Thanks for the video-- it worked! My 2000-era eTrex hasn't been able to connect to satellites for several years, and I was about to pitch it when I found this video. The overall reset didn't work for me either, but as others here have said, the individual resets did the trick.

Stumbled upon this video as I had the same problem with mine. I couldn't seem to make selections on the main menu as well as no satellites. Fix worked! thanks. I guess the data/software got in a mess

It's because the 10 bit number that tracks the week resets to zero every 20 years. So some older GPS have a sort of Y2k type glitch and have a hard time getting the date right which makes them take a long time to lock.

The complete reset didn’t work but the individual resets did. It took a while for my unit to make contact with all the satellites. And n the process I realized I was set up for the wrong battery chemistry. Thanks!

how do you know if, in the process of doing all the default restores that the unit didn't just find the satellites?

In my case I had mine seeking the satellites for several hours without success finding any, but after the resets it started finding them right away, but still took a while before it found all of them.

Yeah i cleared everything. It still takes a while to lock on, but it is finding them now.

Mine had some badly coroded batterys i put vinegar in to soak the pins in like 5 10 minutes it was clean as a whistle
