How are the tubeless tires going so far one year later. Are they still working great?
@RunBikeMike8 ай бұрын
@bazil4146 when I last rode this bike it was holding strong. But I sold it this last fall. With other bikes to review and build up I just couldn’t hang on to it.

I have seen other YT channels try the same thing with decent success. Several had to add a bit more sealant to help coat the interior of the non-tubeless tires, but eventually the tires sealed

I was super shocked at how only around 2oz per tire worked on this set up. I was gone for a week and came back and the tires each only lost 5psi.

i don't get what's the issue with schrader valve people are having. All the cars use schrader valves just fine...
@RunBikeMike2 жыл бұрын
Totally agree and with the low pressure there is no need for Presta.
@mrupholsteryman2 жыл бұрын
I never would have thought going tubeless (along with the goop that goes in) would be lighter than a tube with no goop. Unless the tube had the goop in it and was a thicker rubber... Thanks for the update!
@RunBikeMike2 жыл бұрын
It really is crazy how much weight regular tubes add to the tire rim setup. The nice thing about saving that weight is that it is the best place to save weight. Reducing the rolling weight is a great way to really feel small losses.

I literally just tried doing this with my Giordano…with exactly the same set up. My wheels held air for a bit but when I checked it using water, there was a ton of bubbles. I wonder if there’s a difference between wheels and such, most of the air escaping was coming from the seam where the rim meets together. I really want to go tubeless because I keep getting flats riding the trails I ride. Awesome series btw, so far I like this bike too.
@RunBikeMike2 жыл бұрын
Thanks I am glad you are enjoying it. As for the leaking at the rim where it joins up with the other side. I have seen that before. I would double check that the gorilla tape is down super well. Seated from edge to edge on the rim. Then reinstall the tire. Add more sealant and air it up. It might take time for the sealant to work it’s way around the rim. Eventually I bet it will seal. I was surprised at how lucky I got with my conversion. I literally left the bike in my garage for a week while I was gone and it still had air. Only lost like 5 psi. I have done tubeless on tubeless ready rims and tires that would lose air in a few hours after sealing them. It would sometimes take adding 3-4 more oz of sealant to get the leaks to stop.
@traigtrumbo6692 жыл бұрын
@@RunBikeMike What width Gorilla tape are you using. Buying the Stans goop and they also offer a rim tape. Is that 21 mm, 25, 29 or 32 for rim tape width? What is the width of the gorilla tape you are using? Have read elsewhere that often times you have to spin the wheel and work it up to two days to get a good seal. How much Stans did you put in each tire? Looks like exact same tire and rim as on the Trouvaille. A couple of guys have done it to their Trouvaille on the group. Is the Gorilla tape better than regular purpose rim tape? More adhesion?
@RunBikeMike2 жыл бұрын
@@traigtrumbo669 I used the 1 inch Gorilla Tape. It will seal much easier with Gorilla Tape. But can be messy when or if you ever remove it. I used about 2-2.5 oz of Stan’s in each tire.
@Manbeyond12 жыл бұрын
Leaking from the rim seam on a non tubless ready rim is common as it was not designed for this application. That being said, I have had good luck with one layer of tubless tape and then one layer of gorilla tape.
@downtoridemtb2 жыл бұрын
The only advantage I can think of with presta is the smaller drill hole meaning a stronger rim. But I agree entirely that the shrader functionality is so much better. I’ve also never understood why presta valves are so dang long. They would look better and save a few grams if they were shorter.
@danneubauer64742 жыл бұрын
Stans presta valves will work in a Schrader hole. I've done it 2-3 times already with zero issues.
@RunBikeMike2 жыл бұрын
That is really good to know. I was thinking if I run rim protectors I might have to switch to Presta.

@riccochet7042 жыл бұрын
I never understood why there was a switch to presta. Schrader valves have been used in high pressure applications for nearly a century. Your A/C condenser on your house has a high pressure side of 200-250 PSI. Guess what it uses. Schrader valves. Ordinary schrader valves. Personally, I think it was more about people feeling special about themselves and their bikes by using something different, rather than an actual needing to use something different.
@RunBikeMike2 жыл бұрын
I read that it had to do with rim widths more than pressure. I had heard pressure was the thing but that might not be true after all.

I did this and failed my first attempt but second attempt worked like a charm I hear no leaking air and the tires are holding air but after now 2 days they have lost a considerable amount of air (not flat) I haven’t rode it yet maybe that will help seal it more . Is it normal for the tires to lose air ? And how much psi is safe for tubeless ??? I want to put more air atleast 35-40 psi I’m a heavier guy and don’t like the dragging feeling that I get with lower psi tires
@RunBikeMike Жыл бұрын
Yes tubeless can lose air after a few days. Eventually the sealant will slow that down. I always air up before each ride. I normally run 23-24 psi. But if you want to run higher you should be fine with 35.
