Stearns made a point of saying the Mets are going to be active in the trade market......i have little doubt that thet are planning to get a front line starter through a trade rather than free agency. @@gaurilla Possibly.....I just feel they make good trade partners..... Mets have young talent they are looking for and they have arms that would upgrade our pitching. Maybe I'm wrong and it's not Seattle they make the big trade with but I do believe they will make a big trade for a front end starter. Stearns has plenty of talent that will be blocked positionally because of who is taking that position at the MLB level. At some point talent becomes wasted if you don't move on from it. If this is accurate, I can’t help but think it is a dangerous game re: Soto. If Stearns is pursuing the strategy of not going after big-name pitching - and even if it is a good “on paper” strategy in-and-of itself - is it possible that it makes Soto question the team’s commitment to “go for it?” I don’t know, obviously… but I wonder.

The QO is the only reason we’re out on Burnes. Soto has one, and we don’t want the penalties of signing 2 QO guys. We went further this year with a rotation of #2/#3’s than we did with the double ace setup. Sign Manaea and trade for Castillo. Holmes then becomes the 6 and gets swapped with Megill or Butto if it doesn’t go well.

If your goal is the playoffs then hey, can't argue with results, Sterns will definitely put something together to give us a real shot. Listen if we have the money we should spend it. One solid long term ace should not be off the table. Dodgers went all in and won, we should do the same. I love manaea and I’m all for bringing him back as a number two but we also NEED a top dog to be top contenders. I just don’t trust kodai being our number one guy, he was originally signed to be our 3 guy he should remain that. DP our number 4 and montas our number 5 we need an ace. Spend the money one long term contract is not gonna hurt anyone. Why would Juan Soto want to come here if we don’t improve the rotation? And what’s the point of bringing in Soto if we don’t bring Pete back? We need to spend daddy’s money this year

Fans really get to emotional thinking Stearns isn’t going to get an Ace the reports said they werent checking in on Burnes or Fried there is nothing against trades which I’ve said all off-season Stearns will look to add a Ace via trade and the 2 guys that popped up in my head were Garett Crochet or Luis Castillo. IMO Castillo is the perfect Stearns guy and allows the ability to trade a McNeil or Marte to Seattle since they need bats at both positions. What I see as the rotation is Castillo, Manaea, Senga, Peterson & Montas can flip flop between 4/5 starter. I do think Stearns is going to a 6 man rotation hence why you keep hearing they are connected to “reclamation projects” or Clay Holmes types to use that 6th starter to eat innings and give guys an extra days rest in the regular season and come postseason you can have for example a Peterson and Holmes to pitch out of the bullpen to give you 2-3 innings while not having to tax your bullpen.

those go-to top pitching prospects have three considerations; Will they be ready immediately? Will they stay healthy, can we keep them from other teams? That verses more bats with patience and contact power to keep up with the Dodgers

Good morning Ryan-I wouldn’t mind signing Bueller because it appears he’s learned how to pitch and he’s just not a fast ball throwing 🔥 thrower I would still try to make a package to obtain crochet from the White Sox. Adding crochet and Bueller along with Montes is a good starting pitching core. By using reclamation projects, the Mets are buying time for their young prospects to develop - therefore more team control.

Even if every reclamation project works out, we will not have half the starting roation the Dodgers do. They eliminated us in large large thanks to our pitching, NOT having a true ace. Senga blew game one, Seriveno blew game three, and we had no starter for game 4. If we had, say, a blake snell, he wins game one and game 5 and he goes on to play the extremely unprepared Yankees. Penny pinching hurt us gravely last year. If we had a true ace and ge got even 2 more wins then the hodge podge of starting pitchers we had in the first half if the season, we dont even need the last day double header. This is a terrible idea. It will NEVER win a world series. Not in a world where a team has snell, Ohtani, Yamamoto, glasnow, and Kirshaw.
