I own a Spear LT and had to send the upper in to Sig for them to remove my muzzle device. In the notes that they sent back to me, it says, "replaced upper receiver." They had to turn on that thing so hard they must've warped it and had to give me a knew one. If you do get a Spear LT and can't remove the flash hider under a normal amount of torque, email Sig and have them do it for you because it's free, and if they mess something up they'll have to replace it.

The only issue I see there is why not just run an AK. Like, on Sig's part it's cool to develop it I guess even though they should have spent that time not needing multiple generations to make an acceptable rifle, but from the end user stand point an MCX still stands out as special. An AK with a red dot and white light are a lot less conspicuous than an expensive and rare rifle.

If anyone craps on the quick barrel change option for having to re-sight in, they should also remember that sig has sold full upper assembles for the MCX and will sell them for this too. So yes you can swap uppers to avoid re-sighting or use a more suitable optic too.
@longshot7590 Жыл бұрын
I have a ~ 6 inch barrel for 300 BLK and an 11.5 inch for 5.56. That's exactly how I set mine up. Why? Because the trajectories are so different and so are my optics choices. So I equip the "5.56 UPPER" with an optic(s) that covers 0-300+ yards and once its dialed in for my ammo choice I never have to worry about it getting out of zero (like it does when u do a barrel change). i know its $$ but if your going Sig get your wallet out and ante up. So depending on the mission (I'm stretching it here) I pick the correct caliber of UPPER and I can have full confidence I have not lost my baseline alignment. I have 2 choices for my suppressor (one is higher pressure rating - 5.56/.300 super/.300 sub) and the other is a lighter and shorter 300. In theory its "perfect". But you do have to keep the mags for 5.56 separate/distinctly marked from the 300 mags and make it as idiot proof as you can. I have no desire to add 1 pound more with the MW stock but I understand that it could help in some configs to balance things out
@ALovelyBunchOfDragonballz Жыл бұрын
I never got the idea of quick change barrels on guns that have unserialized uppers. I have multiple AR uppers, I would also have multiple MCX uppers. The SCAR gets a pass, maybe, but it's a SCAR so it sort of lives in a state mediocrity.
@asymsolutions Жыл бұрын
@acdrz125 it does from a military procurement. Everything is already in place to train around the zeroing issue, it costs less (allegedly) and instead of carrying around a full upper, that troop who's already carrying a lot of weight is only carrying a barrel. But for the average civilian who probably isn't going to be landnaving for miles with a 40lb rucksack, large lvl 4 plates 2-300+ rounds of ammo and other gear, a full upper just makes a lot more sense.

It’s called the “LT” because it’s the 5.56 version of the sig spear in 6.8. It the same idea as the scar L(5.56) vs scar H(7.62). Weight is not the primary reason it’s called “light.” (Although it IS lighter than the sig spear)

@Ring3R Жыл бұрын
I own one of these. I purchased the 16 inch variant and did a form-1 on it so I could run it with the 11.5 barrel/handguard combo. I've got ~1100 rounds of Frontier 5.56 75gr HPBT through it, most of that through the 16 inch. 100% agree with your assessment at the end. THIS is what the military should be adopting. The XM7/M5/whatever they're designating the Sig Spear is a great gun but it's like 12lbs with optic and suppressor. It would make excellent sense as a designated marksman rifle in a squad, and sharing ammo with the new replacement for the M249 makes a lot of sense. Great capability. But for the regular riflemen? The LT version is the way to go. I'm pretty sure SIG already built it to be capable of handling a "Fury" 80,000 PSI version of the 5.56, given the robust bolt lugs, replacable steel cartridge deflector and high/low gas settings. A 77gr OTM moving out at ~2900 FPS from an 11.5 barrel would dramatically improve on the current general-issue M4. The elephant in the room....is that the handguard STILL does not retain zero, despite the additional 2 screws. A hard knock from either side can easily shift it 3-4 MOA, which I verified on paper using back up irons. The same would apply to anyone running any of the various active aiming IR lasers out front. I've installed the Arisaka zero retention clamp on mine and I'd consider it adequate...on the 11.5 inch. But on the 16 inch civilian model, the handguard is long enough that the extra leverage it provides will still result in a shift of 1-2 MOA with a hard knock from the side. Future red-dot systems will incorporate DBAL-esque capabilities into the mount (I know there's a couple that already do) and that will eliminate this issue and dramatically decrease the front heaviness of these weapons when they're fully equipped. That said....as it stands...there's still enough zero shift in the handguards that passive aiming past 50m with this system is, IMO, a no-go (admittedly, that means it's fine for the vast majority of passive use..but not all.) I've tested it using the manufacturer specs for torque on the screws (both Sig's specs and Arisaka's for the clamp), and even tried going a bit higher in torque and it just doesn't retain zero as advertised. It's a lot better than the Virtus, but not 100%. Still....amazing gun. The extended upper receiver provides a stable mount for clip-on thermals, so I'm going to have a lot of fun with night coyote hunts in the 16-inch configuration once the fields are harvested, and the 11.5 suppresses great and gives me (left handed) so much less gas to the face. And....it's silly accurate for a combat rifle.

