I'm still using the Red devil rx 6950 xt and I have no issues playing games 4k its a solid card and its actually surprised me how well it keeps up with the newer cards I would recommend it to anyone for 4k gaming cause the price now is really unbeatable.

@@adrianogil 4K GPUs are expensive. There is no way around that. They're large and cost a lot to manufacture. The die is also large, and they end up more defect rates which means hopefully they can be used in a lesser GPU but that's not always the case. I've found the 6950 XT, which is a GOOD step up from the 6900 XT for $580 in the US and that's a great deal. The 1080 Ti had an MSRP of $700. I mean the 6700 XT gives the 1080 Ti a beatdown. To throw in a console vs. PC gaming is laughable. The PS5 and newer Xbox aren't bad but the 6950 XT is a serious GPU that butt stomps on consoles. But for deals, AMD's entire lineup is at historical low pricing for the performance they give, understanding that the higher you move up in tier the value proposition degrades, but once again they've expensive to manufacture so 4K gaming is certainly not the same value at 1080p or 2K gaming. Shockingly even Nvidia's 4060 is at a really good price, but AMD's GPUs pricing is still a little better at the low end. RDNA 2 is as good as it gets for pricing at least in the US. It's not only the best deals now but it's the best pricing EVER for their level of performance. Once again 4K gaming is more expensive, and 2K gaming is more expensive than 1080p gaming. It's the nature of gaming and the cost to make the GPUs along with needing a faster system in general and a more high end CPU to run the best GPUs.

4K is a LOT of pixels if going full native rendering. And diminishing returns is hitting hard above 1440p. A bit of FSR definitely will keep the 6900XT and 6950XT okay for 4K for a while with almost no visual degradation. Even so, I’ve moved my 6900XT to a 1440p monitor and have a 7900XTX for the 4K now. I’m damn happy with both systems.

Right you get 3080 ti performance for way less money and like you said this card totally caught Nvidia of guard but I mod games heavily and that 16gig of Vram lets me have freedom with how many mods i can have so to me the card is really the only go to choice for serious gamers when it was released and its still very relevant today in that regard.

We cant be real as the architextures are completely different... the 7900xt performs better overall, muxh better in some games, much better RT wise (in non nvidia games) ans consumes less power (the power you see on the 6950xt is gpu core only). Thanks for watching!

It's about 10-15% better in MOST games, though about the same with dying light 2 and Forza Horizon 5. RT performance is only up at best 5 fps in any RT game

The thing with resolutions is that it depends a lot on what people play and expect, i have a friend that plays 4k with a 3060 and it's more than happy with it since all the games he cares about run pretty well, same as before the 4090, the 3090ti/6950xt were considered the 4k powerhouses, and still are since even if the 4090 is 4k 120fps on new stuff, these are still at a minimum stable 60. The new cards will run better, but these will still run pretty good

You can always notice in any game, being FSR or DLSS, but in most of them, the quality difference will be VERY little, almost unnoticeable if you're upscaling to 4K@@HappyDude1

6950 XT is very well priced right now, if you don’t care about RT this is the GPU to buy for 4K raster. FSR looks really great at 4K so it helps the card age better imo

I found a $360 MSI Gaming X Trio 6950XT for $360 last April. Runs perfect no issues and paired with a Seasonic Prime Gold 850watt, 7800X3D,32tg CL30 6000MT, X670. Just bought two 6800XT this last month for $300 each and those are running well. My 6600XT's that got pushed out for sale aren't moving very quick.

But these BS inflated prices are still too much and I'd at least wanna jump up two generations for 1440p gaming. People should hold back this year with even buying previous Gen. The 6950XT is still a beast or a rasterization card. Plenty of ram, only issue being subpar RT performance. It's more or less a 1440P RT card. Before I purchased the 7900XT, the 6950XT was my 2nd top card followed by the 3800 TI. The 7900XT was about 11% faster at that time for $50 more at the time of purchase.

