Just been having a look at the history of the actual 7th fusiliers, rather interesting If we were to say that the regiments where named upon a historical basis (regiments in the British army didn't have names until late 1800s/early 1900s), the 7th regiment of foot (the royal fusiliers) where in action from the English civil War up until 1968. During the napolionic wars the regiment fought at the subsequent engagements: Battle of Copenhagen (1807), the capture of Martinique (1809), battle of talavera (1809, in sharpe the infamous battle where he captured an Eagle), Battle of Bussaco (1810), Battle of Albuera (1811). In 1812 the regiment (of two battalions) was at the sieges of Ciduad Rodrigo and Badajoz, and at the battle of Salamanca in the summer. In 1813 it was at Vittoria and the battle of the pyrenees. In 1814 the 7th was at Orthez and the final action for the regiment (in the napolionic wars) was in April 1814 at the Battle of toulouse. This was the final action in the peninsular war and forced the abdication of Napoleon. The 7th did not take part in any further battles against napoleon, and were not at Waterloo as they were sent to Canada to fight against the USA in the war of 1812. The regiment had 2 battalions during the peninsular war, the second of which was disbanded at the end of the war (before napoleon's 100 days). From what I can find there is no given reason as to why this happened, so perhaps the battalion of the 7th in this battle, and the disgrace Assquith brought upon the regiment got the 2nd Battalion disbanded! Loved this video and thought it would be nice too weave this into the real history of the Fusiliers. Hope someone finds this interesting!!

It’s funny how you mentioned Le sharpé. After Theresa is killed sharpe settles in France and married a French women and has kids. In Bernard cornwells (author of sharpe) ‘starbuck’ series which is based in the American civil war, there is a French colonel of the imperial guard who is sent as a obersever and ends up befriends the main character Starbucks. It is heavily implied in the series that this is sharpes son. He is said to carry a big Calvary sword ( like sharpe) and that his father was an English rifle man who married a French women but he took his mothers name.

34:40 To be more specific, these cavalryman were not French dragoons, but Polish Vistula Uhlans (they can be recognized by their characteristic cap - rogatywka), it was one of the best cavalry regiments of Napoleonic wars. British infantry had unpleasant encounter with them during battle of Albuera. I can imagine that this cavalryman who knocked down the main characters, is an experienced soldier who has been almost constantly in combat since the Polish-Russian War in 1792. Great gameplay btw, I hope that it isn't end of Sharpe's story on your channel.

@@ogremark5 tbf that got better after the first series, though obviously was never near the numbers real battles then were. Talaveria was awful in series one, not surprised Sharpe captured the Eagle, he only had to fight a handful of extras and maybe a stuntman. Tell you what always felt a lot better was Hornblower. Somehow just felt like the battles in that seemed less CLEARLY limited by budget. Would be great to see a similar show now given how much cheaper the mix of practical and CG effects would be even on a TV budget to make it look a lot more epic.

It was a brilliant series. The first series was a little ropey budget wise, with the exception of 'Sharpe's Gold' which was fukin awful, every episode was a banger. If you enjoy it check out Hornblower next :)

Like my mum says as well it's Sean Bean for the girls and War for the boys like myself, great series we even say quotes from Sharpe sometimes.
