having owned the every URSA Mini (from the 4k to the 12k) and currently shooting with the 6k FF (pocket style), I did own a Pyxis for a hot minute. For me, it wasn't a step up in quality, whereas the UMPG2 or UMP12k DOES have better dynamic range, Internal NDs, and better rolling shutter. When you start pricing out the Pyxis with all the fixin's you need to get it up and running, you can get a used URSA Mini (G2 or 12k) for cheaper. Me personally, I'm looking at going back to the 12k OLPF and enjoying the improved image quality. The Pyxis is still great, but I already have THAT sensor in a 6kFF body.

until you have to get those nd filters repaired.

@@bmefilms6879 the mechanical wheel ND filters on the Ursa Mini bodies are the most reliable ones I’ve ever used. I have had the electronic NDs on the Pocket 6k Pro fail, but never the UMP ones.

that’s totally fair. i totally adore my Ursa, i think my only frustration is that they have seemed to stop supporting the 4.6K. How long did you own the pyxis for?

@@AdamLangdon when you get a spot, debris or spec between the nd and the element on the sensor...good luck with that! happened on my 12k and they wouldn't clean it. wanted to charge me for a new sensor and nd replacement.

Great video! Been going back and forth with the Pyxis and Ursa Broadcast G2z The BG2 has a slighter better rolling shutter and faster framerates. Large format never seemed to be a huge need for me either. There just seems to be too much missing in the Pyxis, at least for now. It's not missing a lot, but enough. Some sort of Pyxis Pro or G2 will more than likely come at some point, but it's just not there yet for me at least. An Ursa body also feels better on the shoulder with easy to access buttons. Feel the Pyxis would sit too far back. I shoot a lot of events and need to access the HFR button quickly.

Great video, one of the only ones that make sense other than youngonestudio, maybe we should start these videos by showing us what you own, (this was not aimed at you) I am certainly more then willing to do that, and some will never, only because they talk about gear they read about but never actually had in hand, or had the camera in Hand at the camera store and miraculously have become experts, the only Blackmagic camera I have not owned is the ursa G2 and am sure that the new tech in the Pyxes is amazing and I will be purchasing one in the near future, but have you seen the files out of the 12k shot in 8k or even 4k and keeping the camera under 800 ISO if you light correctly, its pretty hard to beat, rolling shutter that they make such a big deal out of , how often are you swinging your camera around that its going to make a difference, I am on sticks most of the time, the pyxes has rolling shutter issues but that is not going to stop me from getting one, but at the same time there is almost no rolling shutter on the 12k shooting at 8K, please check Matteo Bertoli's page, very informative on Blackmagic.
