@@dennispope8160 It is, in most locks. The actual lifting of pins is easy. When you get to hard locks, the hardest part becomes interpreting what you feel because the pins are designed to give you nearly no feedback or confusing feedback. I'd say, other than the termite being unrealistic, the handcuffs were as well. People are trained to put keyholes of handcuffs towards the body, instead of outwards, making picking near impossible because of the length of the chains which prohibits access. That and as LPL mentioned, most modern handcuffs have double locking mechanisms. By itself it really isn't that hard to pick, but does increase steps and length of the picking.

For the thermite test, you have to make a pocket / funnel to hold the thermite. I suggest using exhaust repair tape. It sucks for repairing exhaust, but does a decent job holding thermite in place!

For the thermite scenario, I probably would have used thermate instead of thermite (higher heat output and more violent reaction), and drilled a hole into the door on top the bolt, either burning through the bolt or the wood holding it in place. People interested in recipes let me know, happy to share my info.

Copper instead of aluminum, right?
@cuttlefishrampant5241
@cuttlefishrampant5241 3 жыл бұрын
@@vyor8837 Aluminum is used for iron thermite. If you calculate ΔG for both reactions (using copper instead of aluminum) you will find that for copper ΔG=353.1, meaning the process is non-spontaneous, whereas for aluminum ΔG=-840.1, meaning it *is* spontaneous. Copper is also more electronegative than iron, another reason why it wouldn't work as the reducing agent. You can use copper oxide as the fuel source, and its very violent, but reaches lower temperatures.

Probably would be more useful in an older lock with a more open keyway that you could actually pour the thermite into

It's pretty easy to get handcuff keys. Most males will be wearing trousers or jeans. Most of those have belt loops, and most of those have a single belt loop in the center at the back. There's various methods you can use to hide your key on the inside of that loop. And as most times you are cuffed with your hands behind your back the police make it too easy for you to grab that key from inside your belt loop and uncuff yourself. It might not lead to your freedom as you're probably sat in the back of the police van, but when you get to the station and they open the doors to see you sat there uncuffed the cops faces of amazement and confusion is priceless. It's even funnier if you uncuff your hands and then put the cuffs on your ankles. That confuses them even more. I've done both and around the ankles is a lot more funny because usually when the police arrest you on the street they cuff you and wait for a vehicle to come. So the driver never sees you until he lets you out so he's really confused as to why the other officer cuffed you by the ankles. What ever you choose to do just make sure to leave the key in the van otherwise they'll strip search you and that's when it's not funny anymore. Just tell them you found the key in the van on the floor. Our cops can have a bit of a laugh and they won't crush your windpipe with a knee

We once got locked inside our apartment. Similarly the bolt was in, and the lock refused to open, disassembled it and still couldn't get the bolt out. Ultimately had to take the hinges off and remove the door that way to remove the deadbolt.

One problem with the door lock melted by thermite experiment... If the housing melted off, wouldn't the mechanicals to unlock the bolt be exposed and you would just need to have something to twist that open?
