Always enjoy your informative episodes. Your suggestion of adding some welding beads to the K frame makes alot of sense.... Mopar notes in their Police car literature that " additional hand arc welding" is done on the assembly line to police and taxi application K members.

For sure,run a few beads on the shitty seams. Call it a day. Great idea on the hardener!

I'd like to say that it was my idea, but I am glad that I ran across it.

I gave up blasting. Now I use Phosphoric acid from the hardware store. I keep the part wet for a couple hours,and it removes rust,and neuttralizes whats left.

That's some good stuff for sure. Good and nasty.

What do you mean the part wet With the acid put it on more
@Chuck_House_of_Mopar3 күн бұрын
@@toru_rose6564 He probably either mists it with a squirt bottle or less likely, he submerges it. From what I understand, you have to use baking soda to neutralize.

Wet blasting is the way to go on that k member... I did my 72 darts k member a 74 spool mount one first of course I completely reinforced it in all critical areas boxed in and lower pivots welded... Rustolem is an excellent budget friendly choice using enamel hardener will produce a very tough finish...treating the bare k frame with phosphoric acid and then self etching primer and coating in rustolem will do a great job my k frame has been on years still looks freshly done.

Good point, I'll add it to the list of things to try.

Very nice, beats my spray bomb efforts. Wait, did I miss something in the past here? Did I hear you say the cars' name is "The Storm"? On to the next step! - Ed on the Ridge

Hey Ed, this is the K frame for the race car. The Illinois Storm, whenever I get around to working on that.

Ahh, the $9.99 harbor freight gun. Majic makes a clear coat for the oil base tractor paint. Supposedly, the clear coat will help the oil base paint resist fading, just in case you want to try painting Thelma.

Thelma, there's a thought.

You must be very good at holding your breath while painting with no respirator.
