perfect truck for contractors and other businesses who do work around town. despite what internet comment sections will have you believe, towing 10,000 pound trailers cross country every day is a very specific use case and not what most contractors and businesses do
@duggydo2 жыл бұрын
I agree. However, the occasional job we get that is a long way off and requires us to pull the tool trailer makes for a huge inconvenience. Not only does it take a long time to recharge, the charging stations don't accommodate trucks with trailers very well at all. A 50% improvement in battery energy density or significantly faster charging would do a ton to make EV trucks a no brainer for almost all fleets. They aren't quite there yet.

Suggestions for further testing: *As this is 'sold' as a work truck, load the back up with two guys and 500 lbs or so in the back...and then drive it out and about. I'd like to see what it performs like then. *This winter it will be interesting. *Maybe try some more agressive tires (after all, some worksites require driving on muddy/icy ground) Will this be available in 4wd? *Do you HAVE to be using the app to charge? *Test it in winter with a heater on and the 'work load'....

Got to love how the Internet People think they'll do road trips without breaks as if they're racing in the Gumball Rally. They must not have a spouse and children. I swear - it's not often you get to skip a rest stop. If you're stupid enough to pass one without asking the passengers if anyone needs it, you'll experience much more panic about finding the next available restroom than you ever experience with "range anxiety". Road Trip charge stations are perfect built in rests, usually near shopping or food, which makes everyone happy. Happy family, happy trip! One of our favorite weekend getaway trips is 175 miles away, and it usually requires one rest stop and one restaurant. Picking a stop with charging stations isn't a problem. Noted that if you're driving solo and under 50 and driving uninterrupted highway speeds, your bladder can probably outlast the 200 mile range. Also noted, that if with a family and you're driving a Motorhome, this also doesn't apply. With these gas guzzling land yachts, with the bathroom onboard and entertainment like a TVs and games... you need only worry about the drivers bladder (so maybe 3 to 4 hours). Yet, if you're on vacation - relax and enjoy the sights... what's the hurry?

Thanks for reminding me why I stopped watching anything from TFL. you didn't do a "long road trip", that was the same as running around town daily driving. Without having to do multiple charging stops you arent doing a road trip. The charging infrastructure ( how far apart are chargers, how long it takes to charge, are the chargers available/working/blocked, etc) is key to road trip along with the actual range of the vehicle. I'll admit it was interesting to know how well the range estimation worked, and it looks like it worked very well.

I think work trucks are Ford's hidden fuel-saving secret. I have a 2012 F150 XL (5.0 4x4) with heavy duty payload (bigger axle, e rated tires, 3.73 LSD) and yet get 18-22 MPG. I know a lot of people with the "normal" consumer F150's who get more like 16 or eco-boost in the time period at 13-14. I think the EPA rating is 13/17 for my model and I rarely get down to 17, even with snow and warmups (I think I was right at 17 when testing with E-85). Pure highway I get around 21. I work about 1/4 mile from TFL studios, so similar weather and climate.

you must drive 60mph on the highway. gas vehicles get better highway mileage and even better if you stay at 60mph or below.

If you plan a road trip how long does it take to recharge in a 400 mile trip?

About 20 minutes each stop - so 40 to 60 minutes

Huh, if you're not doing a large amount of daily miles, you might be able to do light contactor work for 3-5 days without recharging, even in an area with a power outage, with the ProPowerOnboard option.

Everything you need and nothing you don’t… except a goofy folding shifter that will do nothing but break and doesn’t need to be there at all. This is basically the same package that I would’ve ordered but alas I’m out with the current price hikes

This is the truck i wish the guys got instead of the Lariat. Tons of videos with the higher trim lightning but i don't think I've seen a video of a "long term" lightning pro.

How much does it cost to buy replacement battery (131 kWh) for a Ford F-150 Lightning Lariat EV? $35,960 + installation. 8 year warranty equivalent to $4,495/year. KZbin link: All the details! Ford F-150 Lightning Battery Replacement Cost/Life.

I firmly believe the sub $40k base price was truly just a marketing ploy to get media attention for the launch. Only a few months in and the base price is now basically $52k... Ford never intended to sell volumes of the pro for 40k.
@douglasbradford16392 жыл бұрын
okay that is fine. but if i am using a regular vehicle i can take 5 minutes to put gas in and start going. how long does it take to charge this truck back to 100% and start again?
@tjwatson04032 жыл бұрын
When you have an EV, you rarely have to go to a gas station, period. How inconvenient is having to drive to a gas station to fill up when you could just wake up with a full battery everyday? I road trip once a year. A longer charge once a year isn't a big deal
@Longsnowsm2 жыл бұрын
This thing is far from a stripped work truck. That thing still has way more bells and whistles than it needs, but in the EV space the price is right... Well it was until they just jacked the price like $7-8k. The pro with the larger battery would be my preference if I was forced to buy an EV truck. Good to hear it actually exceeded the expectations on a decent road trip.

@JetSkiBuyFixPlaySellChannel2 жыл бұрын
One teensy tiny problem. Ford won't let you actually order a Pro. They're only selling a very limited amount. Just enough so that they can say they had a $40,000 Lightning available. Of course when the EV tax credits were announced they jacked up the price to match the tax credit. And only fleet buyers can order a Pro with an extended range battery.
@LifeAsDane2 жыл бұрын
The real problem is that "ive heard" the Pro has been the least allocated (yet most affordable) model and rarely available when your reservation spot comes up to order. Go figure
