For gaming I use my Steel Series Arctis Pro Wireless, or if I'm just listening to Spotify or watching KZbin videos sometimes I'll use a JBL Charge 3 Bluetooth speaker that I happened to already have. I have it wired up to my Arctis Pro DAC so it automatically receives audio from my PC when my headset is turned off. My motherboard also has Bluetooth so sometimes I will use a cheap pair of Bluetooth earbuds for watching KZbin, etc.

I was so happy to see the next generation of G7 monitors come out with a flat screen instead of a curve. Then I saw that it was just a normal IPS panel. I'd been hoping that they would finally be bringing their high-speed VA panel tech to the world of non-curved screens. But nope. No contrast for me.

Hey, love the monitor reviews. There's one additional thing I'd like to see: something for scale. You can't really make out the scale through a screen and when you guys show it on a plain white table, it's kinda hard to guess how big it is for someone who doesn't come into touch with monitors all that often. It would be really nice if you could put something like a Corsair 4000D next to it. Or better yet, an entire setup. Computer, mouse, keyboard, mousepad. It would make picking out monitor sizes so much easier. Thanks

I personally don't know how large Corsair 4000D is so it would be meaningless for me to see a monitor placed next to it. It's easier to just look up actual product dimensions online and just measure if I'm curious, but I do understand that having a full setup around the monitor would give better perspective.

Yeah I had 2 g7 32” monitors both with dead pixels brand new and Samsung wouldn’t warranty them because I got them on Amazon from 3rd party that was out of stock now and stated it had less than 30 days left on the manufacturer warranty do to manufacture date of serial number. Sent them back. Liked them other than the dead stuck pixels. Just ordered the g70a for 650usd hopefully it’s good no blb or bad pixels

@@MaxPotatoesLucky I have it too, but in order for me to replace this monitor I'd need it to either be 240Hz w/displayport 2.0 or a 27" 144 Hz OLED with sub 1 ms response times. My eyes can really tell that although the response times are already pretty low compared to other monitors out there, things as simple as texts on windows become blurry to the point of being illegible when you move the window in mild speeds. We need better response times still.

Just to clarify HDMI 2.1 port bandwidth requirements. Tim mentioned that 40 Gbps is enough for this 4K/144Hz panel. This is only true for 8-bit signal RGB or 10-bit with less than RGB or with DSC. 40 Gbps port is required for 4K/120 10-bit RGB (such as the one on Xbox SX console) and 48 Gbps port is required for native 4K/144Hz 10-bit RGB images. 40 Gbps port is fine if the panel has no native 10-bit image and uses dithering. Moving from 120Hz to 144Hz in 4K 10-bit panels requires additional 8 Gbps of data. Another thing to clarify is whether 4K/144Hz is supported both over DP and HDMI ports or just over DP port? Current official HDMI 2.1 specification does not allow for 4K/144Hz, unless manufacturers have added this custom resolution/refresh rate in monitor's EDID. Please clarify. It has usually been the case that DP port supports higher refresh rates due to this HDMI limitation.

Micro led, which is the real competitor to OLEDs, are many times more expensive than any other display type. So it really depends which HDR standard are you referring to here.

Once I have tasted OLED in a Gigabyte gaming laptop, it is just hard to go back to IPS panels. The black in OLED is really black because it has no backlight. Mini LED display on a Macbook Pro is still behind the OLED panel in color reproduction.

@@nialmurphy9622 the monitor? Yea it is still my main for gaming and working well. It has a quirk. Sometimes I turn off the monitor manually while the PC is on. When turning it back on, it ocassionally doesnt connect to the signal properly and black screens. Simple hold power button, wait 5 secs, turn back on to fix, but thats the only issue I have had.

Good to see you got a unit with good uniformity. I won't be buying a new monitor until there are self-emitting pixel panels (OLED, QD-OLED, microLED, self-emitting QD - whatever). I'm sick of backlight bleeding / IPS glow lottery. Also, while many manufacturers proudly advertise high contrast, they totally ignore people who like to watch movies or work in dimly lit environments, thus many monitors have too high minimal brightness setting. Recently I saw a Dell UltraSharp display for 1000$. Should be professional quality, right? Well, it had bad backlight uniformity on white background, and also the blacks were gray and dirty, much worse than on my old cheaper IPS monitor. Only NEC and Eizo are acceptable but still not as good as OLEDs.

