For anyone that has the Jackery Explorer 2000 Pro and would want the display to stay on, just click the "display" button twice and it'll stay on for about 12 hours if you don't touch any other buttons during that time. To turn it off and return to the auto shut off, simply press the "display" button once. What made me get this model, instead of the Bluetti A200P, is the weight and size difference. The Bluetti is larger, and 26 lbs heavier for the same power capacity as the Jackery. Although the Bluetti is cheaper. But I don't want to carry around a 66 lbs big box, I prefer the 40 lbs of the relatively small cooler-size, Jackery. For the issue mentioned here about unplugging and replugging the solar panels, couldn't it be done just from the back of the unit?

I cannot tell you how invaluable this video was. I ran into the “no charge” issue the first time I powered up the A/C and the Input immediately stopped. I plugged and unplugged at the back of the generator with no result. I was fit to be tied. I’m in the middle of freakin’ nowhere. No signal and no way of find out what the hell. So I just unplugged the cable for the back of the generator and stopped running the A/C. Didn’t need it was only low-70’s. Later I plugged the solar back in and boom I had Input again. I never tried the A/C again as I was just trying to get my acid battery topped up. I’m sure eventually I will finesse the system. However, I was extremely disturbed by this failure. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR UPLOADING THIS VIDEO. TOTALLY HELPED ME. I have since determined I probably over bought with this 2000pro. A 1500 would probably have probably been more than enough but the plan was to dual use it in power outages. If the power goes out, I can still run my wood pellet stove from 4:00PM to 7:00am and still have over 30% with no solar hooked up.. I guess I will keep it but agree mor than a bit annoying considering the cost.

Thanks for proving that it can be done!! I am considering changing out our Coleman for a Houghton AC that has the built in soft start and lower start up so I can power the AC on our Class C (no solar, lithium) with our Jackery 1500 when we have to leave the dog in the RV for a short while!

they have soft starts now you dont have to wire,, you plug into them with plug...about 400 but you will never need to worry again.

Great research. I see lots of gear I recognize! For me the promise of off grid A/C is not a reality yet. Its one thing to drain the battery running the A/C for 4 hours (thank you for the test). But the reality of long recharge time and having a sustainable system that will keep you cool in hot weather is not here yet in my experience. Yea, the charging time on solar is long (even with almost 700 rated watts in panels). I have a Predator 3500 generator that when the 2000pro is plugged into, it will charge it in about an hour and half from completely depleted. I usually use the solar panels the majority of the time and let them do most of the charging and then finish it off before evening with the Predator generator. ( sometimes I only have to run the generator for 30 minutes or so) On a perfect hot clear day if I need to run the ac I am usually getting about 350 watts with all my panels in and the a/c pulls about 450-475 out so usually less than 150 watt net loss while the ac is running so the a/c can run for quite awhile. Then I just start up the predator 3500 and top everything off before nightfall. Thanks for the comment!

It's totally a reality, you just can't buy any 'sogen' to do it with. I'm less than $2k into my system that runs a midea window unit 24/7...and that $2k includes the $350 spent on the window unit!

Cool little camper! I`m thinkng I`d need to transfer my tiny window AC to my cramped bunk room in my old 5th wheel I live in after a hurricane to be able to run it effectively from solar. Because of the small space it would quickly cool down to a comfortable temp and the compressor would kick off. I could turn the unit off completely then and use a USB fan to blow the cold air around. There`s a low window on the bottom set of bunks down where the cold air would settle. I got a 300ah LFeP04 battery and have most of the parts now except switches, breakers, battery meter, and two more panels to have 780 watts. In the meantime I just charge the battery with a 300 watt plug in charger to top it off before storms. It powers my 5000 btu fine for well over 5 hours but I`ve never drained it completely to avoid possible unnecessary stress to the cells. I ran it from 11pm to near 5am one night but the compressor kicked off a whole lot. It blows right on me on my couch so that`s perfect. I have mostly tiny cheap power stations I saw deals on, little on sale power banks, and two Bluetti EB70s for my little box freezer to save my food and two cheap 500w ones for a dorm fridge. So many hurricanes hit us here in Louisiana in 2020 that I went solar crazy while I had extra money. It freaked me out I tell ya.

