Can Thar coal address Pakistan's power crisis?

Power stations running on coal are shutting down in many countries but Pakistan is bucking the trend.
Its first power plant burning coal from an open-cast mine is now operational. The electricity generated is lighting up villages, creating jobs and cutting the cost of fuel imports.
But the project is causing environmental concerns too.
Al Jazeera's Osama Bin Javaid reports from Sindh province.

Biggest problem with Pakistan's Electricity sector is line loses and distribution problems because a big part of total produced power is just lost during transmission due to old infrastructure. Any investment in order to address this problem will be very fruitful and productive.

Our only problem is economy, especially in Sindh. Which would explain why Islamabad is the capital instead of Karachi. It is really corrupt, poor, and lazy. It fell into a brutal civil war between Muhajirs and Sindhis which ended thanks to the Army. But today it is getting better. Electricity, wifi works really good now. But there is still alot of poverty. Perhaps 10% of Pakistanis are poor. In 2002, it was 64%. It improved alot. For now we need to focus for our future.
