One person I discussed it with against FSD was concerned about security and being able to have the human in control. The problem is that other humans in the vehicle are still not in direct control, so you could be either taken or hijacked. The security argument doesn’t hold water imo, since it is way harder to secure other humans than a computer/software. You can always have an emergency kill switch to manual mode as well, like FSD currently has.

9:30 I mean the recommended safe following distance is 3 seconds. I think that's close to what it's using on 'average', and it allows also for smoother braking action of the car, if the car in front stops suddenly. I mean, you don't get faster to your destination if you tailgate - only faster to the next hospital. :)
@brandonstreng83 Жыл бұрын
I noticed at 17:30 the “changing lanes to follow route” quickly changes to “changing lanes into faster lane” about a second later. I’m going to try to watch for this messaging switch on my own drives. Maybe some of the weird lane selection issues are due to a logic battle between following the route and picking the faster lane.

I once drove 100 (60mph) and drove past an entrance to a farm house, which had its own shield that said 10 (6mph) on the property for the farmers working there with tractors and trucks and whatnot. If there are no cars around to overtake you, I don't understand immediate need to get out of passing lane. There may be more of a chance you will need passing lane again, before someone behind approaches. Car can detect approaching car from good distance and then exit passing lane.

First time I seen it (11.3.6 version) slow down for a right turn on a 2 lane highway, drive over the solid white line and turn right. It did it so well. Impressed my mom as well. 6:02 This is a beta 11 thing for me in general. But my car usually only does it when in the right lane but it will try to turn off a bunch on roads like this. I've been voice reporting like crazy as well. It used to only do it on literally one road and it was fixed but then it broke on a bunch of other similar situations. Hopefully will be fixed when we (the rest of us) get on beta 11.4.?. But super duper annoying. Other thing I have been voice reporting is just requesting that minimal lane changes be a permanent on/off toggle instead of having to turn it on every drive.
@aljohnson9119 Жыл бұрын
Thanks as always. It appears (IMHO) that Beta is not stuck, but chooses, on two lane highways, to remain in left lane until a vehicle approaches from the rear. Then, it moves out of the passing (left) lane. It tends so avoid the right lane as cars are entering and exiting the right lane. Similar on three-lane roads--it remains in the center lane and will even return to the center lane to travel. It will seldom drive in the right lane. Interestingly, as Elon noted, FSD drivers can see how badly other drivers behave. Good drive.

I have 77K miles on my 2016 model S and find the old autopilot good and useful. I just drove a friend's Model 3 with the FSD option and the latest FSD beta activated. It worked but nowhere near autonomous. On a short 5 mile light traffic trip it made it to the destination of Home Depot; almost. It could not back out of the driveway and when it got into the parking lot it went on a collision course to parked trailers and I had to quickly take over. It turned left at a simple intersection when the light turned green it cut sharply and almost clipped the car sitting at the light for the other direction. On the return trip it started to pull out from a stop sign with a car coming and I had to stop it from doing that. It ignores potholes and it tried to run over a kid playing in a side street, but he got out of the way. I am sure it would run over dogs and cats. The $15K my friend spent for the FSD option is a total rip off profit center for Tesla FSD will probably not be safe until after his car is worn out. The should be paying drivers to test the beta not the other way around.

If it weren't for the fact that Tesla wants FSD people to be beta testers, seems like Tesla could easily make a lower cost version that would allow you to record say 2 routes (commute + go to store or such) but not have "unlimited FSD". By recording the route, you could eliminate most/all of the navigation problems and get most of the FSD benefit since commuting for most people is what you do the most and is not "fun driving". The uptake on this would likely be much higher than having to pay $15k and would earn a lot more money overall. But I know, true robotaxi FSD is "coming by the end of the year!"