That is a typical Jackery response to a product issue. I have a 500 that will charge from solar for 1 hour then stop and sit at zero charging all day when the panel has full sun. I sent them a video, explained it, and they told me it was normal behavior. I love having a product that is supposed to recharge itself, but yet can't charge without having to check on it every hour. Despite the constant sales emails from Jackery, I won't buy another one from them. They need to learn to support their products and not act like "Yep, you get what you have."

I still generally use a 4,000-watt gas gen for my ac needs. But I did just order the Bluetti AC500 which can expand to 18,000 watts so that may be a game changer for me with regard to running a small AC. @@pennyharris446 Thx Penny. But no, the new Bluetti AC500 is not on the market yet. I got mine through IndieGoGo. It is a massive beast. You have the Jackery 500 which is a 500 watt ($500) unit. The AC500 is a 5000 watt ($4,500 unit). The AC500 will run a small cabin or tiny home.

As bizarre as this may sound, I'm thinking of getting some sort of solar generator setup for my condo in San Francisco, because as some of you may know, PGE utility costs are really high here in the Bay Area. I want to run my window AC, which I need because I am on the top floor, and have 8' x 30' of windows facing east (meaning my place is like a convection oven, even when it is only 75 degrees outside, because the sun is hitting those windows from sunrise to when the sun starts setting about 7 PM or so. That's a LOT of hours per day to have the sun beating on my place). Also unfortunately, there's many days per year that my place is hotter than most residences. I'm not complaining mind you. I have a 180 degree view of the water in the Bay and the San Francisco skyline. Anyway, fortunately one window AC unit has made my place very cool and comfortable. In fact, if I left the AC on full blast I'd have to wear a ski parka. Bottom line: I have always liked the idea of solar power. A light bulb turned on above my head saying "solar power generator." But I have no idea how any of this works. I found this video which is very helpful (especially the mentioning of the "defect" in this Jackery 2000). I have lots of window space to set up a large solar array. (Is that what those panels are called?) But I don't even know if there is such a thing: a solar power generator WITHOUT the battery backup. (Again, I don't need this for emergency power when or if the power goes out. That's never happened in the 28 years I have lived in my current place). I'm hoping that further research will conclude that with that much window space to in part dedicate for the panels, that I can increase the size of the BTU AC (10000 BTU?) running off solar. I want to simply run my AC, without giving $100 monthly to the PGE robber barons (when I'm running the AC all day that's how much extra my electric bill is each month)..

Yes, that is exactly how mine is set up. I plug my camper into the Jackery which supplies the power. Obviously you will be limited on the watts you are drawing inside the camper to what the Jackery can output.

Do you get near the rated watts of your Jackery solar panels? I found a clearance or mistake deal on some very similar for 99 bucks. When I tested the first 100w one I ordered I got 98+ watts in Louisiana so I immediately ordered another. I opened it and gave it a minor inspection. Several days later I was looking at it sitting there and it looked odd. I examined it closely....it was 120 watts with a type C PD port and an 8mm cable that fit my Bluetti EB70 and had an included MC4 cable, adapters, and other ports, and it produced 118 watts on my first test, plus both easily produced 5 watts at the regular USB ports from light reflecting off the yard under the carport at my sister`s house! Then "sold out."

We're probably going to buy one of these campers in the Fall. For me, the only thing that really matters as far as the air conditioning goes is being able to use it at night for comfortable sleeping. What are your thoughts on using this set-up only late at night. Let's say, start it at 10:00 - 11:00 P.M. at bedtime when it's much cooler and no sun beaming down on the camper. Have the air set at maybe 73-74 degrees. How many hours do you think you could get out of it under those conditions?

Everything is really dependent on the heat and humidity. Mine, on a typical summer night, will last long enough to get to morning and still have power enough to run a coffee pot and such.