I own a g5 It’s 32 inch curved 144hz , I run it at 120hz It’s nice! But only DP 1.3 And not even hdmi 2.0 much less 2.1 but for me I truly love it! I’d buy another someday With 1.4 DP And 2.1 hdmi My screen was perfect on this monitor but on a Samsung tv we own Screen has defection in areas. One of the best quality ive seen in a while, awesome! great video, I was almost clicking buy on this monitor to use with a ps4 pro 4k at 60hz and windows 4k at 60hz and mac 4k at 60hz hdr (a dodgy usbc to hdmi 2.1 may make it higher) and your in depth testing may have revealed this monitor may not be best for my use case as didnt realise it runs better at higher refresh rates!

@@glow4417 good to know, so I'll get a 27" with 1440p I guess but cannot decide which one. I went to get the M27Q but a lot of negative reviews on Amazon. I know Tim really recommended it and it trust him to the end of the line. But so many hardware issues according to the reviews and bad support from Gigabyte. It's really getting frustrating lol. I have 3090 but stuck with a basic 22" 1080p 60hz it has great colors but that's it. I might just call it a day and get BenQ zowie DyAc+ with it's all bad coloring and viewing angle or not buy anything at all lol. I'm really having a headache because of this for the last month. Ok I have ordered the new PC parts. New mouse, keyboard, case Thermaltake Core P3 ATX Tempered Glass, motherboard Asus TUF Z690-Plus WiFi, CPU 12700K, PSU RM 1000x, RAM Crucial Ballstix Max 4400 CL19, and cooler Noctua chromax. The only thing left is the monitor. I decided to get 4k 144hz now I'm puzzled whether to go with the G70A or the M28U. They both are at the same price for me. I was about to get the M28U but then I saw a review saying despite the better specs on paper for the M28U, the G70A feels smoother and more responsive while gaming on RTX GPU. And now back to square 1 🤦🏻. I really cannot decide 😂. I have 3090, I know that both works fine regarding VRR on both but.... I'm reaching out for help.

I just bought this monitor and ran into a bunch of problems with it. It turns out that Samsung rushed the firmware and the EDID values are totally wrong in PC mode. Make sure you use AV mode and everything should work properly. If you are adventurous, you can use CRU to copy those values to PC mode.

When i record gameplay, using this monitor with HDR turned on on windows 10, the footage becomes useless, extremely oversaturated. The only way i can get somewhat normal image quality is by turning windows 10 HDR off and record, which is a bummer. Also, i cant use the DP cable because when i record gameplay using nvidia experience using the DP cable, i dont get image, only get audio...

I think it is a bit weird choice to lock overdrive setting. While similar level of overshoot on my monitor is usually not noticeable at 60fps, there are cases where it is extremely noticeable... I do think this is a quality control issue, because it will not allow you to use better mode when needed if overshoot is noticeable (if monitor actually has better mode without VRR).

i love my Odyssey G7 28 1440p 240hz. and never had any issue with it. personally i would wait for their new QD oled panel.

Bought the “original” G7 - 32”. Love it. Best screen I’ve ever had. Not at all disappointed with the 1440p resolution as I specifically went for that resolution as I feel 4k is still too tough on the graphics card.

I disagree with your pov about backlight strobing in general. It's not simply worse than you describe it to be. You actually gain a lot of clarity with backlight strobing and get rid of most of blurriness. For me a blurry picture is much worse than very small ghosting images.

I bought this monitor around Black Friday for $550 USD. Took about a month to arrive. Before I had a 1440p 144hz ASUS TN panel I purchased in 2016 for $350. This one feels like a nice step up from that. Really enjoy the added clarity in games. But I haven’t been WOWed by it. Though I could never go back to a lower resolution. The only other screen in my house is my 65” Q90R QLED from Samsung which I bought in 2019. If only they could shrink that display into a 28 inch monitor lol. It’d be perfect. I’m also not a fan of this display not having any sort of built in speaker. Sometimes it’s nice to not need to wear headphones when watching a KZbin video or something. But that’s my only real complaint for the monitor. Also, the RGB light in the back can sync to the colors on the display, though it seems to only replicate the color in the direct center point of your display and not the color covering the majority of the screen unfortunately. So for example if you’re playing a level of Doom that’s red everywhere, but you’re looking at a blue light, it’s going to light up blue instead of red. Which I think is a negative. Would rather that color replicate the mood of the scene overall. Not just one point on the screen.

