Can/Should you convert a Glock to shoot calibers? (.40 S&W, .357 Sig & 9mm)

Due to a comment on a recent video I wanted to share my thoughts on why you should not shoot 9mm through a converted .40 caliber Glock.

You can shoot a 9 thru a 40 with a conversion barrel all day as long as you put a glock 19 magazine in the 40 without any issues. I have fired over 500 rounds without any hiccups

I do it on my M&Ps. I have 2 40 with conversion barrels. I use 9mm mags when the barrels are in. Works great. It's nice to be able switch in the case of ammo running out. You should pick one up and try it.

I converted my g23 to 9mm. I just bought a g19 complete slide. It was trivial to swap and well worth being able to shoot the much cheaper 9mm

It will work but in some pistols the angle of the ejector being different may lead to eject issues

Great video. The only caliber swap I do is with my Glock 32 (.357 Sig). I have a KKM G23 barrel (.40) (in case I can never find or afford .357 Sig ammo any longer.). With my Glock 22 and 23 Gen 5’s, I would NEVER convert them to shoot 9mm, because that just makes the gun UNRELIABLE as this video nicely pointed out. There’s more parts that need to be swapped out in addition to the barrel. I say, just go out and buy a new gun in the damn caliber one wants, without Frankensteining your .40 down to 9mm.

Great comment and I agree. I also understand why people do it. It's cheaper to buy a barrel than a whole gun. But there are sacrifices.

I converted my .40 to 9mm I bought everything from scratch on the slide The puppy works fine Infact the pressures are much lower than it’s intended so the gun hasn’t blended or anything Also DO NOT DO THE REVERSE IT WILL MESS UP YOUR GUN

Yes, you can. .40 and .357 use all the same parts except for the barrel.

I’ve been shooting 9mm on my g23 for years, i just put the 9mm conversion barrel and that’s it… everything is the same factory

Except for the ejector. A .40 and 9mm ejector have a slightly different shape.

With the ejector being good for 40 but bad for 9mm, wouldnt it be more compatible to convert 9mm to 40? Not that anyone would do that :D

Maybe. But with the ejector now closer to where the primer is you my get a primer strike when you are extracting a live round.

Also have to use caution ejecting a live round the 9mm ejector is close to the primer if your using g22 on a 9mm lower

My Gen 4 unmodified 9mm Glocks have weak and erratic ejection, even bouncing off the top of my head. I think the .40 ejector with the 9mm is a non-issue since the 9mm ejection sucks anyway.

I disagree the ejector is fine from .40 to 9 the extractor is a part you need to change... best bet to convert .40 to 9mm is to buy a G17 full upper and use it on a G22 complete frame. DO NOT BUY A G22 UPPER AND TRY TO USE IT ON A G17 FRAME... THIS IS WHERE THAT SLIGHT BEND WILL BECOME AN ISSUE... potential risk while cycling live ammo that's not expended. That 9mm ejector is bent and could possibly strike the primer cap as the round is exiting the ejector port 😳 stay safe out there
