As a Mongolian, I actually did go through a lot of the things #1 said. I lived in the main city most of my life and visited my relatives in the countryside every summer. They lived it traditional tents, herded lambs, goats, cows and horses. People used to always ride horses but nowadays they mostly use motorcycles to get their way. There are still a lot of people using horses as transport in the countryside though. We used to herd sheep and/goats into a group and pick out one to humanely slaughter and use as food. Humanely. We tried our best to prevent the animal from suffering. We then either cooked or froze the animal’s meat. Riding horses actually seems very fun. I have never been allowed to ride one as it can be quite dangerous if the horse isn’t correctly trained. My dad got hurt really bad because of a horse in the past so he was always paranoid of me getting hurt. I’ve always wanted tonride one though. I could only really watch as my close relatives had fun on their own respective horses. Life in the countryside of Mongolia is extremely fun, but can get very dangerous due to the severe weather, especially during the winter. Many living beings, mostly animals(cows, sheep, goats) but sometimes humans as well, either get stuck in the thick snow or freeze from the cold. A lot of the things #1 mentioned are things that were practiced a lot by the older generation of Mongolian nomadic herders and modern, but very traditional families. They’re true, but outdated. These traditions were all practiced sometime in the past.

As a native Chinese speaker, #4 was very obvious to me because Chinese is a tonal language. The way he speaks, a lot of them were off tone, and the best way to describe is it sounds like John Cena but a bit better with the tones emphasis. #1 was easy to distinguish because she had flat tone for all her Chinese, and her story seemed like it was just based on Wikipedia or something lol, so it would've still boiled down to #4 at the end 😅
@ethanm80936 ай бұрын
he was exaggerating the tones which is common for romance language speakers to do when they learn Chinese. The first girl had an accent but its one thats fairly common among the older generation from rural parts of China.
@whalium8896 ай бұрын
Do some American born Chinese ppl not sound like this?
@duskshadow256 ай бұрын
@@whalium889 It depends on how the person was raised, even if they're ABC. As I mentioned before, Chinese is one of the hardest languages in the world because it's a tonal language. Every character has a tone emphasis to it. Just picture you speaking one sentence let's say "I'm going to work" in a flat tone. It just sounds very off in Chinese if you speak like that. And you may confuse people too if tones are not used correctly. For example, when I type Chinese on a keyboard, I use pinyin. Then if I were to type "hello" in Chinese, I would type "ni" and then "hao." But you have to know "ni1, ni2, ni3, and ni4" and what each of tones are before you can even distinguish the differences. Then after you choose the level of tone, there are thousands of more character in that category of tone that you have to know which character to use and choose from. This just comes down to more using the character and learning each character definition and meaning. That's just for one character. Then you go on to the next one "hao" part and it's the same thing lol. That's why it's very difficult, and the tones are very important when speaking too. If you're using the wrong tone when you're speaking, it's very easy for native to tell. Or at least to me, it's very obvious. That's why Maria was asking them to sing a song, because you can tell a lot if a person is good with the language based on singing a song in that language because of their pronunciation of a word. Something I notice when Taiwanese people speak Mandarin, they don't have curl tongue in their pronunciation of the tones. This is how I easily tell if they're Taiwanese or not because when they say let's say "eat" in Mandarin, they just say "ci" with a flat tone 1, instead of "chi" with a curl tongue tone 3.
@sambydlon24886 ай бұрын