Great test/experiment. Thankyou for doing this. Curious about the run time on the ac at the same setting if the jackery was accepting solar input the entire time. Don't know if that would even be feasible? If you unplugged and replugged the solar panel in the very beginning, would the jackery accept the wattage input the entire run time of the experiment? Or would you have to keep unplugging and replugging multiple times to receive input through the entire test? Just wondered how well the jackery performs under load while receiving input wattage. Yes, it is possible to have solar coming in while running the air conditioning. I have had as much as 580 watts coming in while running the a/c that was pulling about 450-475. Netting me about 100 watts while the air conditioner compressor is on, and about 500 watts when it is not. ( the fan on my unit uses about 50 watts regardless). Most days the first thing I do while camping is to run out there and unplug and plug the solar panels back in...... When I am home I do the same thing. It's my routine every morning when I go out to feed the chickens....

I wish someone would do the same test but at night. In a little camper like a runaway you are probably not going to sit in it during the day, but if you could get 6 or more hours at night it may be worth it.

It would really depend on the outside temperature. I have slept with it several times at night. On the hottest night I remember (upper 80's) it lasted from 10pm to 7:30 am when I got up the Jackery had 3%. Inside it was about 74 degrees where I set the A/C to turn on and off. There are a lot of variables on how long it would last.

Seems like a good setup. Dont like the fact that the jackery 2000 has to be replugged all the time to keep charging. I have a solar system with a battery bank in a cargo trailer that runs a window ac all day long as long as it is not too hot out. when it is around 100 degrees out i cant get enough solar in with where it is parked at because of trees and the unit pulls 900 watts on high speed if set to below 80. If i keep it above 80 it will run all day and satisfy and still have battery life left. I leave it running 24/7, set to 82 inside and the batteries have not gotten drained yet since the 100 degree days we had.

​@@Gravitythewolf I couldn't tell you all of the brand names without making a list. I have a video about it on youtube that I made last year if you want to see any brand names. It is not very organized, but I put it together at different times, about 1 year apart from starting with 2 batteries, 400 watts of solar and one solar charge controller. Found that after making a trip I wanted ac and needed more stuff to run one and found out you can have more than one charge controller to a battery bank with no issues as long as you wire them properly, you know positive to positive and negative to negative. But the basic information is I have 3 solar charge controllers charging my battery bank off of a bus bar got from big battery for about $35, highly recommend a bus bar for any system with more than one battery, a total of about 1100 watts of solar panels in 3 groups each to a solar charge controller, 4 batteries wired in parallel for 12 volt system, I think 675 amp hour worth, different brands, a 3000 watt modified sine wave inverter, works fine so far, I had to buy it on the road because the pure sine wave one died on me on a cross country trip when I think because i was trying to charge the batteries while running the inverter and the voltage it was getting was to high from a dc to dc charger at 18 volts, but the new one gets charged by solar all the time with no issues. Wires and all the miscellaneous things like breakers for safety, fuses, and ect., and the window unit ac is 8000 btu Midea u shaped inverter window unit. Most of it bought from amazon or the websites that actually sell the stuff for the batteries and some of the other items.

It's Really about peak watts when compressor is running. My A/C pulls under 500 Watts. A good rule of thumb is to double that. So at least the Jackery 1000. I wouldn't go any less than the 1500 myself. The bigger the unit the more run time you have with it.

It's a F2 code actually just saw it this morning. It's has some randomness to it. I DO know that if it isn't charged by evening and receives no solar that it will almost always throw the code the next morning when the panel starts receiving solar power. I do know about hitting the display twice to keep it on. I am forgetful and thought I may forget to turn it off in between shots and I didn't want the excess draw on the unit ( even though that is a tiny amount ) to effect the outcome of the hours long test. It seems pretty much anytime there is an interruption in sunlight (heavy cloud cover or night) and once the Jackery hits 100%. If it charges all the way up and you use power from the Jackey and it depletes below 100% I have to unplug and plug back in to get it to charge. I would go with the Ecoflow if I were you. (That's exactly what I would of done had I known about this problem before purchasing)

