I decided when I retired in March 2020, that I would learn how to play the guitar. At the age of 62 and having never played any instrument in my life, I was a bit doubtful and leery that I would be able to learn how to play. In our "new norm" world we live in I immediately turned to U Tube, as face to face lessons were out of the question. I stumbled upon many different teachers and wasn't satisfied until I came across you. You have made the whole experience of learning, an exciting one. Your teaching methods are clear, precise, easy and simple. I have found myself playing for hours watching your videos, rewinding them over and over again. Best of all I am loving it and am getting better every day! I would highly recommend Shane's site to anyone who asks me. Thumbs up Shane! 👍👍 I look forward to seeing the releases of all your new teaching videos. Thanks again. Keep up the great work! Mike Babcock, Caledon Ontario.

Ditto what Mike said, retired and now 66 decided to learn how to play the guitar. Took lessons at a guitar store for a year, I've learned more in a few days watching your videos than I did taking lessons. Thank-you.

I believe it is never too late to learn. If you're retired, there's no better time to start than now. Although I started a long time ago, I didn't really get any better for years. Career, raising kids, moving multiple times...life got in the way. Having a good time with it, now. My advice is to find some other people to jam with. That will automatically force you to learn new songs and to pay attention to tempo. Most of all, have fun!

Great lesson. I’ve been taking private lessons for a year and was never taught where to place my right arm, nor was it suggested to hold the pick between my thumb and middle fingers. I think those two tips will vastly improve my strumming. And I love your humorous, positive teaching style. Can’t wait to see more of your videos!

This was a great lesson for me. Been playing for about 3 months now and still trying to find that clean strumming sound...love the tips on arm position, holding the pick and sweeping. I had not seen that covered as clearly in the many other hours of guitar videos I have watched. You explained the strum pattern and accents very well too. Looking forward to learning this awesome song. Thanks for taking the time to put this great video together.

I have been playing guitar for close to 47 years now and all self-taught. Mostly country classic songs as well as Marshal tucker, Waylon, etc. I am always of the belief that no matter how long you have been playing, there is always something you can learn from another guitar player, and i love watching these types of videos to do just that! I love how you break it down and get into detail for new players about arm placement, pick holding, ect...I learned a couple tips from you today! However, i do use the 'pointy end' as well (.74 being my fav pick) I also favour 'palm muting' with some songs. Would be interesting to see your take on teaching others the style of palm-muting and how to apply that to certain songs. Also, thank you for pointing me to the Beatbuddy!! I ordered one and cant wait to get it. ..Ive been using a programmable drum machine but the BeatBuddy sounds MUCH more professional...THANK YOU!

Your turning me into a better guitar player( or even one) ,.. 😏😱 who saw THAT coming lol 😂 thanks so much ! 🙏🙏 I didn’t do ALL the right things for my kids growing up but did have a piano & a guitar in the house ( both that I didn’t really play) but that instilled a musical curiosity deeply in two of my three very gifted children! They being young seemed to run with it where I have painfully inched along. I only hope one day to jam with them and at LEAST not cringe 😬🤠 you and others on KZbin have helped immensely! ✌️

shane, sir, i am very dismayed by the rudeness and disrespect in some of the comments of this vid. i love the way you handle it, like a healthy green pine tree you just brush it gently by with a zen-like response. but still. without a doubt you are the most friendly and positive guitar guy on youtube. so i just want to apologize for the sub-cretins who view free lessons as their outlet to act like a-holes. i realize it’s a minority but i do get bothered by the negativity. i have watched and benefited from a number of your videos and i really want to thank you for all you do for the part of the community that actually wants to learn, share and grow. no one can really steal your joy without you surrendering it, but this cowards den of youtube pot shotters can be an ugly place. please never let the rudeness or ignorance bring you down. for every obnoxious moron there’s a good 10 or 20 more who are really grateful for your presence here. thank you again, very sincerely. hey, are you considering offering up ‘guitar at work’ mugs for sale in the future? i’ll buy one! cheers shane. good playing!

Terrific lesson Sean & good to see you back! Great song & one of the very few that I can actually halfass play. However, I use a different strumming pattern and I don't play it that fast. The original MTB band was amazing!

One of the most amazing instructionals I've ever seen. That guitar sounds amazing too. Perhaps you have a video of that particular Taylor guitar and how you set up your computer etc to play along? Going to walk my chicken.

Thanks madcow - really appreciate your comment. Glad to have you here with us. I'm just plugging that guitar straight into the mixer and adding a bit of reverb and compression on mix down. The Taylor pickup system is really good I think. Cheers! Shane
