That is true, but economy is meaningless. It is assumed by laymen to be an indicative of production capacity but it is not the case. Case in point, despite US economy nominally improving massively, its industry has been declining. From being the seat of 40% of global industrial capacity and manufacturing, nowadays USA barely represents 20%, if even that. Steel production has been slashed by 90%, automotive and other industries have been offshored and other issues of the sort. The military technology has improved, but in matters of real economics, USA has declined since WW2

For those who don't know - the victory of a country under AI control is almost completely independent of industry, technology, etc. The country that has better army division templates will win. And these countries are: Germany, USA, UK, USSR and Japan. in 95% of cases Germany under AI control will win in any situation, even if it will be fragmented from the start of the game. Second, third place - USA and UK. Fourth place - USSR. Fifth place - Japan. No matter how terrible these countries are in, they will almost 100% win any game. If Afghanistan had better army templates from the start of the game, most games would end with his victory. So you can predict who will win a war in any given scenario just by seeing the composition of the countries involved.