First off great video. I have a couple of questions if you don't mind. 1) How long do you think the AC would work in low cool? The reason is because I would run the AC at night while trying to get some sleep. 2) I think that AC unit only cycles the compressor but the fan runs all the time. Could a plug in thermostat controller be used so cycle the fan also so less power is used? Lastly, could you plug the 180 watt panel into the Jackery 500 and daisy chain from your 12v DC output? Hi, On my Frigidaire the difference between high and low cool is about 25-30 Watts. The ONLY difference I can tell between the two cycles is the fan speed. They make digital ac units that have economy mode that shuts the fan off as well when it cycles off. That would probably be the best solution for sure. I wouldn't see why a thermostat controller wouldn't work in that situation, just make sure that the controller is a rated for the watts your ac unit draws. I have thought about using the 500 exactly that way. However it isn't always in the camper and the 500 is limited on the solar watts it intakes. When the camper is on the homestead the plan was to hook the two 200 Solar Saga panels. the 100 solar saga panel, and the 180 watt on the camper up to charge the 2000 pro faster. I was planning on doing that so I could run the a/c and things in the camper a few times a week just to keep everything up and running. A lot of the times I dedicate the 500 Jackery to charging camera equipment and run the 12 volt things in the trailer as well. Thanks for the questions! =)

It would have been interesting to set a max temp for inside the camper to see how long the J2000 could run an AC properly. Like 75* - "It went from 106* to and stayed under 80* for 16 hours" In other words, it is silly to use all the energy to get a camper down to 60* when the battery would last much much longer with a ceiling of 78-79*

Usually it is fine unless solar is interrupted (heavy clouds or night time) or it reaches 100% charged. Once it is fully charge for any length of time the mppt charger will shut off and you will have to unplug and plug back in... It sucks for sure...

I still have my Bluetti solar generator that I also payed over two grand for and was powering my 5000 btu in my camper truck for almost 5 hours that I bought a year ago before the Texas power outage hit. No offense but sounds like Jackery is a bit behind. I currently still live off grid and it powers my 5500 lumens light, 70 inch TV, radio, router and hair trimmers. And charges my power tools when the batteries are low.

Once you restart the solar charge dodges it still shut off or will it stay on charging.

Usually it will continue to charge as long as there is not an interruption of sunlight. If there is it's seems to be 50/50 if it continues as it should.

I have the 2000 Pro. I have charged it with solar without issue but not while also using the AC Inverter. I guess that is required to test this out ?

Honestly I am not sure, I almost exclusively use the 2000pro with the inverter.

@@myokielife If the sun ever shines for a decent amount of time here in Georgia I will check this out. One thing I had an issue very intermittent early on with a BMS error message. Jackery suggest I reboot the device and since that time no issues. Maybe you try a reboot?

@@oldmaninthemirror The only other issue I have had is the unit temperature getting too high and it shutting off. We have been steadily in 100 plus temperatures for weeks here and if the camper is closed up when it is charging off solar it tends to shut down quite often.

Hasn't gotten a ton of use yet, but the build quality is solid and it charges fine via the Rockpals solar panel I purchased to pair with it. One thing to note is that the screen is optimized for a top down viewing angle, which makes sense, but this means it washes out at other angles - especially low angles. Not a huge deal, but perhaps a better option for the display could be used to provide wider viewing angles.

That test may not work for Florida because the high humidity you need to be in the shade and have a fan "on" all the time to move circulate the air around ..The Best friend of Solar Generator is Generator like the Honda 1000w for half of a gallon you can go for over 6 to 8 hrs.. After the jackery is drained to 0% how long will take to recharge it back to 100%?

We were 70-80% at the time of the test so it was fairly humid. Recharging time depends on how you are charging it. I can charge it in about an hour and half plugging it in to the Predator 3500 generator with the a/c running off the generator at the same time. With the solar panels it depends on how many and the sun.

@@myokielife Florida doesn't work for day time your system is too much heat/humidity...I have friends they did that..the only cool you will feel is right in front of the ac vent..this is the tropical..that is why you don't see many RVs soon or later the move out state...bring your trailer to Florida and do what you saying..

@@arriagada1957 I have family who live in Florida. We camp just fine down there with it summer or winter. We use a dehumidifier and keep the ac on recirculation and NOT fresh air....You also have to remember this is a 4x8 camper.. Not much air volume in there....
