@@LinkEX It's actually perfect. Most women bleach their hair these days, having naturally blonde hair is actually not as common as people think. That is simply not true. No factual basis at all. You shouldnt go around saying "facts" you hear online or come up with just because they sound about right, thats what kids do. Most likely the blonde = dumb is based on social things like blonde people being rarer, therefore more "attractive" and unique. And attractive women are generally considered dumber. Brains vs beauty has been a thing for a long time. Also the whole blondeness being associated with youth, and perhaps most importantly, women who would bleach their hair clearly cared more about their appearance and strived for a certain look (think Marilyn Monroe), and vanity was often considered an attribute of stupid - or even promiscous - women.

Nobody says that anymore or at least not as much because it's an outdated notion and society is a lot different than before. There was a time when this was more true. It wasn't because pretty blonde women were inherently dumb but just people (men) wanted to have sex with them so they'd patronize them. Anytime a blonde woman would do anything a man would step in and try to do it for them. Also young blonde girls were treated like little princesses far more than brunettes or red heads. If anytime your child tries to read, you pull the book away from them and read it to them yourself they'll never learn to read. So the whole "dumb blonde" trope started an a societal problem because anytime a pretty blonde woman faced a challenge somebody else would solve it for them so they wouldn't have to "worry their pretty head about it." Luckily we're not living in the 80's anymore and (most) people realise what somebody looks like has no bearing on their competence.

Elle wasn't stupid; she was just pretty and sweet and people equate that with being stupid. She had a 4.0 from UCLA. Yes, her major was fashion merchandising but just because it was fashion-focused doesn't mean that it was an easy course. UCLA is one of the top universities in the nation and merchandising requires computer science, business, psychology, and a slew of other intense classes, which she aced. She also got a 179 on her LSAT. People study for years for the LSAT and still don't score that high. And then she managed to be accepted into Harvard based on her scores, volunteer work, grades, and personality. If Elle had been ugly - no offense, just being blunt - people would've had no problem describing her as smart rather than blonde.

Yeah I wish there was a more portrayal of this in general it’s always polar opposites. Also it’d be nice if a woman in literature and films can still be a feminine girl but didn’t have to be portrayed as weak or overly submissive constantly relying on a man. I feel like when a girl does have a more dominant role they give the “I’m not like other girls/tomboy” vibe like why can’t she be feminine, smart, and strong too? 😂

One of my favorite thongs about this whole film was that it revolved around the concept of prejudice without the traditional setting. We often associate prejudice with race or religion, but often times the color of our hair and the clothes we dress in can garner an unfair and uncalled for prejudice.

Back in the day, like over 100+ years ago, blondes were considered very intelligent because the hair was very light, similar to an older person's white hair, and with age comes wisdom, so it was a steriotype that blondes were very wise. People got jealous of the rarity of blondes in europe so that made propoganda that blondes are stupid to make them less attractive

1953, and hit the box office with Marilyn Monroe as Lorelei, epitomized as the dumb blonde. Portrayed as absentminded, slightly scatty and interested in marrying solely for money, some of Lorelei's most famous lines only emphasize the stereotype: "I can be smart when it's important, but most men don't like it." In contrast, her co-star, Dorothy (a brunette) is characterized as smart and more capable.

Blondes were at one point highly desired as spousal "objects" by men in the upper echelons of the patriarchy (they served no purpose other than shallow aesthetic pleasure to these "men") being unlearned (and falsely so presumed unintelligent) was also important to many of them as it was a sign of "obedient nature." It makes sense to me that this stereotype managed to push itself forward into the current era - where it will hopefully dissipate.

I prayed for my hair to darken as I got older and sure enough it did. I have naturally brown hair and get blonde highlights in the summer and red highlights in the fall. I actually miss having light blonde hair now though but bleaching isn't something I'm comfortable with. I just love the look of light blonde hair with emerald green clothing or black gothic styles. There was a a study that actually showed quite the contrary for how intelligent blondes are. Seems it's those that bleach blonde whom tend to lack intelligence. Makes one wonder.

Elle’s character had no problem passing the bar exam and is very detail oriented with great deductive and investigative skills. Her knowledge was not just fashion oriented , although it did include that. I think it’s the stereotypes including wearing pink, sparkles, big boobs, and blonde hair that truly contribute to that kind of judgment. I have blonde hair but I have not been stereotyped as dumb (at least not very often). Not a fan of pink, and sparkly things or anything along those lines for myself. My step daughter, however, has bleach blonde hair, loves pink sparkles etc. She’s gorgeous and definitely stereotyped. Thing is, she’s also brilliant. One of the sharpest, most observant people I know. Many people are super into fashion and obsessed with superficial things, but because their style is less “pink and sparkly” they are not judged in the same way.
