if you are going through alll these routers you need to go and make sure you have the latest FIRMWARE for them as well. also you should look into custom firmwares Tomato and open-wrt and probably others. those firmwares will probably allow you to just use the 'routers' as acccesss point in a whole home network instead of broadcasting all these different SSSIDs and IPs in your area.. *These are important concepts/tisp to go with this video in fact they're critical points to be made!* EDIT: I just noticed another comment points out that yuo need to be aware of the wifi channels as well during this!!

You should change the SSID of each router so you know which router you're connected to. If the Wi-Fi signals from each router overlap, your device will not know to switch connections and will stay with the last connection established.

Great video! Questions: How would you know that the ISP DHCP server had not yet assigned out the .2 and .3 addresses to some other devices; is there a range of addresses already configured as static addresses on the ISP router? If so, how do you configure this? And, how do you prevent broadcast overlap if the 3 routers are relatively close to each other?

Nice video. Although cable would be ideal, it's not always possible to pass cables around. Here at home I have a second WiFi router with Openwrt, which allows me to use it as a wireless repeater, works really well. You could also have the same WiFi name, easier to move around. Also worth checking the WiFi channel to avoid interference.

Its always possible. Its just a matter of weather you are going to spend the money and the time to do it right. What a great instructional video and thanks for that. I miss the information about the connection speed of the different routers. I assume that the routers do have an equivalent connection. Because if the ISP router has a speed of 100Mb and the (second) Basic Wife has a speed of 1Gigabit, then the signal remains weak because the speed does not change to 1 Gigabyte? Please correct me if I'm wrong 😉

Great video! I have 3 routers (including the one from ISP) that's wired together and I realized it was set up incorrectly although I did not feel any conflict since it expanded my wifi signal anywhere in the house using the same SSID and password. The only conflict I experienced would be accessing tp link router configuration wirelessly since my extra routers are all tp-link. I recently both a wifi6 router which triggers my interest to identify proper router connections since I'm afraid I might not be able to maximize my router's newesr features if the connection will only from the old routers. QUESTION THOUGH... Can I connect the routers this way but still use same SSID and password so our phones will just automatically connect to nearest router?
@Usefulhacksfreeofcharge
@Usefulhacksfreeofcharge Жыл бұрын
Thats a good question, i have same. My feeling is telling me thats not possible because these routers are not mesh routers but i dont know exactly
@dianneT
@dianneT Жыл бұрын
@@Usefulhacksfreeofcharge I spoke to a friend instead who is in IT and had me speak to a network engineer FOC working from one of the Philippines biggest telephone and internet company. He told me that this "proper way" of connecting the routers together are more applicable on offices or businesses or if you have your own server. He added that if this is for personal use only and we don't have a lot of people using the internet, regardless how many devices we have, then it's okay to set it up the way I did, no need to turn off DHCP since at the end of the day, my internet is just coming from one network. My newest router has one mesh feature, but that even though the other routers do are not mesh... when connected wired to each other with the other routers as an access point, IT INDEED WORKS like a mesh!!! I'm using one SSID and password with all routers connected hardwired with some set as access point... I have wifi signal anywhere in the house without any connection conflict! I did speedtest on supposed deadspots and I would get atleast 90mbps over 150mpbs to the farthest area of our house that used to just get 15mbps before. I also tried following the video instructions above, but the TP link site won't allow me to reassign IP address for an access point, also wouldn't allow me to turn off DHCP if I won't set the IP static which was not part of the instruction so what I did... I configured 2nd and third router by using TP link's quick setup page while on LAN alone to my PC... set it as access point, changed wifi name and password. Then that's it! I connected to the main router after. As simple as that. My tether app even recognized both my 2nd and 3rd router for monitoring. Many say that there would be a conflict if you wouldn't follow this way, so I asked an expert and told me it's okay. I don't have to access each router's configuration from time to time anyway. Regardless of how it's done though... as long as it works and gets the job done, then all is fine.

@@dianneT wow thanks for the answer. I my case if i setup the routers not shown as in the video the internet seems to work without speed loss, but when I game rocket league i have huge packet loss and high Pings. Furthermore when im using whatsapp and walk from one router to the other is then its disconnecting and connecting the call. Furthermore i dont know if connected in the wrong way there will be a firewall issue or make the system vulnerable. But as a I told you i am not an it specialist. Is possible that you have new routers that are mesh able?
@dianneT
@dianneT Жыл бұрын
@@Usefulhacksfreeofcharge I bought TP Link AX55 AX3000 wifi 6 router with one mesh feature. I also have powerline adapter that was said to have firmware update for powerline adapter, but I stopped using the PLC because it's not really compatible with fiber connection, it could not handle fiber speeds as per ISP tech. But as I said, when it comes to work purposes and/or gaming, I always ensure that my PC is hardwired. I use wifi for phones only and smart home... I am also not an expert, but never had a problem so far. Upgrading to wifi 6 router has made improvement, I can now get my maximum wifi speed with my phone since most of the new phones today like iPhone pros have wifi 6 capability. I also felt how fast and STABLE telling siri to turn on and off my lights at home. It used to have some delays that I wouls have to reopen and close my home app or smartlife app just to be connected. But now, I am always connected. What's amazing is because I always have wifi signal with 4 routers at home connected to each other, I have no issues sending a command to Siri to turn off the lights or also turn on and off my LG AC and LG washer with my iPhone. But anyway, like I said. I tried following the video as well, but the config did not allow me to manually assign the ipaddress unless I set it to static. I am not familiar with how static ip address works so I preferred to just use TP Link's quick setup to automatically set the router as access point, what's interesting though is that even if you set it up as access point, it retains the DHCP setting which I left as is since it was automatically setup by the system.

Good video, but technically, there is no need to take the challenging route for what you did here. That is why we have an option for every router to be used and set up as a bridge which if it is chosen on setup, the router will only transfer the values of the original router and will not add DHCP and new conflicted IP address.

FAIR and SQUARE explanation and demonstration on how to connect multiple WiFi routers for internet connectivity and expansion! Nevertheless, it would be MORE INTERESTING if those 3 routers were hooked-up using WIRELESS connection (WiFi). The drawbacks of the basic configuration you did are the hassles (messy installation) and costs (money, time & effort) of WIRED connection using network cables. If the house/building is a 3-storey, providing internet connectivity to 2nd & 3rd storeys, each with a WiFi router, via the main WiFi Ethernet router installed/configured in the ground floor using cables isn't cost-effective for a "non-techie" owner who have no extra LAN cables and all his devices/gadgets (routers, phones, tablets, notebooks, audio/video I/O, etc.) are using wireless fidelity. Can the wired connection be totally ignored in lieu of wireless connection? Is wireless really disadvantageous over wired considering both are connectivity options and internet users at home is limited few?

Thanks for the details! Many other similar videos leave out variables needed to fully complete. My next step is to use a Powerline adapter to extend Ethernet to a remote building. Then use the wireless router within that building. In theory should work to communicate some trend data. Thx again!

Interoperability between 2 PowerPoint Ethernet Adapters (PEA) occurs when both PEAS are on same electric power company transformer AND same phase of that transformer. However, different buildings means different electrical grounds, hence risk of equipment burnout from current flows produced when ground voltage difference arising when storms occur. For example, one building above rain soaked dirt, another above granite rock.
Any WIFI Router can be a WiFi Extender!