At the 16min mark when it changes from 70 down to 60 why is allowing 75mph, if this was in Australia the police would be interested in this video you would get a huge fine and likely lose about half of you demerit points (12 max you likely get about 6 for that) Did autopilot try and change it to 60mph?
@DirtyTesla Жыл бұрын
Because I changed it as I said in the beginning. As you can see, even going 5 over, people are flying by me. It's normal to go up to 10mph over the limit here and police (usually) don't care.

@@DirtyTesla wow ok here in Australia we are Kph not Mph so give you an idea 15mph is 24kph in one of our states here More than 20km/h but not more than 30km/h over the speed limit is a $646AUD fine and 4 demerit points. You will absolutely get pulled over by police here in Australia for exceeding 5kph over the speed limit about 15 years ago they were more lenient about 10kph over. We have speed cameras everywhere that double as red light cameras and speeding cameras. Also putting our rules aside the reason other than revenue raising, there is significant data studies into braking distances from 5kph over the speed limit to 40kph over the limit, which is a loss of license here in Australia, there are 2 elements to the braking distances 1). distance traveled during reaction time and then 2). the actual braking distance. The big reason it was brought in to be tough at even 5kph over was the reaction time and pedestrians at even 10kph over the amount of meters travelled before you react. This is why I am watching with mouth open at all those cars still passing you at 15mph over the limit you would literally never see that in Australia

It can, but it's rare in my experience

@@DirtyTesla I'd be very curious to see a pothole avoidance test, this would be a huuuge thing to have in the northern parts of US and Canada where the freeze-thaws make craters every spring

I simply dont understand why the car isnt capable of feathering the brakes...My drive to work is mainly back roads (no highwaays) and FSDb simply doesnt know how to feather that brakess...Slam the accelerator, then slam on the brakes. And PLEASE stop braking at the top of hills!!!!

It can't even drive out of a gated community.

😬 I would say I'm more bullish on fsd lately than in the past, but the silly regressions get old, even if I understand why they're happening

You seem to be convincing yourself FSD is getting close to level 5. Here are things I have seen on your videos and others that tell me it isnt. Can't navigate in a parking garage. Can't pass on a two lane road. Usually gets confused by traffic cones and barriers. Can't read any signs. Can't hear commands, can't deal with hand signals. What if you had a toll both on your way to work or the airport? So called FSD doesn't recognize police cars or emergency vehicles, it doesn't usually recognize flashing emergency lights red, blue or yellow. It won't stop or yeild right of way to emergency vehicles or stopped buses letting kids out. It doesn't know a dangerous object from a non dangerous one so it will emergencey brake if a sheet of news paper blows in front of it. It can't tell mud, sand, soft shoulder, water over the roadway - it will drive right into them and get stuck. it can't detect small dangerous object on the road like broken glass. Most of your videos are like how great it works - driving places a child could drive with one finger. Normal easy driving in light traffic isn't much of a test; why don't you get a 9 year old and see if they can do it. Then try 5 years old.

I mean, technically it can't. It would just turn around 100 times on the way to work ;D

I need beta so badly 😢

Have you subscribed to it? If so, and you still don't have it, it's probably because you're on a later version of the base software, that the current 11.3.6 won't load on. The good news is that Tesla has just announced that they're rolling out FSD 11.3.6 on software 2023.12; and according to TeslaFi this is already happening. So you won't get the latest (11.4.1/2) version yet, but you should get 11.3.6 within the next week or two.

You work at Panera? 🤣 What's most disheartening is that Elon thinks "it does look like it's going to happen this year" ("I think, in my opinion, we probably will") because he's been dropping pins in Austin and San Francisco and there's been "no safety related intervention" for a while. Maybe it's me and I have the wrong definition of FSD...where I am in the back seat or turned sideways playing cards with my wife. You are doing great work and we all really appreciate the continuous coverage of FSD. I also believe we all want this to succeed. I know you don't want to wreck your Model Y or X, but what would happen if you just let if move over into that turn-around lane? Would it stop, do a u-turn, merge back to the right??? Basically, would it get you there eventually, albeit 20 minutes late or not?
