I'm 58 and only started playing 5 months ago. This is one of the first songs I'm working on from start to finish. This has been a tremendous help!

Sop glad you included them. The band, and Toy, are both so underrated.

This is a great tutorial. Just played this song for the third time in my classic rock geezer cover band and sounded way more authentic after watching this

Wow, great job...now,all I gotta do is work on it,lol. This song sounds simple enough but when you start picking up not only does it have salt & pepper,it's got some honey, paprika ( smoked,of course) and a little hot sauce too....a lot of things going on here to hit all the senses....and all this musical greatness happened just down the road in Spartanburg SC, man,those guys were geniuses back in '73 ! To me,this is what pop's up when someone mentions Southern Rock. Love it !!!

There's a live video of this on KZbin where you can clearly see Toy's left hand on the intro. In that version, rather than the Cadd9 (x32030) that everybody plays, Toy plays (x30230) which I see as a C6/9. Gives it a different color if you listen close.
@LEADSOLO3 жыл бұрын
I believe you are correct that he would be playing it that way. Just want to point out though that I'm playing the nine down an octave as well...x30020... So he is just adding an octave higher of that as well plus the six, as you point out. On the studio I hear the very opening lick as I play it but it is awkward pressing only the fifth and second string, and keeping that open d string ringing out. I can see how his finger positioning would help that low d string to be easier to ring out. it sounds like basically what he's doing is just playing his d chord and then throwing a c bass on it. So yeah technically it's a 6/9, but is much easier just to think of it as a d chord with a c bass. And to play that you have to let go of the high e string which works out perfect because the e is in the c chord. Thanks for your info. That's a great way to play it.

The guitar run-down is more like this. The note pairs have a slight arpeggio (delay) between them: E----15--14--12--10--8--5--3--2--|---0----------------------------------| B--------------------------------------------|--------3-------1--------------------| G--16--14--12--11--9--7--3--2---|---0----------------2- slide -11-| D--------------------------------------------|------4-------------------------------| A--------------------------------------------|---------------------------------------| E--------------------------------------------|---------------------------------------|

One of my favorite songs to play. BUUUTTTT when you said you "heard " he plays with his fingers I lost all respect. I cant believe you trying to give a lesson on Troy Caldwells classic and never watched him. He played with his thumb as a pick.