I've given up on monitors. I'm sticking with my old Dell s2716dgr 1440p 144hz with gsync module. I've tried monitors with freesync and I really dislike the couple second black screen depending on if vrr is used or not for certain apps. Though maybe those qd oleds will be worth it.

I bought one of these in November. I got a stuck pixel about 2 weeks ago and Best Buy is exchanging it tomorrow. Be careful when buying this monitor cause Samsung won't cover just 1 stuck pixel in their warranty.

I'd like you to give a better report of viewing angles, otherwise I still need to hope rtings have reviewed the monitor to have a comprehensive understanding of the performance. I used to think that all IPS have great viewing angles, but since I've bought LG's nano panels I've found that isn't always true.

Odyssey G7 S28 4K 144Hz 28" vs Sony X930E 4K 60Hz 65" Contrast 1000 : 1 = 5,744 : 1 Brightness (Peak) 400 = 1,442 cd/m² I guess it highly depends on what you need. Competitive gamers might want to sit at a desk, have 1ms and 144Hz, but gamers who just want to enjoy singleplayer and graphics are much better off with a TV setup. At least I feel really comfortable on my couch. :) Everyone should get what they like. There is advantages and disadvantages to each and every screen. Thank you Hardware Unboxed for always testing stuff.

I fear you've left an item off of the HUB Essentials Checklist. Does the monitor have the word "NVIDIA" plastered across the front of it? If so, then it's a massive fail and the monitor isn't worth buying. That piffle aside, the check list is an awesome idea. Thanks for taking the extra time to produce it.

I have the new G5 1440p , best panel I used, zero backlight bleed which is usually a prob with IPS. No idea about response times etc.. and to be honest don't really care , picture looks great and performs well.

28 inches doesn't really NEED a curve. But I would've liked to see a 32 inch 4K 144hz with the 1000R curve. I have the 32 inch 1440p 240hz G7 and it is absolutely amazing. I love the curve, and it is much needed at 32 inches as it helps the screen wrap around you in a very subtle way. My only complaint is that at 32 inches 1440p is being stretched too thin. They did announce the new world's first 4K 240hz, curved at 32 inch which is insane. But will have an insane price tag, I'm sure. I will start saving up now because I want it and is all I will need for a loooong time.

Have you experienced any ghosting on G7 1440p 240hz? I'm stuck between 4k144 IPS and 1440p240hz VA panel. I'm using LC27CHG70 Samsung monitor, its panel is VA and has terrible ghosting. So knowing if 240hz VA Panel G7 has ghosting or not will be decide maker for me

I own the original G7 and once you get past the curvature it's a pretty stellar monitor overall. I never expeirenced the stutters and glitches many spoke of when it was first released. And in my experience it's performed excellently at 240hz in all of the FPS/BR games I play with great response time and very little, if any, noticeable motion blur! I'm coming from a 1080p 240hz Viewsonic Elite XG270 which has some of the best blur-reduction on the market and just wanted to make the switch up to 1440p without losing the framerate and for a VA panel I think the G7 did/does an excellent job of that!? It was a toss-up between the G7 or the Asus XG27AQM (I tried both) and for the cost, I just couldn't justify the Asus over the Samsung. Now, when the prices come down a bit, I think Fast-IPS panels will be undeniably BETTER options, however, with the market in it's current state they just don't make sense.

You probably never experienced the stutters and glitches because you had the updated firmware. Others who had this issue could just update their firmware. It was mostly related to GSync/FreeSync. Also IPS really suffer with contrast and IPS glow. Which is why a VA panel is nice however a lot of VA panels struggle with ghosting and motion blur. Fortunately the Odyssey G7 doesn't have those issues.
