Richard Barbieri, known for his work with Porcupine Tree, brought a unique sound to the band with his synthesisers and keyboards. Before joining Porcupine Tree in 1993, he was a member of the late 70s and early 80s English band "Japan". Despite their name, Japan didn't have a specific connection to the country, but their music and style were influential and often associated with the New Romantic movement. The band's name, reportedly chosen for its sound rather than any cultural significance, didn't reflect a specific Japanese influence in their music. Similarly, Barbieri's work wasn't particularly tied to Japanese culture. His contribution to both Porcupine Tree and Japan leaned more towards progressive rock, ambient music, and electronic influences. His musical journey speaks volumes about his versatility and adaptability as an artist.

Lived in Japan for 3 years and coming back to the US and speaking Japanese was one of the weirdest things bc I never in my life thought I would slip up and speak a different language but it 100% happens and you barely notice until someone gives you a weird look. Funny thing is, when the old man said yes I didn't even realize he said it in Japanese until the dude called him out 😂😂 the brain is a tremendous thing

In South Africa most people speak multiple languages in a conversation and even a sentence. Or two different home language speakers will speak and reply in their respective home languages (does that make sense? Basically an english speaking person will reply in english and an afrikaans person will reply in afrikaans, but they both understand each other perfectly). Its normal for us but I guess it can be pretty colourful if you are not used to it. Glad you had that cultural experience! I'd love to learn Xhosa but there arent any language apps that I've found to do that

@@aloeTevi oke so if you call 30k a year HUGE, what do you call 50k? and 100k? just curious..
@aloeTevi
@aloeTevi Жыл бұрын
@@Legendaryium those options are all huge, obviously 100k is a lot more than 30k, but theres a point where getting paid more than X amount is kinda like overkill. Like if you say you get paid not that much you already have a range of money you can guess that might be hard to live with, if you say you have an average pay you also have a range where you live kinda comfy, and saying you get paid a lot or that you get paid huge money implies that you live without problems, and so guessing how much money that is becomes harder as there isn't a limit or a point where you get paid more than "huge" I don't know if that makes sense, I was just kinda curious why guessing 30k as "huge money" isn't a good guess. (In my country, if you get paid like 3.5k dollars you are already getting paid more than 90% of all people in the country, the average being less than 1k)
