It’s definitely not for me , I’m not the audience. But I think it looks damn cool . I think it eventually will offer $180 worth of fun at some point . It’s so early in the systems life it’s hard to say . I’d like to see a home console version of Playdate (Homedate?) that uses an rf switch and is designed to play on CRTs .

So I did already pre-order mine already, I am a very niche person and I loved the look and idea of this thing the minute I seen it. Someone probably already mentioned this, but just in case I’m gonna mention it. This device and pico-8 should be involved some how. They need to find each other and make sweet love.
@KittyPittyMeowmeow2 жыл бұрын
Definitely a "hipster" device, not for me. A person buying this would be paying for some clever games but mostly mediocre ones in Season 1, and then it's up to the community to develop onwards. But if this doesn't take off, then in a year, I just don't see great game developers choosing to spend their time making a game on a platform that barely anyone uses.

Yeah very odd and targeted towards a specific group of people. We'll see how well it does in 12 weeks after the season completes

In October 2022, what’s the pick between an analogue pocket, switchlite & this PlayDate? Which is making the most sense?

Right now I use my Pocket so much more especially since the openfpga cores are trickling out. I haven't used my Playdate in a bit.

@@SuperNicktendo ah I see. You didn’t get all 24 of the season 1 games and the ones from the community too? Don’t have the flex of picking both the Analogue pocket & the PlayDate, so have to make a succinct choice for a tiny handheld I can flip at the back of my backpack and delve into once I have some breather away from my laptop.
@SuperNicktendo2 жыл бұрын
@@1anre I got all the games. It's just I can't balance my attention between all my devices so I'll drop one to focus on the other. Like right now I'm playing my DS Lite because I got some new games for it. Doesn't mean the Playdate is bad or anything, it's just not a priority atm.

We'll know in a bout 3 months once the first season comes to a close. Right now it's a little quirky and exciting to see new games (I have 8 games right now). It'll be curious to see how many people hang on to their units or try to just cash out to impatient people.

This concept for console is great, but not for this price. I also checked "10 best games for Playdate" on KZbin... Tetris, port of first Mario (which was very buggy), some dice game - really? If these are the "best" games for this console, then sorry, but no. Of course, Mario and Tetris are good games, but I can play it anywhere. But even if it would have amazing games, this price is way too high. I can buy used PS4 in great condition in this price.

Yeah it's odd. Perhaps they couldn't get a solution that could exist where you could turn it off and still have the same sharpness. The screen is right behind the glass so any light source underneath might diminish the effect.

@@SuperNicktendo you need to give a straight answer to the question you made in the title pic, that's the reason I clicked, after watching the video i can say that PERHAPS what you trying to say is, Is it worth it? As of right now is not due to the very limited library AND uncertainty of the consoles future, BUT if the console gets a decent library both in number and quality it will be worth the price eventually, i could not get a straight answer from you unless my English is failing me. You have a much much better diction and quality than RGT85 who cannot have a higher level than subpart, and you actually give a lot of interesting info and the video is entertaining.

@@alan2514 I get what you're saying. My reviews for the most part attempt to lay everything out in an objective way and let the viewer decide if it's worth it for them. I bought this with my own money and right now I like it. But I get why people might think that it's too expensive for what it is. I don't feel comfortable at this point to definitively tell people, yes, go buy it or, no, don't. Especially when the entire season isn't out yet and developers are still getting their units shipped.
