. Kino. Congratulations! NEVER EVER tell anyone it is your first time in the country. Never let anyone "show you" the way. Unfortunately, in another country, some friends learned the hard way and were robbed. Try to always make your bookings beforehand and not in remote areas. Sadly, in some countries, when some of the locals see a "tourist" they expect you to be rich. They don't realize takes tourists years to save for that one trip and they are on a budget. You were possibly correct of those young kids, though not sure of their intentions, they might have been "told" to take you to a remote room/board and your items could have disappeared in the night, along with other items.

The boys are not slammers, they are business middlemen. You needed accommodation for the night. They knew where you could get one. They showed you where to find one. You have to pay them for their service, just like you pay an estate agent for finding accommodation for you. They don't need to tell you that they are providing a service to you. Locals will know that the boys need to be paid after running so hard for you. It is simply an unwritten rule.

Your instincts are right, you learn fast. There are lots of ungrateful and predatory beggars in Namibia. Unsolicited help from sketchy people is a red flag. Refuse because its not genuine help, but a way to scam or get money out of you. Just look at the number of people defending those kids. Someone even says they should been paid for running around. Thats narcissistic entitled behaviour. What next? People will start asking payment for asking directions or talking to them. Only ask help from security guards, shop/hotel employees and other decent looking people who aren't desperate or sketchy. If you live in Namibia for a long time, you will understand why. They start out like innocent people in need, but as time passes you will notice they are predatory sociopathic beggars. Its really a shameful culture which has been cultivated in Namibia over time. Prioritizing beggars over customers and taxpayers.

I think he must keep his bike after his adventure and all his travel belongings so his children and grandchildren can treasure those moments .... I think this will be close to his heart forever and his generation and family❤ Yve can maybe write books about his journey and make a living as an investment Not sell his precious bike that is a precious memory close to his heart.... In my opinion.....❤