@@UKKNGaming not really, that's only valid for rtx remix games, the main reason amd can get close results it's because the rays generated are a lot less in most games, that's the point of rt cores and ray accelerators, they don't generate rays, those are still FP32, the hardware is just high precision and filtering to avoid the performance loss as much as possible, nvidia still has an edge on that, on pure ray generation they are pretty close if not the same, it's that piece of hardware that makes the difference on how much performance loss they will have.

@@UKKNGaming It would say it depends on the title. RE Engine and Far Cry Dunia engine seems to love AMD RT implementation. On the flipside, Hitman RT is slow on AMD, Control RT performance is ok on AMD. Metro EXodus AMD has good RT performance, not great, slower than Nvidia at similar price on RDNA 3 cards. AMD has really good RT performance in Callisto Protocol and Spider Man Remastered. Ratchet and Clank had good RT performance, well at least on my 7900XT card. Cyber Punk RT performance is horrible on AMD. Alan Wake, like Control has decent RT on my 7900XT. I can do 1800P FSR quality with reflections on at 60 indoors, about 50 out. Turning on transparent reflections and indirect lightening to medium, I would have to drop the resolution down to 1536P with FSR set to quality. Marvel Gaurdians of the Galaxy has solid RT performance, I can get away with high at 1800P, but not with transparent RT. So yeah, it depends on the game, but in general, my 7900XT has the RT performance as the RTX 3080-3080 TI or the RTX 4070 non TI.

@@ishiddddd4783 right but the Ray count can be changed it doesn't always have to be so high. If they had more options to tune how many rays are traced this wouldn't be an issue. Ie cyberpunk Ray count can be lowered with minimal to no RT loss in fidelity. Just seems like a ploy to sell more cards tbh. The optimizations for that game have been horrendous and still are so much so that CDPR is switching to UE5 and abounding the engine they're using in cyberpunk. Seems like a big development failure to me. At this point it's a glorified tech demo. 2080TI was supposed to play CP at its highest fidelity why did they showcase it every single time an RTX card came out?

@@UKKNGaming Because the game got big updates, you can still play it with the settings it got originally released, just no path tracing or psycho rt with the 2080ti. That's the thing if you want the best quality reflections and rt ambience, sure tunning would be nice, but at that nvidia will still be perfoming better with higher settings, and path tracing i wouldn't bother with amd, it's runnable at 1440p with fsrQ, but the artifacts and visual glitches are still too much to bother. Again, tunning would be nice, but it still shows nvidias edge in that area, especially when even intel gpus on the same price range perform better than amds

I had the 7900 XTX but returned it and got the 6950 XT, could not justify paying 71 % more (with Black friday discounts) for the 7900 XTX when it just performs around 35 % better in all the games i play on max settings at 4K (Starfield, Cyberpunk with RT, Red dead redemption 2). With that said, the 7900 XTX runs abit cooler and consumes abit less power than the 6950 XT Some benchmarks: Red dead redemption 2 @ 4k max settings + FSR 2 Quality - 7900 XTX 108.89 FPS / 6950 XT 80.47 FPS Starfield @ 4k max settings + FSR 2 Quality - 7900 XTX 102 FPS / 6950 XT 76 FPS Cyberpunk @ 4k max settings + RT Ultra + FSR Auto - 7900 XTX 57,66 FPS / 6950 XT - 42,35 FPS

First of all thank you for the content you put out. I enjoy it. I have a very similar rig to yours(7900X,650E Taichi, RX6950XT OCF. Only difference is I put a water block on mine. This allows me to push the card to 2900mhz core and 2410mhz mem. with MPT. Runs in games @2850-2875 core and 2400 mem. On avg I see about 5-10% more FPS depending on the title. COD-WZ(105avg.76-1%) RDR2(74avg.65-1%) Card still has life left in it @ 4k for at least 2yrs with FSR on heavier titles.

The 6950 XT is still impressive in 2023. I had a 6900 XT watercooled, 500 W power limit, overclocked to 2800/2150 Mhz and it was a beast. I replaced it with a 7900 XTX, watercooled too and now, many games are at 120 fps 4k. In the high-end a 6950 XT at 600 € is the best choice nowadays.

