@@breeb2334 Her wife and personal life makes no difference to me at all. I love all her common sense information and tutelage. Right not a good idea to sacrifice everybody's comfort for the sake of design as she points out. I cannot afford her but her posts guide me. I am a straight white male and I was sooo confused. I understand design, but not really interiors, she cleared up a LOT of it up. Can't I love and respect her withOUT any politics? Personally I can go beyond these things and see a wonderful mind.

The wardrobe comment I just recently used. I painted our primary bedroom “greige”, when I typically go tan. My husband leans more towards grey, so we compromised. When I was explaining it to someone else, they said “oh is it kind of silver”? And that’s when relaxed I wanted silver grey bedding and accents with black furniture. I wear mostly black and always silver jewelry so it totally made sense.
@TheBklynMe2 жыл бұрын
OMG. Get out of my head. This was the most helpful video. I was kind of doing this anyway (keeping it neutral with the big pieces) and the designing with the accents. But it is nothing like getting your feelings supported. Thank you!!!

Excellent video and advice Kiva! My design style is fairly defined by my very traditional furniture pieces. However, I realized that these rather dark pieces needed to be balanced out with lots of playful color and texture in my space. So I took the liberty of "changing" my design style to transitional. With that mindset, I added colorful Bohemian rugs, highly textured throws, playful and colorful embroidered pillows all of which made my space more playful and less "heavy." I love you, your advice and your channel as you are one of the best designers on YT! Keep up the great work!

Kivea!!! Thank you. I feel like I’m pretty decisive but I also like the next big thing when it comes to trends. I just watched house of Valentina video about their take on updated farmhouse And felt crestfallen. My house is modern farmhouse-no signs. But I JUST bought a new table and chairs from pottery barn. This video helped me not regret my purchase. My wardrobe is comfy-even to church I wear a spandex dress. As a mom of 4 kids I NEED comfort and durability and I have that. Thank you. This video was SO timely for me. You talked me down and calmed me. To be honest you always do. I will be sticking to the basics that are “boring”. I happen to love boring.

I ended up mixing glam with French country lol and I change things up constantly. I purposely painted my walls a light grey with white trim to work with my changing style. I usually pick one color or print in a room and work around that. I love shabby chic style but I also love glam so the French country mixed with some glam worked well to achieve that vibe without going full shabby chic and being stuck in that style. Different throw pillows and set can change the whole vibe of a room! My closet is a lot of black lol but my place is mostly Pastels with some pops of purple and pink so 🤣😩 Great video!

This is such great advice and funnily enough, some of these are tips I inadvertently incorporated when I furnished my new apartment after making a few big mistakes the first time around (when I moved in with my ex). Especially the one with the bland furniture and white kitchen (not that I got to pick the kitchen but almost all my furniture is white or neutral). It's working really well for my changing tastes now. I am meandering between scandi, modern boho, mid-century modern and japandi, which is not that hard to do when you've got minimalistic, neutral-coloured furniture. :)

THANK YOU THANK YOU! This is the VideoI’ve been waiting years for! My wardrobe: blue jeans and a white t-shirt, minimal accessories. I kinda know what “things” I liked if money were no object-different items from so many styles-but how do I make California mid century/Spanish meets transitional mixed with some modern organic/French country and some preppy eclectic glam in a minimalist and scandi-clean and empty kind of way and pull it off in a very traditional 90s style Georgia house without moving across the country or major renovations? I don’t know. I don’t feel particularly attached to anything I own and I am super hesitant to spend money on anything because I seem to constantly change my mind. The one thing I have to come back to-the fun thing-and that is just that I love art. I love various styles and I love color. I love being able to decorate for seasons and I hate when I feel like a yellow kitchen clashes with my red and green Christmas or red and blue 4th of July and couldn’t figure out how to do it so that I can swap stuff out seasonally. So, back to basics we go per your advice-black and white soft accents like pillows and blankets to brighten and add pattern to my brown leather couches and navy blue velvet chair. White frames for a huge gallery wall in my two story living room that I can swap with seasonal art prints of various colors and styles depending on the season. Colored flowers, seasonal fruits and greenery to bring in the color from the art, a few mid century furniture pieces like coffee and side tables, and a little gold to add that preppy glam. And hopefully it all comes together with my red brick fire place, copious amounts of crown and other molding and my 90’s oak floor. I moved into my house a year and a half ago and could finally for the first time afford to actually buy things I liked, got to the functionality of an Airbnb and then gave up because it was so overwhelming and I didn’t know what I wanted. But thanks to your advice all my endless hours on KZbin/Pinterest/shopping sites finally feel like have harmonized and I see a clear path forward out of the endless “inspo” posts! So again, thank you!!!

Do a Mood Board to help you overcome indecision. If you like leather, you have more options than industrial, for example, English Pub or Horse country. You can get color combo ideas from your wardrobe but go neutral with big ticket home furnishings and adventurous on small ticket items that don’t cost much to change out. It takes time and effort and many visits to estate sales and thrift shops to curate a high end look on a budget, to achieve your mood board, so it automatically steers you away from the fads. You don’t have to buy everything you like.

Kiva l love love love all the tips! I prefer a neutral palette which allows me to easily change or freshen things up with accessories and decor. I have classic, quality investment pieces so that l'm not purchasing new furniture every 6 months.