Regarding hand guard & shifting zero…isn’t the upper monolithic, so if lasers & other accessories are mounted at 12 o’clock, there shouldn’t be zero shift? Not that it’s ok if anything mounted anywhere else on the hand guard experiences zero shifts…asking for clarification. To be clear, I’m not an LT owner, just curious.
@Ring3R Жыл бұрын
@@methodsocratic only the first 8 or so inches are monolithic to the upper. The rest depends on the hand-guard. You'd have to mount your night vision unit well behind the muzzle to take advantage of that. Not sure that matters too much, because we're....really damn close to all of that functionality being in the optic, so the hand-guard doesn't matter...but...well, there it is.

@Jordan-nc3zy Жыл бұрын
Haven’t gotten far into the video but if they’re talking about barrel bending, it’s probably referring to the way you can “bend” the barrel with slight pressure due to the way the barrel and hand guard mate to the receiver. Basically misaligning the barrel and definitely losing zero until the barrel realigns itself during shooting

You can always change out the muzzle device … I threw a lantac dragon on my 9” .300bk spear LT, and it doubled as a suppressor host for a silencerco. Also, with .300bk burning the vast majority (if not all) of it’s powder within 9”, you can throw a ridiculously harsh brake (such as the dragon) on it, and because there’s not a bunch of unburnt powder coming out the end all at once like you normally see with short barrels, it’s nothing like the ear drum crushing concussive blast you expect from a strong brake, but you still get the excellent reduction in muzzle rise (lantac dragons are known to make some guns have “reverse muzzle rise,” where the gun starts to track down toward the ground in full auto)

Great Content. Give me a reason to come back to Utah, I’ll be the 1st one back…1st thoughts when I land (Syndicate watch on my left hand) it’s about time.

Glad to see Griffin getting some recognition. I’ve been running their Recce 5 suppressor for years, it’s been great.

I train with a buddy of mine who has owned Griffin cans for years and has always spoken highly of them. I bought one of their 300blk complete uppers and it’s really nice but has been finicky with different types of ammo. I’m definitely interested in my next can bring their can in this video. I own a couple SilencerCo cans but looking to get one of the flow cans for DI systems especially
@ALovelyBunchOfDragonballz Жыл бұрын
Their numbers are strange to me, and their cans don't really impress me, _BUT_ their cam-lok system for pistols suppressors seems god damn genius and I'll be getting the parts. Good news is my Wolfman won't have any booster parts so I won't feel bad about having unused pistons lying around.

Is the stock sturdy? Does it rattle/wobble? The Sig folding/collapsing stock was pretty rattly for me and I’m looking to switch it up.

What I don't like is that stock, if I can change it and get a Maxim Defense one PDW that would be great, and it will shorten up the rifle making it an excellent CQB.

@@1911syndicate yeah, and I get that. It's just that for me and I'm just speaking for me and experience a good short maneuverable rifle is what I'm looking for, a piston rifle with that stock for close combat, able to go around and cut corners and still be able to reach out and touch someone at up to 250 yards. What I call a quick engagement rifle, to clear buildings if need be or able to shoot out of a vehicle and have enough room to move in the vehicle, also I like that Eotech.

A year later, Sig released a "Ranch" version of this before they or anyone else made an SD handguard comparable to their Virtus handguards that tucked the best suppressors available (1.75 Outer diameter cans like the Hyperions, Nelsons or their own sig SRD762Ti-QD) Until they do I can't "upgrade". My Virtus uppers ride Radian ADAC lowers that dookie on the LTs and adds a true advantage/benefit for righties. The 12in and 16in Sig SD handguards are perfect for my 6.75in/Half-Nelson Truck gun and 9in/Hyperion DT Home defense gun. My ADAC rare Parker Mountain Tommy 3 position safety would swap into the LT, I'd have to buy a new Arisaka ZRC but it exists, so the 1.75+ ID handguard is the only thing keeping Sig from getting more of my money.

If a PSA Sabre had barrwl deviation people would absolutely shit on it. SIG A MILITARY CONTRACT DARLING has barrel deviation and it’s just a hiccup
@stevem4783 Жыл бұрын
Yup. Continually amazed how many people just let Sig off the hook, especially considering how hilariously overpriced majority of their lineup is.
@I_Finger_Triggers Жыл бұрын
It’s most likely not the barrel, but the handguard. I took it off and the barrel didn’t move, put the handguard back on but didn’t put the screws in and saw the handguard moving from side to side. Put the screws back in a torqued to 60 inch pounds and it didn’t move. My theory is, is that the screws aren’t properly torqued down.
@crashdsnowman110 ай бұрын
Some idiots think they are bending the barrel when in reality they are moving the handguard. Retorque the screws.
@sapperstyle579 ай бұрын
Mine was the handguard, not barrel. Tightened the handguard screws to spec. No problems.
@goawaybaizuo Жыл бұрын
I didn't really see much flash footage on the dual-lok. How was shooting it under nods? Were you getting a lot of autogating? Also, all you have to do to look up Sig's CEO early life on his wiki to understand why his company is hoovering up military contracts.

If you're wondering why the DOD didn't pick this over the larger variant, the most logical answer is, 'ARMY BRASS'. They rarely get it rightt.