With this card im not interested for rx 7000 series/rx 4000 series. Im gonna wait and see if the rx 8000 series and rtx 5000 worth it before i upgrade again. edit im playing at 1440p (180hz IPS)

I have the power color red devil version. Haven't done any underclocking or changed any of fan curve settings and sometimes under full load my hot spot temps jacks up to around 90-95c and I start to get nervous so I cap my FPS. It weird tho my regular GPU temps seem to always be fine but the junction sometimes really hot.

So I have this card. Your case matters a lot. I had a Sharkoon Night Shark with crap airflow and upgraded to a Phanteks G500A decked out with Arctic P14 fans (to match my Liquid Freezer AIO). It goes to about 70c with 85c hotspot max now in very demanding games, without undervolting. Usually it's more around 60c and 70c hotspot. Also TURN UP THE FANS. The stock fan profile is braindead.

Hello,Why are my fps in Requiem and Dead Space significantly lower than in the video? Is it because of the difference in CPU? My CPU is Ryzen 5600, but this is 4k resolution, so the requirements on the CPU should not be high, right?

Yeap, Plague tale is most likely due to a different part in the test, in Dead Space it is definitely the CPU and ram difference. Resolution matters exactly ZERO for CPU bottleneck. What actually matters is FPS output, and dead space is heavy on the CPU side

Very cool video Desodre reminds me a lot of the Portal series of games , High on Life never heard of that one, but seeing how Argyle from Stranger Things Season 04 could really fit in to that world haha, Cannabis 24/7 man whaa zaa lmao But hey man the Navi 21XTXK which the RX 6950 XT uses really isn't that old the Navi 21 is from 2021 and I believe that the Navi 21XTXK came out in Q1 of 2022, so it should be more than average in most games which it clearly is as your video does show, although 2560x1440p is still the best reso for all Navi 21 based cards. But it is nice that some games still fly well on 4K with this card type as being the 6950 XT, the 6900 XT & 6800 XT should do fine as well with some decent fine tuning. As for my Sapphire Nitro+ RX 6800 XT SE, yea well that has been RMA'ed after 6.5 months of use black screens, artifacting, as well as strange flashes when in games and on desktop and video play back would be like 1 fps, my RMA was accepted so it's back to using my 6 year and 9 months old Nitro+ RX Vega 64, it will be about 4 to 8 weeks before I get a replacement, repaired card, anew one or cash back. @@AncientGameplays Yeah we're going to agree to disagree on that point because it's not about the cores. If it were simply 6 vs. 8 Zen 4 cores, sure, but it's about the extra cache which means the main game thread at many times doesn't have to wait for data to get pulled from RAM again, as in the same data it's already used but pushed out because of just how MUCH data moves to the cores during gaming especially with these newer titles. But it also means you have to PLAY the game, not just run through areas and don't interact with objects in the game. Hey, do a scaling video if you want to debate it. Use that 6950 XT at 1080p, 2K and 4K paired with the 7600X, 7900X and the 7800X3D. It would make a great video. Hardware Unboxed makes videos just like that and it does them well. Give it a try, put it in a video and then we'll talk about it.

My friend, I can do a video, but there's nothing to debate. If we were talking about 1080P or 1440P with this card pushing over 100FPS, I would say you were correct. At 4K, with low FPS numbers, there's virtually no difference as the CPU will never be the bottlneck unless you're playing games like city skylines, IPC matters nothing if the game is not requiring more than you have with the GPU you have, the same goes for RAM. I've tested this so extensively that I can state for sure what I'm saying@@johndoh5182

I think this card performs best at 1440P. On a monitor, this resolution appears sharp. in combination with high fps, is why this feels the best to me :D

