My ISP had a WiFi router that I wasn't able to turn off. Its was the cable modem and the router where separate. So I got my own WiFi router with a turn off button. 😁 That is my story and I am sticking to it.

A lot of routers these days even when you try and disable wifi the box is still emitting EMF. A lot of providers have a second access point for sharing your home internet connection with the public (BT in UK) - You have to call up to the ISP and only they can disable it. In addition TP-LINK routers emit a "mesh" signal even when the wifi is disbaled in web interface and there is no way to disable the mesh network and the devs ignore customer complaints. The only way to check is with a EMF meter these days.

in such cases, cloning the MAC address of your router to access the internet without it, by cable - should work.

hi can i just ditch the wifi router and connect the ethernet wire directly to the modem? im not worries about not having security

If you only have 1 device you want to connect to the internet, that will work. But if you need multiple devices online, I highly doubt this will work even if you connect a network switch to the modem.
@klmn2000
@klmn2000 5 ай бұрын
@@JJFlores197 You can connect the Internet connection to a router with no wifi option (a wired router) then lead off to a switch box for multiple connections. It will do the same as using the wifi router but without the wifi. Most modern wifi routers have no 'off' switch for wifi.
@JJFlores197
@JJFlores197 5 ай бұрын
@@klmn2000 Yes I'm aware, but that doesn't answer the initial question. And even though most wifi routers don't have a physical on/off switch for the wifi, you can still disable it within the web management/app. And plus most home routers you buy have wifi built in. Its very difficult to find consumer routers that have no wifi built in.
@klmn2000
@klmn2000 5 ай бұрын
@@JJFlores197 No, that's not correct. Offices use routers without WiFi option all the time. There are wired to wired routers.

The best way is to by-pass the wireless router altogether and get a non-wireless router to connect to the internet. You can then lead off to the wireless router as an option in the event you ever need wifi.

What about putting the wifi in a faraday type box using EMF blocking screening material? I'm guessing it will muffle the signal but not block it completely.

I guess you can connect via wifi and switch the WiFi off, if you are already connected by cable. If you do so and you are not connected by cable - you can clone your routers MAC address onto your lan/network adapters "MAC cloning" settings, in order to access the internet by cable. If you don't know the password either you can't get it, and the one on the box doesn't work - hard reset your router (usually done by inserting a pin into a dedicated hole in the box, but not the one that says AC :). This will make the factory password on the box work again. If none of those options is viable for you, but you still want your wifi to stop working - unscrew the antenna (the speed and range will drop dramatically), or put it in a faraday box. :)

Scottie, we want to ditch the wiifii but have an issue. We have a tmobile modem which is not wired at all from the outside. Its just a wiifii modum but it does have an ethernet to plug devices into. If i were able to go by your instructions in this video, would this modum still be able to connect a signal from the outside to work???
@ScottiesTech
@ScottiesTech Жыл бұрын
It depends... If the modem connects to the 3/4/5G cell network, then you might be able to get away with disabling WiFi and using only Ethernet. But if the modem gets internet from another local WiFi network, then no.

That MIGHT be possible... but not if you are technically renting the 'box' from the ISP, which is often the case. When I got a fiber upgrade, I had to ship my old box back to my ISP, and they have warranty 'security stickers' and that kind of thing.