I think the 6950 XT will handle 1440 maxed easy for many years (not 4k) but even some titles 4k. Yeah at the end of its life you'll need to turn down a few things but with FSR and such I don't think the 6950 XT will need to be replaced for a long long time. I've thought about buying the 7900 Xtx a few times now but when I turn on my 6950 xt and game I think (why)? because it's giving me what I need in all the games I play

Hey, I have a question about overclocking and maybe you can help me. I have overclocked my card to the following specs: 2450 / 2750 clock frequency, 2362 memory frequency at 1175 mv. I run several time spy runs and get 23800 graphic score. But now there is something that left me with a question. If I set the min frequency from 2450 to the standard 500 mhz, I get nearly 24000 points and a higher average clock. So what is wrong and what should I do? Should I left the min frequency at 2450 or set it to 500 mhz? The reason I ask is because I heard that the min frequency will help with stuttering. But if I get less score, there is maybe something unstable?

What I forgot to say is that also the cpu score is better, when setting the min frequency to 500 mhz.

Because sometimes the card can get power restricted, and forcing a minimum clock is not advisable there, only for cpu depend games if your cpu cant handle them well

@@AncientGameplays Did you also said that in your oc guide? Because I saw a video from Jayztwocents where he also had problems with the minimum clock losing performance. Some other people on reddit for example also said to not touch the min clock because some chips don't like it. Unfortunately I made the same experience. So I think I will set it to default then or make different profiles for each game.

@@Th3_Dark_Side because things changed over time with newer drivers. Min clocks raised are good in cpu bound scenarios to ensure the gpu doesn't drop much because of thst further reducing performance, besides that, keep the min frequency at 500MHz

@@AncientGameplays Yes, I learned things with the drivers when overclocking. Now with the latest driver it overclocks better than before. With the older driver I could not even touch the vram clocks without crashing. Now I can overclock the vram and also lower the voltage. Guys with this card can skip current generation like nothing... Great 60 fps experience, expect few games, but FSR Quality will wfix this. btw ryzen 7 7800X3D is now on sale, check it out

Was upgrading from my i7 6900K in October to November bought a Ryzen 9 5950XT as wanted something good for gaming but also photo and video editing I was on a 3070Ti and had that for roughly 1 year just a bit over retail but really worried about only 8GB vram so decided to change and bought a used 6959XT with a 2 year warranty for about 300 plus my 3070TI never looked back great card. this will last me quite a number of years so next will probably be a Radeon 10 series maybe even an 11 series so 3 maybe 4 generations to go. can run most games in 4K at 60fps and above but what really is wrong with 1440 ? best resolution for my sim racing anyway.

in raster and at higher resolutions the 6950XT is a tad faster, but the 7800XT consumes less power and I believe it will get better with newer titles

I have a question. It feels like I am the only one on the planet experiencing this with my build. Freshly build PC. R5 7600 + Asrock B650m Pro RS + Corsaire Vengeance 6000 CL30 + Sapphire 7800XT. When I install Adrenalin Software with the drivers I get frequent stutter in games and videoplayback like the Netflix app or Prime App. It makes games that are even 5 years old unplayable. I can limit the FPS to 30 and I will still experiencing FPS drops and framtime spikes with stutter. Without adrenalin it is fine, but I would like to use some features the software includes. There must be some kind of software conflict. I used DDU at least 15 times an reinstalled the drivers and it does not help. GPUZ shows huge dips in GPU utilisation when the stutter or lag occures. Can anybody please help me? It is driving me crazy for more then 2 weeks so far.

I love my RX6950XT red devil. I did however need to do a repaste and the washer mod because the overheating and throttling was insane. I noticed I get a random horizontal white line flash every, maybe a a couple of times over hours of gameplay. Could this be a driver issue?

Nah, maybe a windoslws issue. Reinstalling wouldn't be a bad idea. Also, you had a defective card, you should have sent it back

@@AncientGameplays it seems to be a common issue with the red devil, they don't apply enough pressure on the die. RMA would have sent back the same card. Temperatures are great now since the washer mod, I get maximum 20*C difference between the GPU temp and the hotspot temp. Before it was 30+.
